I love the quote "all our omissions and commissions have consequences". And I love that the length of time it covers is enough to show the advances in medicine for this inner ear problem. And it matters so much that we enter sacred space with the patients, and how great a gift it is to have that supportive faith to help us face the real suffering in our mortal lives.

He said that when you begin writing, the characters start to speak to you, and you have to honor them. But this obviously is a subjective process. When I write the characters don't speak to me --- I am crafting them to fulfill a certain function or purpose, to make sure they complement or are distinct from other characters, and have a defined personality that I set up early on in order to ensure that it makes sense that they would take this or that action later. And this works very well.
