I am so proud of Diane she showed Laurie who's boss and I really really hope that brought him down, he doesn't deserve to be in Sally's place he deserves to be in prison behind bars for life, he has one twisted, warped and sly brain, which sadly makes him think he is strong, but he is wrong he is so wrong he is far from what he thinks he is... calling him a pig is a compliment

Well done Alex Fletcher and Kyle Pryor - not to mention Roanne Bardsley who wrote it all! Standing ovation to all 3, as well as director Patrick Harkins. Also the editor did a great job with these scenes, and in particular the most crucial one in the classroom. It wasn`t included here, but the chase from the bathroom to the balcony also was very well edited together. If only the 3 women have the sense to remain until the police get there, and Laurie`s DNA, fiber and fingerprints likely to be on Diane`s clothes, plus bruises to her arm where he held her, this will be seen as a clear cut case of self-defense, because of Laurie`s superior build, height and weight. Diane was in her full right to push him away, when he physically grabbed her after having chased her along the corridors. That he fell all the way down on the ground is off course unfortunate, but still his own fault for choosing to attack her there. One thing which was not addressed in this scene, though, is WHY Laurie feels this need to dominate women, be in control and feel himself to be powerful. There are many reasons, from he himself having been sexually abused by a woman in his defining years, to having a father who was abusive to women, who he simply copies the behavior of. Looking into everything we know about Laurie, though, he strikes me to be more like Ryan Knight. Desperate to appear to be straight - and both be seen as a family man and womanizer - because he himself knows, and is terrified of anyone finding out, the real truth. The women is just for show. Had he been comfortable and confident enough to choose, he would have preferred to be with men. That was why he chose to marry someone who dresses more like a sex bomb, than a mother - but who also has a young daughter Laurie probably hopes strangers will assume to be his when the little family is out and about. Why he, despite having both the physical appearance and charm to seduce women, should he really want to, prefers to scare them and make their skin crawl - so they will keep their distance, but he will appear like a randy womanizer. Where Ryan and Laurie part ways, though, is that where Ryan jumped into bed with any woman who would have him - just to keep convincing himself he was not gay, Laurie knows very well he is gay - but for some reason os terrified of admitting as much to the world, or live that way. Something is forcing him to maintain not only a straight facade, but to not engage in actual sexual contact with other men at all. Instead he goes after women who have men he likes, like he did when he harassed Sienna to get the attention of her boyfriend, Brody. Both the little wink Laurie gave Brody when telling him he would be looking after Sienna on the camping trip, the fact he wanted Sienna to bring Brody to the dinner which was meant to be work related, but which turned into a couples dinner, and not the least how much Laurie enjoyed the up close and personal confrontation with Brody when Brody wanted him to stop harassing Sienna, suggest Brody to be at the center of Laurie`s attention - not Sienna. Further indication of the latter is that Laurie didn`t continue to see Donna Marie after she proved to be too much of a push over, and let him have sex with her without objections - the total opposite of what Laurie wanted. For him to give up sex on tap when he still had not succeeded in getting sex from Sienna, suggest his motivation in going after Sienna was not of a sexual nature. At the same time as the fact he didn`t assault her more firmly, suggest his motivation was not mainly to feel powerful either. Which leaves us with control - and what possible need Laurie could have had to control women, at the same time as his behavior both repulsed them so much they didn`t want to be near him - but he at the same time was keen both to be seen as both a family man and a womanizer. Doesn`t leave much other options than he would have to be gay, but not wanting people to find out, as far as I can see? The interesting thing, though, is that if Laurie really had been gay (and a real person), should he through therapy be able to face up to his real self, that person would not have been the same person as the misogynist he is at present. He would be completely different. Cause the controlling and violent person Laurie is emulating now, is really just a suit of armor he uses to hide and shield his true self inside, and which forces him to play out certain stereotyped roles (father, husband, womanizer) he want people to see him as, cause he for some reason is terrified of the world knowing his true self. The true Laurie is not in control, but is being controlled by the roles he is trying to fill - or rather the stereotyped perceptions he has of those roles - in order to gain acceptance. The facts he is so worried of people finding out, the fact he has a very muscular body - but not any past in sports or outdoors activity or similar to explain it - suggest he likely has had negative reactions of a traumatic nature to his true gay self in his youth, and to both protect himself from that he has gained muscle mass sufficient to scare off any potential attackers, and also made the decision to hide his gay side forever. So this might be a controversial conclusion, but I honestly think it would be wrong to convict Laurie for any of the things he has done, since it to me seems so clear he was not his true self when he did them, but acted the way he thought he had to to prevent himself from some form of traumatic abuse, I think clearly can be read from his behavior he has suffered in decisive years. He did what he did because of what was done to him in his youth, and because he felt he needed to hide his true self from the world, for that not to happen to him again. The stereotypes he acted out and tried to personify is result of prejudices and misconceptions which has formed over centuries. Normally that in itself would not have been enough to free a perpetrator from responsibility of his actions, but with Laurie there is the additional factor he was not he his true self when he committed the crimes he committed. So is it justice to convict someone who never ever could have done what he did, now, when his mind at that time was so focused on one thing - and one thing only - not to be discovered to be gay, that he was incapable of both realizing the damage he inflicted, as well as had no control over his actions. They were controlled and dictated by what he perceived to be necessary to avoid suffering the same traumatic abuse as in his youth all over again. I will claim there to be solid reasons to suggest treatment and therapy - not prison, to be the best way to deal with Laurie. And that by doing so he would become both harmless to women and all other groups of people, as well as more happy and balanced himself - having learned to face and accept his true self, without the world around him collapsing as a consequence. Sending him to prison, on the other hand, is more likely to both make him more dangerous - both to his fellow prisoners inside (his inner fear of being exposed to be heightened, and therefore his need to set himself in respect physically or through sexual assaults would be grave), as well as to innocent women after he got out. More aggressive - not unlikely his violence and need for control would give him urges to kill, and maybe even torture his victims to follow after he was released. At which time he could have added men to the list of his possible targets? It would have depended on what had happened during his time behind bars. But if he had arrived in an environment where sexual assaults of other men where not unusual, he could have felt save enough to live out that side of himself. But in a way where he likely would have attempted to paint the men he raped as poor substitutes for women - and he therefore would have returned to his old pattern of assaulting and harassing women to camouflage his interest in men, as soon as he got out of prison again. But probably also would have continued to rape men, but more clandestine, so no one would know. To not leave any witnesses to spill his secret, after he got out he could well have started to kill the males he raped, or who became aware he was gay. The women would be different. Just like now he would most likely have continued to repulse them so much they kept their distance, while at the same time leaving the impression he was attracted to women.

This is such a powerful display of catharsis, and quite possibly one of the best executed scenes from a soap opera! Bravo writing team, director, tech crew, managers, performers, mixers, and editors, and to anyone else I forgot to mention. This clip is awesome! I look forward to watching the full episode.
