"The light!" It's there to be a deliberate distraction. Watch the video again and note the changing and repeating patterns of light and shadow in the warehouse. Looking at them it's obvious that they spent at least a good portion of a day making the video. The high intensity light that was attached to the outside of the door distracted your eye and mimicked the sun. That made your brain see this a one continuous performance. Their art and technical direction is always excellent, even when done on a shoestring like their Daft Punk video.

I looked up silence on Wikipedia. They have the direct quote from Paul Simon saying that the opening line. darkness my old friend I've come to talk to you again. That actually refers to him going into the bathroom with the light off and playing his guitar because of the acoustics. So the hello darkness is going into the bathroom and my old friend? Refers to him playing his guitar in the Bathroom. This did become a rally point point song for Vietnam but it was actually written much earlier. But a song is all about what the lyrics mean to you. And yes The Original buy Simon and Garfunkel was a warning. The Version that disturbed does shows the rage in that we still are not paying attention to what is going on around us. And the Pentatonix cover, Is in the middle Offering hope.

Hi. I grew up listening to S&G and love all 3 versions of Sound of Silence. I have watched both of your reactions to Disturbed and Pentatonix. Something I feel I need to point out is that during the Pentatonix cover you stopped the video a couple of times to talk, sang and even talked a bit during it without stopping the video. With the Disturbed cover you could not stop the video, did not sing nor talk during it. The power of the Disturbed cover brought you completely into the song which is a testament to the way Disturbed delivered the song and to David's voice and control of his instrument. I am not into Heavy Metal but have a huge respect for David's amazing talent. To me comparing Pentatonix against David is unrealistic since a person is comparing a singing group, Pentatonix, against a single singer, David. I have listened to several Pantatonix songs and came to realize that, in several ways, the delivery of their songs is similar while I can not say the same with Disturbed's way of their delivery of their songs. I am almost 60 yrs old and I doubt I will ever hear a cover as masterfully done as Disturbed's Sound of Silence and believe it will be many many years, if ever, that any one or any group will do better. Disturbed's version brings up emotions that some people do not want to feel nor acknowledge, even to themselves, which is why they do not care for it as much. That is also a testament to David's talent and abilities. This is just my own observations and opinion. Thanks

Okay, so now you need to react to Avi Kaplan's "Change on the Rise", to hear what PTX's original bass has been able to accomplish on his own. "Change" is an original, with Avi doing all vocals (listen for the deep, deep background bass), vocal percussion, etc. He has a pretty large repertoire of original music, from 3 EP's, and a very loyal world-wide fan base (only some of which followed him from PTX). You'll see how his own music diverges from the more commercial PTX catalog into a more personal, intimate realm.
@jenniferpearce10524 жыл бұрын
I really miss Avi. Not just his voice but I think he added to the musical choices as well. I listen to them less and less because their new stuff does not appeal to me the same. This is not a reflection on Matt at all, but I really felt that Avi and Mitch were the two unique voices that brought me back again and again. I still enjoy watching the Sing-Off episodes where they just surprised everyone with each new challenge.
@charlottevan_84 жыл бұрын
@@jenniferpearce1052 In regard to The Sing Off, people always talk about how PTX pulled out Mitch as a secret weapon in "Dog Days". That's certainly true, but they missed the boat in not having Avi do more than just bass back-up. Hence why so many were pleasantly shocked when he did an ending solo in "I Need Your Love" in their return performance. But PTX was so new during the Sing Off, I think they wanted to stick to the established triad to make the strongest showing they felt comfortable with.

Well you are in the minority on this one. A lot of the other people commenting think it is too "upbeat and joyful". I think that the "story" of the original is intact in this version. It just is done in the PTX "style" that is more intense. 5 voices coming together in a crescendo of harmonies is going to sound different than the "single voice and guitar" original. (By design).

As I've said several times, I've listened to so many reactors share their thoughts on this song, be it the original, Disturbed's version or Pentatonix. I have come to the conclusion that Simon & Garfunkel's version was THE WARNING, before the event. Disturb's version was, this is what you get for not heeding the warning and Pentatonix version is... 'here we are. You made your bed, now sleep in it'. Just a personal analogy on the 3, let's say, most popular versions out there.
