Everyone keeps saying they should have just let him die, but I'm actually so proud of Sinead for saving his life. It just proves that she's a million times better person than he is. Also how refreshing is it that characters in a soap actually did the right thing for once...like usually in soaps they would have let him die and gotten away before anyone could see them and then it would have all come out way later and there would have been so much drama and they would have gone to prison even though they're the victims and it would have been so frustrating to watch. I much much prefer it like this! I hate all the lies and deceit in soaps all the time, they really overdo it.

Like Sinead said she is better than Laurie so had to help. Really shocked at how much Diane wanted him gone.
@Tvjunkieful125 жыл бұрын
Hi again. I found a reply from you in my inbox. But for some reason I cannot get it to materialize when clicking on it. Have you erased the reply, or is there some kind of technical difficulty? The reply started like this: "As ever I like your ideas. Interesting twist that Laurie could indeed have gay tendencies. Perhaps his frustration that he knew he would not get Brody due to his trauma of abuse could" And that is where it stops. But I am dying to know how you would have continued, since I find your ideas very interesting, and I would add well thought through too. So if you still have the reply, could you please paste and post it again here (since then there seem to be some kind of a problem with my original post)? Other than that I share your shock over Diane, and I will add, Sienna`s reactions, actively trying to stop Sinead from attending to the unconscious Laurie. I also think Hollyoaks missed an opportunity to extend the storyline into also exploring why Laurie became the misogynist he is - or hopefully was - if it had been Mitchell`s mentor, Levi (Levy?), and not Sami who showed up at his hospital bed. But Laurie automatically assumed him to be a CPS prosecutor or senior police detective, and started mouthing off about Diane having had the hots for him since he first came, that it was not assault, but passion, and Levi - instead of correcting him by informing him of who he was, would just assume the role and questions of a detective/prosecutor. Sying things like: "But if it was passion, why would she run all the way to the balcony? The point of love play would be for you to catch her, wouldn`t it?" And: "If she secretly had lusted after you for months behind both her daughter and her husband`s back, the balcony of the school was not the most ideal place for a rendez vous , was it?" Ripping Laurie`s defense to pieces argument by argument. Until finally suggesting: "If I were you Laurie - I hope it is okay to call you Laurie? I feel I know you very well know after all you have said." Laurie nods and Levi continues: "If I were you Laurie, I would seriously contemplate if now your best option would not be to confess to everything, and hope for a kindhearted prosecutor and a ditto judge. And about the latter, ask yourself what the judge`s reaction would be to someone confessing, compared to someone who deny all guilt, but where in addition to footage of the actual attack and - because of the state of the victim`s clothes - attempted sexual assault, both that victim`s testimony, plus your wife`s and your former colleague`s - a colleague who has accused you of sexual harassment - would testify. In which of those two scenarios do you think you would be a free man sooner? Confessing, or chancing a trial?" Laurie thinks about it for a minute, than says: "What can you offer me for a full confession?" Levi shrugs his shoulders: "That is a question for a prosecutor. I`m just here to determine whether you are fit for transfer, and fit to stand trial - and you having a prepared defense already, I think the answer should be yes to both questions." Laurie: "You are not a prosecutor!?" I never said I was," Levi retorts. "You just assumed. Have to say though," he says when opening the door for the police officers waiting outside to learn if they can arrest Laurie, "you are a class act manipulator - you can even manipulate yourself!" But, off course, for that to materialize, Levi would have had to have been a psychologist. Had he been however, and he had discovered Laurie became a misogynist to cover up his true gay self, as I described in my original comment elsewhere on this page, both the process of getting Laurie to accept himself - and perhaps also Levi`s conviction, that since the Laurie who committed the acts was not the same Laurie as the one Laurie had become after therapy - it therefore would be wrong to prosecute and punish the new Laurie for what he had done when he was controlled by his fear, and not by his independently thinking mind. Both of those issues, a victim not wanting her rapist and abuser prosecuted and punished because she realized who he was then, and who he became after therapy, were two different types of people in every way. Plus the legal and psychological side of when a person should be held accountable for his/her actions, and when not, would have been new ground to break in soaps. And if done correctly, could have been an important issue to raise too. It could even be extended to the legal side, and Laurie was convicted, but didn`t have to serve the years he received - unless he committed another criminal offence. The latter option would have allowed the great Kyle Pryor to remain on the show. Plus, I also think having had that character suddenly become gay, would not only have provided great new avenues for storylines, but maybe also could help reduce ALL types of sexual harassment and other sexual offences, since such actions would be identified to more indicate sexually frustrated gay men dominated by fear, than the Casanovas and conquerors of women they want to be seen as.
@susanjewitt87835 жыл бұрын
@@Tvjunkieful12 Just have to say that Alex Fletcher has acted her socks off. Kyle has also been a particular revelation. There is so much to mention. A shame you missed my reply. As don't have my post shall give my impression. Laurie could have been so frustrated that Sienna had Brody that made him want to get back at Sienna. Diane' s deconstruction of who Laurie is will not be bettered in any soap. I know that she would want to get answers of how Finn could be so horrible. It was natural for her to go to prison to also get to understand Laurie. I was more shocked of her truly wanting Laurie dead. I feel Diane may have also been a victim of rape before. Her reaction was more than just wanting justice for her daughter. Have discussed this with another poster who thought that Diane had been a victim. It seem I am going to say that to have made more impact Laurie could have groomed Juliet and done the same to her. Juliet, for all her bravado would have created the perfect victim for a control freak as Laurie. Her crush on Darren would have meant she would never have been believed. It would have been the ultimate power trip for Laurie, having a safeguarding issue as Juliet is his pupil. Laurie going to the same prison as Finn would make for interesting scenes. Just a last thought. I think I like the redemption of Sienna. Even Nancy is forgiving and agreeing to be her mentor. Also the old Sienna would have killed Laurie in the hospital. Isn't it time we found out about what happened to Warren and Sienna's children?
@Tvjunkieful125 жыл бұрын
@@susanjewitt8783 My guess is that Warren and Sienna`s twins will return when they are about 16-17, so they can be played by one cast member each full time, and not having to use twins or triplets to share each part, plus a full set of nannies or tutors, depending on the age of the young cast, which the law requires. The less which is known about them in advance, the more freedom to create storylines for them in the future (say a cast member is bilingual, and Hollyoaks could use that to it`s full effect, by having the backstory be that Warren and the kids settled in a particular country after they were taken from the UK) Hollyoaks will have. In regard to Nancy forgiving and agreeing to mentor Sienna, I found that scene a little too soon, or too late. For Nancy to be over almost being both killed herself, and losing her two children, after the car the three of them were in went over the edge of a roof car park because Sienna had poisoned Nancy so she could take over Darren, feels a little too soon and easy. On the other hand Nancy has already cooperated with Sienna to con a confession out of Laurie (even though it was a weird plan, and more likely to have succeeded if one of the men (Darren, Kyle) had pretended to be impressed with Laurie, so Laurie with start boasting about his many "conquests."))? When it comes to Juliet I am afraid I must disagree with you. Laurie would not have done anything to jeopardize his career prospects. Even a rumor he was having an affair with a student could be his professional death, so no - I believe he would be very careful NOT to land himself in any situations which could be questioned. Also, as a student, Juliet would have been too much of a push over for Laurie to manipulate - and therefore less satisfying to dominate than Sienna was. But other than that. had Laurie been a sexual groomer, like Buster was, Juliet both would have been an easy target for him, and you are also absolutely right her crush on Darren Laurie could have used against her, should he need to distract negative attention from himself. He probably could have gotten Juliet to agree to lie and say that the affair had only been in her head. just like with Darren, if Laurie had wanted her to claim so? But as I have said before, there is too much with Laurie`s behavioral pattern which suggest him to more want to be seen and believed to be a ladies man, than for him to actually be one. So based on his behavior and actions, I think there is at least an 80% chance that a real life Laurie would have been gay - but desperate to conceal that fact. Had Laurie`s interest in the women been sexual, he would not have chosen such a diverse specter of women as he did with Sinead, Sienna, Donna Marie, Georgia etc, but the victims would have had similarities which had identified them as his type. Diane may, but it is not certain, have been a victim of a sexual violation at some point. Sexual violations are crimes of a nature most women find it easy to feel disgusted and angry about, even if they don`t have personal experiences of that kind themselves. But yes, she did a great job of seizing power and control from Laurie in that confrontation. In real life I doubt he would have gone after her at all after that - the fear of loosing to him yet again, or that she would dig even deeper inside him for explanations to his behavior and motivation, would have kept him away. Also agree with you both Alex Fletcher and Kyle Pryor who plays Diane and Laurie, plus the director Patrick Harkinson and Roanne Bardsley who wrote that scene and episode did a marvelous job! Not to forget the editor! All of them truly delivered on that scene. Even if I have to admit I wanted Diane dig deeper into the why, so we could get some sort of explanation to why and how Laurie had ended up being the manipulative narcissistic and sadistic power freak he was. Talking about Roanne Bardsley, she - together with director Tracey Rooney - won best episode for the Three daughters, Three mothers episode about self harming last year. And I am not 100% sure, so don`t kill me if this is wrong, but to me it looked like the paramedic in front when Laurie was brought into the hospital on a stretcher, was Tracey Rooney. Pity I couldn`t get the entire post to materialize itself yesterday night, cause I would have loved to hear your thoughts on the subject. Tonight`s episode was more disappointing, in my opinion. I don`t know what I found more strange. Levi first reading the riot act to both a drag act (Scott) and Mitchell and Cleo for taking him to an event at their local pub, or Levi, from just seeing someone on the street, both concluding him to be gay, and to decide to want to go out with him. Talk about forced storylining to bring developments to a wanted point, which in real life would have been very unlikely. Liam signing over the club to Lisa is another strange development. And as far as Mercedes` drug problem and marriage is concerned, I frankly couldn`t care less. But feel it to have taken the pace and suspense off the actual crime investigation and suspense of the hunt for the hit and run driver. Which in my opinion would be a far more interesting focus.
@susanjewitt87835 жыл бұрын
@@Tvjunkieful12 Thanks for giving a mention to the writers and producers. Amazing episode in the school with Diane and Laurie. Also the self harming story and the Three daughters, 3 Mothers episode was very powerful. I felt we needed to get more background on Laurie. Missing a family dynamic for him. I think your suggestion to have someone gotten his confidence and got him to confess was good. Nancy was a particularly wrong move for that. Ah yes the Mercedes story. How do you feel about Liam as a villain. Sorry but I am not feeling in any way scared of Liam. I find him annoying and not even has a great role in the show. I think Lisa blackmailing him is just so obvious and don't care. Wouldn't trust Hollyoaks police as nothing seems to be done about finding who injured Grace. I hope they get back to Maxine soon. It means that Mitchell and Levi get a half decent story in the show, which don't think they have at the minute.
@Tvjunkieful125 жыл бұрын
@@susanjewitt8783 As I have adressed in previous comments, I share your dissatisfaction withi the storylines and characters you mentioned. Liam is a character I feel to be all over the place. I would have believed the character more, had he still carried a grudge against Grace for having killed the love of his life, and their unborn baby. The big gangster act I find more comical, than believable. Especially the fact he seems able to call other drug dealers and somehow make them not wanting to sell to Mercedes. As if they should be scared of Liam, who seems more like a poser, than an actual threat to them. So in my opinion the character of Liam has derailed completely, and Hollyoaks has missed out on the opportunity to build up tension and suspense with a storyline where Liam pretended to have forgiven Grace, but where he was secretly plotting behind her back to get his revenge. With such an angle to the character and storyline, the hit and run of Grace could have been by cold blooded design, and not an accident. Liam both having made sure Grace would be there there and then, and also to create the diversion with the cocaine, so he could grab the wheel from Mercedes and pretend she was the one who ran down Grace. Using the fact there was cocaine in the car as an excuse to why they couldn't stop and check. Going after his own sister Liam would appear much more of threat, than he does now. Especially if Grace was in a wheelchair and Liam "looking after" her.
