Dickie V gave me a signed ball and books etc via Facebook few years after this speech. I told him how much this speech meant to me. it inspired me. he then gave this gift to me. good man Dicky V is.
@mrvintage872111 жыл бұрын
Really? The Hall of Fame speech is the inductee's moment. Most of the time they spend it just bragging about themselves and their achievements. Instead of doing this, Vitale honors the giants of the game. He brings attention to the best in basketball. He gives a history lesson and explains what the Hall of Fame is all about. I'm not a Vitale fan, but this was great. He is in "awe" of what makes basketball so great.

How can you hate somebody that has so much passion and enthusiasm about what he loves? Shouldn't you strive for something like that? He's a character, but he's a good person and loves what he does. You should want the same for yourself

Every now and then I watch this induction speech from Dickie V because it's one of the most inspirational and genuine speeches I have ever heard. How inspiring and selfless this man is makes him so special. He does nothing but thank everyone and still gets excited about a game like when he was a boy. I wish more athletes had his passion and determination because if they did, we would see more greatness. Passion + work ethic + good decision making in your personal life = W in the game of life. Brillant

SHOULD BE A MANDATORY REQUIREMENT FOR EVERYONE IN LIFE! ❤️

I remember going to high school in Detroit when Dickie V. was recruiting cross-town rival John Long to go to U of D. The sports sections of the local papers would quote him after games (he is quotable, don't ya think?). I remember reading that he had said so-and-so would give "105 %"! I remember reacting then, as I do today, "How can you give more than 100%? but his exaggerations and hyperboles became his sports announcing trademarks and who, today, questions any person who says that they or their players give more than 100%? Dicke V. . . .
