Dick York's ending was not as sad as people think. He did spend his last years in poverty, but had a loving wife and circle of friends. Despite his debilitating emphysema, he spent his last years coordinating the delivery of food that was near expiration date from grocery stores to places that served food to the needy. He was a loving and caring person who, despite his poor health and poverty, still managed to serve the less fortunate.

Anyone who has to act with an on-screen partner, husband and wife, girlfriend boyfriend, especially on a series it's very difficult not to 'develop' a relationship and feelings for your co-star. One of those things that makes relationships and marriages very fragile in that industry.

Dick York ultimately became debilitated from both his back issues and chronic emphysema. He lived in a trailer in Michigan and used all the connections he made while an actor in Hollywood to help raise money for the homeless. Mr. York grew up very poor and knew first hand what it was like to struggle to survive

Very difficult for Dick Sergeant to fill those shoes, even though he was an entertaining guy in his own right. But Dick York was, and forever will be, Darren Stevens. I was interested to run across this video giving details of his struggles and later life, I wasn't aware. From all accounts, he was a wonderful person. It is a shame that debilitating back pain prevented him from continuing his career as a TV and movie star. He certainly had the talent for it, unfortunately his body wasn't up to it.
