After a year of using the Dicapac WP-S10 for almost a year now for both professional and personal shoots (both video and photography projects), I decided to share my thoughts/experience using this underwater pack/waterproof pack with you in case it might help you out. :-)

I love this kind of review. Not the "I got this new thing and it's so cool and here's everything I like about it" kind of review, but the "I got this thing and I have been using it for a long time and here's what I like and here's what I dislike about it" kind. Thank you so much 😊

I've used one of these a few times, they are ok for spray, a few meters deep, etc. One trick that helps with smaller diameter lens is to use step-up rings to effectively give you that large ring at the end of the lens that will help keep the port centered. Because there is no dome port for this case, it really isn't that useful for split shots if the distortion of the water half will be a problem (dome ports help with that problem). Regarding the water spots on the plastic, your saliva is the solution. Spit on it, wipe your saliva around the whole plastic lens, let it dry.

Have you ever got a strange colour cast with it? Rainbowing effect almost? I had it every time I used it regardless of filters

I brought this case a few months ago. Have been testing it out in waves, with some good results. Downfalls with it that it's hard to submerge and using a smaller diameter lens (sigma 28-80), it does move around alot so as the front cap gets in shot. Have also used the built in flash for some underwater shots, works well but cannot put the flash down as it the case interferes with it. Bonus.. It does float well, especially when you loose it in a powerful wave., gets to shore before you do. Fun investment but don't use your expensive gear in it..just in case

Great review David. Good to hear feedback after thorough testing. Do you only have issues focussing underwater and have you managed to find a solution for it? Do you find water droplets on the pack's lens are problematic when shooting just above the water line or do you dry the lens before shooting above the water? (Based on the clip of you shooting a female model with her head just above water.)

Thanks for the compliment and also for watching. :-) I am really sorry for such a late reply, I remember writing the reply to your message in my note app but totally forgot to actually reply at the end... But regarding your question, I think that it really depends on the camera and on the water condition as well. The water where I usually take this case to (regardless of the camera I use), the water is always unclear that any camera will have trouble focusing.. But if you are in a much clearer water than the water I showed in the video, then any modern cameras (or cameras within the past 7-8 years or so) will be able to focus much better under water with this case. The droplets can become problematic but once you are used to using the pack, you will naturally know for how long you can keep it up before the droplets drys up... So after a little while of using it, it didn't really become a problem for me anymore... But I just thought that I might mention that in the video in case it can be important to some people who are thinking of using a pack like this. So if you shoot above or in the middle of the waterline, as if you have your timing correctly in your head, it too shouldn't be problematic. :-) Hope that helps. Sorry again for such a late reply. Thank you for watching, hope you have a great time and have fun shooting!:-)

Thanks for the review. Looks for for kyaking, if it falls in the water the floating will help retrieve it quickly.

Thanks for watching as well! :-) Regarding taking it for kayaking, I think it also really depends on the strength of the water current. If it drops, it also can float/flow away as fast as the current as well and also, if the lens is too small, it could be a little bit troublesome to operate the camera while kayaking at the same time in my opinion.. That being said, once you get used to how it works/operates, then you might come back with some really amazing results. :-) Hope that helps somewhat, thank you again very much for watching. Hope you have a great time and have fun shooting :-)

Thanks for the review! You have talked a bit about it, but what is the widest you can go within this underwaterhouse? Can you go to a 16mm lens and not have the vignetting of the lid? Or wil you definitely have some edges in frame on that end of the lens? Thanks!
@DavidCuhls
@DavidCuhls 2 жыл бұрын
In most cases I was able to use the lens at 16mm focal length. However, this also comes with a tiny bit of learning curve and some getting used to. This is because 16mm is really wide, so it is very easy to get the corners in as well if the camera/lens is not tilted in the perfect alignment with the circular part of the lid. I definitely got a lot of photos with part of the lid in the cornors after all of my shoots but they were generally only around 20 to 35 percent of the images. That being said, if the 'perfect' shot happen to be in those percentage, then it could cause you some trouble... So yeah, all in all I think it really depends on angle, which involve some getting used to/learning curves for sure. However, it also depends on the type of 16mm lens that you have as well. I hope that helps some what. Thank you very much again for watching, I hope you have a great time, stay safe and have fun shooting! :-)

Awesome review man. I just got asked to do a shoot where the model will be semi in the water, so I'm considering this as a safety net. Also I live in England and it rains 90% of the time here, so I'm thinking this would be gnarly to just have in my bag just in case haha
@DavidCuhls
@DavidCuhls 3 жыл бұрын
Haha, I know what you mean and I think that this would make a good safety net for your setup (if you choose the right size for your gear) and it’s also really affordable as well. :-) That being said, it will take some time to learn and get used to when using the case but once you master it, it’s a really nice tool to use. :-) Thank you very much for watching, it means a lot. Hope you have a nice time and have fun shooting :-)

Which setup size dicapac would i need for the canon R5 & RF 50 1.2?
@DavidCuhls
@DavidCuhls 2 жыл бұрын
I would personally still recommend the WP-S10 (the one that I am also using) because I am still comfortably able to fit my R with the RF 85mm 1.2 in there. The R5 and R6 is a few mm bigger than the R but those camera will definitely also fit really comfortably inside as well. :-) Furthermore, there is the adjustment pad at the bottom of the case that you can give more room inside the case if you want. :-) Hope that helps, thanks so much for watching! I wish you a great time, stay safe and have fun shooting! :-)

Thanks for sharing your review David - very helpful! I am struggling to find online whether this bag is for specific cameras or not - I have a Fuji X-T4 and have taken measurements and seems it should fit in the bag? But I see mostly Sony users using this bag - do you have any idea on this? :)
@DavidCuhls
@DavidCuhls Жыл бұрын
I would say maybe try the WP-S5 rather than the WP-S10 model because in my experience, it's really big for the x-t4 with native Fuji lenses... The WP-S5 is not really that much smaller but the lens compartment is quite a bit smaller which helps with controlling the lenses for Fuji cameras better. :-) Hope that helps. :-) Thank you very much for watching and I am glad that you found it helpful! If you have any more questions, feel free to ask me at anytime and I will do my best to answer. :-) Otherwise, I wish you a great time, stay safe and have fun shooting! :-)

Does it work with Battery Grip for EOS R or Canon 1dx ii?
@DavidCuhls
@DavidCuhls 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, there are actually several paddings at the bottom that you remove to fit the 1DX inside or the eos R with a battery grip inside ☺️☺️ That said, it will be a tight fit that you have to be a bit careful with which lens you will be mounting inside as well… so if it’s not an absolute must, it is best to use a camera without a battery grip~~ Hope that helps though, thank you so much for watching! :-) I wish you a great time, stay safe and have fun shooting! ☺️☺️
@pauloancarvalho
@pauloancarvalho 2 жыл бұрын
@@DavidCuhls thanks, that's what I needed to know, seems like to have a tight fit as my main camera is the 1dx ii but I also have the battery grip for the EOS R for extended battery life.

is it works for photography? it looks like not easy to reach the shutter?
@DavidCuhls
@DavidCuhls 2 жыл бұрын
Well, this whole video was pretty much referring to the photography side, so in my opinion it definitely works for photography. :-) There is actually a little glove for a finger that you can use to access the shutter button and that works perfectly for me. :-) I think the main concern would be, being able to see the screen proper as well as accessing the controls on the back as it can be a little bit troublesome.. But accessing the shutter button is perfectly fine. :-) Hope that helps a bit though~~ I thank you very much for watching, wish you a great time, stay safe and have fun shooting! :-)

Haha, it was already very tricky looking at the back LCD screen of my camera, so I didn’t try looking into the EVF of any of my cameras that I use in the case, sorry~~ 😅😅 That being said, if I tried, it would have been really difficult and shaky 😅😅
