I grew up watching Dick Clark in the 50's and 60's. I remember seeing a practical joke played on him..after a 1 hour interview they told him the camera man forget to put film in the camera so the interview would have to be done again....knowing he was a busy man I thought Clark was going to blow up and get angry but he just kind of laughed and said oh no! He didn't get upset. Dick Clark had some real class.

Dick Clark and American Bandstand was a big deal back then. I would imagine that they were all a little nervous. All the boys were so young. Brian was just being unassuming and shy about his leadership and musical genius just as he always has been. It's called being polite and courteous. And, yes, Brian was the biggest one...in height and talent! Dick Clark became hard to watch on New Year's eve after he had his stroke. Bless his heart, he tried to carry on anyway. I will miss him.

You have reason to be insecure when your father is an abusive asshole and your mother allows it to continue without consequence, as was the way of things in the 50’s. Murray was a grade A piece of shit as a human being and can be credited for every insecurity and downward spiral Brian went through. Brian’s money allowed for a very deep dive. But when you want approval from your father who constantly shits on you, you become a puddle of insecurity. You say you have reason to be insecure? There may be people who think you have no reason.

You are right. When The Fellows only made $1000.00 on Surfin that had to be divided amongst Six Fellows including Murry Wilson who was their Father & Manager. Al got so disgusted that he quit, David Marks replaced him and was in the Group when they signed to Capitol. Brian and his Father decided to bring Al back which made him very happy and David Marks quit. In the 1980's he Made $300.000 Per Year since he recorded on the First Album. For several Years Al was an Employee and not an actual group member.

You are absolutely right. David Marks was an original member of the Beach Boys. He was a neighbor of the Wilson's in Hawthorne and a friend of Carl Wilson. He left the band in 1963 and started his own group called David and the Marksmen. He eventually rejoined the Beach Boys in the late 1990's and has been touring & recording with them on-n-off ever since. A solid Musician in his own right.

+thenaturallyinsane1 The naturally insane 1, so you're criticizing me for referring to Mike Love as a Prick, then denouncing myself and others for using harsh words to describe him, while calling me an "asswipe" at the same time? It's just my humble opinion regarding Mr. Love, that's all. I'm sorry you feel this makes me an "asswipe" the naturally insane 1. I really hope I don't lose sleep over this now. Thanks for setting me straight the naturally insane 1.

Jonathan King What? Everyone gets writing credits for lyrics. Like Mike Love or not, if he helped cowrite songs, his name deserved to be alongside Wilson. This was the case with Lennon and McCartney.
@jonathanking8800
@jonathanking8800 7 жыл бұрын
No, literally no one demands writing credits for lyrics. Lennon and McCartney actually wrote the songs, not just the lyrics. In fact, many of their songs had some lyrics written by Harrison and he didn't get writing credits on those songs, nor should he.

same in South Africa, where the Beach Boys were as big as the Beatles. When I moved to the 'states in the 80s I couldn't believe how loud and obnoxious the Top40 stations were. I listened to UK-targeted Radio Luxembourg when I lived in Germany and it was but a slightly toned-down take on US radio, so I assumed the Brits too went for that sort of thing. I preferred the more sober, sedate nature of Radio Good Hope, Springbok and 5FM...
