Diane, when you take off a jacket or cardigan to chat with us it reminds me of Mr. Rogers and how the show always started with him getting ready to talk to his friends in his home by changing his shoes and jacket. So cozy and welcoming :) Thinking back, he wore indoor shoes too!

As always, I’m renewed and refreshed by spending a bit of time with Diane! As I watched this video, I settled on two areas of weekly focus that I’m going to start today. One is that I’m going to set a day each week to focus on grooming and upkeep of myself; nails, hair, shoe and clothing care and repair. The other is that I’m going to make a list of friends whom I want to keep up with, and set one day each week to focus on reaching out to a particular friend. As a retiree, I need the structure to maintain these areas that used to seem to take care of themselves while I was working. Thank you, Diane!

After a year and several lapses due to moving house and health issues, I think I’ve finally got it!!! Morning and evening routines in place. They are the framework! Then WHB on Mondays and 15 minutes in the current zone Tuesday-Friday ( I leave Saturday and Sunday for family time). Daily focus tucked in there Tuesday through Friday with the flexibility to switch up what happens on which day. Why did it seem so complicated? I think it was factoring in the zones. But now it all makes sense!!! Thank you so much Diane!!

My control journal at this point is a piece of graph paper written with routines, whb, and daily focus and slipped inside large Ziploc bag. I just use a permanent marker (dry erase was self erasing) and I check things off during the day/week. It erases very easily with a cloth and dab of rubbing alcohol. I will eventually do something more permanent but I'm still tweeking this list and probably will be for awhile. I use the opposite side for reminders or ideas for antiprocrastination day and menu etc. Diane said use what I had. I did. And so far it's all I've needed. (I did use pink and orange and green markers to write my different lists to cheer it up and I check it off with my 'happy color', purple. lol). I tend to overplan and under do....so this is a big win for me lol.

I now think of the "daily focus" as a mindfulness practice. I know my life can't be controlled (😭) but it can be tended to and thoughtfully considered. The "plan" part of Tuesday's Plan & Play has become more and more valuable to me. Which reminds me - off to add to my list of things to consider on those days! Happy little Friday all 👋🎉

thank you Diane. And thanks for the link to the video about where you started. It's very encouraging and helpful because it is true that at times looking at your home, how clean, organized, and how easy it looks for you I forget that you did begin, at the beginning. I've tried the flylady system for short. Before and it is true that each step was, rewarding. Having the clothes picked out for the next day, leaving the kitchen in order, and I experienced that each thing led to another, naturally and easily. I kind of got into a groove and just found myself picking up things here and there or swish and swipe when I'm in the bathroom and it was satisfying and encouraging. Somewhere I dropped the ball I don't even remember now. I'm at a point of, Isurrender. I must have a disorganization gene or an ADHD brain or something but just to surrender and say OK, as you did in the introductory video, tell me what to do, stop thinking, and just do something. Including those baby steps but I have to say I hate shoes on in the house! I know you must hear that a lot but actually whenever I really want to clean I have to have shoes on! Always have. Thank you for your hospitality and sharing. 🙂

Diane, Thank you. We are retired. Always on the move, as we have two married children plus two grandchildren in CA. This routine really helps when we return home It’s hard when a couple is not on the same page when in retirement. It’s all good when one has their health. My favorite saying “ Its good to be home”☘️🌞

Hi Diane, I'm like some of your other followers. I just don't seem to "click with" and get into following the FL system. But happy to report since following you here and watching you I am making progress on many long needed projects around the house. The one daily thing I am doing which helps a lot is the skoosh, skoosh. I am also motivated to get off my bahookie more and spend a few minutes doing something, anything. It really helps overall. Once I get through this big declutter project I think I will finally be able to get into the FL system as my mind will be 'freed up" to focus on it. It might be backwards to what is recommended but need to do it the way it works for me. Thanks always for the motivation you provide to your followers.

Pretty blouse on you! The daily focus is energizing and keeps me company in managing my small household. Actually pleased I do not have any errands or appointments today on the way to the gym, but may stop and purchase that new doormat for the front door( useful and attractive with the fall pots of flowers). PS. Later I realized I did have to get gas, so stopped at Costco , purchases needed household items to last through the winter, and purchased my first Christmas gift for son back east. I also checked my holiday supplies again and need nothing, all will be used. Batteries, tape, ribbon, cards ( I rewatched Super Cruising through the holidays last night).

Have a wonderful day xxxxx Margaret

Dear Diane, thank you for your motivation and your tips. I follow you for quite a bit and try to integrate the Flylady methods into my life. I always wonder how you "manage" your children. My question is whether you also have routines with your children (homework, learning for tests or vocabulary). I often have the feeling that I spend a lot of time with it, and that afterwards I'm so exhausted that I would rather not do anything. Also disputes with my daughter (puperty) throw me completely off track. How do you deal with it? It would be nice if you could make a video about it.

Hi Erika! I often talk about how my family uses routines during my Q & A videos - here's a link to the playlist kzbin.info/aero/PLxIYCyTLBED9fh1uPZwhq68Lx3pEXuPRm Remember to keep the routines/your children's routines as simple as possible - so that they are helping you and not making you exhausted! it's been years I sometimes follow you, and you always say not to start a control journal, not to get a planner just pencil and paper will do. so when is the time to get organize and have some lists of routines and have an idea where we are at and going? I feel more scattered that way. your tips are great. but I see you have a control journal and a calendar. You can help us to make one.
