This is a deep and insightful review! For a bit of a contrast, check out "Beggar on a Beach of Gold" by Mike & The Mechanics. This time, the father realises what his family means to him, and though outwardly he gives up success, he finds true riches with his loved ones.

Harry was one of the best "balladeers" I have heard. I had the pleasure of seeing him live three times before he died. Music with a message.

It's so nice to see the youth of today, listening to music I listened to as a child. Good for you!

Dan was in my opinion, one of the best artists of his time, I never get tired of listening to his music. My absolute favorite artist and was lucky to see him in concert twice, both times without his band and it was still incredible. Sure wish he was still here.

When I was a child I was sexually abused for many years, I once heard this on the radio during the night maybe 2/3 am after an episode of abuse at around 9 years old. This song changed my life and I felt like I had escaped my own body and reality and traveled to space. It will always be a very important piece of music to me even if the explanation do not match with my feelings of it xx

Bravo, Daniel, er, Deathstrok. You picked up the most beautiful element of the song (after the incredible harmonies), the alliteration!!! Civilization is not doomed after all. There is hope for the youth of America. Thank you.

I really enjoyed your deconstruction of the lyrics and your observations. I thought you really had a good capacity for articulation with some of the finer points that might be a little bit hard to get across in a reaction video. Very cool

I'm 71, so I remember this song very well. My guitar teacher insisted I learn this before I went on to the more fast upbeat songs I liked. I quit playing over the years and listen to music while driving. Last week, I heard this here on KZbin. It has completely changed my view on this song. I can't stop listening to it. Orginally was like a ballad, not my thing. Now, it's like it's infused within my body and soul. I have never, ever had a song affect me like this. Incredible to still get chills and tears at every listen. Thank you ❤❤

A truly stunning and powerfully evocative track that still gives me the “feels” every time I hear it. My absolute favorite from a catalogue of treasures. Fogelberg’s music transports me back to the college years he helped me survive. I’m forever grateful for having been exposed to his genius.

I think the first time you listen, you should NOT have the lyrics up, so they can hit fully. When you can read ahead, that takes out some of the punch. Then bring up the lyrics on subsequent listens.

Didn't think From The Beginning was prog enough? How's this? By the way, the inside of the album cover has many additional pictures that help depict what happens and what the song is about. Too bad you don't have those.

From the first note, I get goosebumps. I grew up a few hundred miles south of Lake Superior (Gitche Gumee) and this tragic occurrence happened on one of my best friends’ birthdays. Gordon was a masterful singer and songwriter. This is one of the most haunting songs I have ever heard and I am 57. Oh, and my mother worked at the Burlington Northern headquarters in downtown St. Paul, MN.

🎸🎸must have watched this amazing performance about 30 times and I am still mesmerised. The power and huge guitar tone that Tina casually delivers is awesome . Yes, there are other talented metal players who can play this piece but Tina is a cut above. She started studying classical guitar at a very early age and it shows here. Everything is geared towards 100% efficiency and perfection: from the way she is holding the guitar to her « hand and wrist » position, calmly rocking, shredding Beethoven …By the end, I always feel dizzy and exhausted watching her, as if I’ve been on a crazy rollercoaster …🎸🎸

Canned Heat could rock n roll with the best of them in the 60’s, I grew up listening to them and still get up and dance like a teenager when this song plays! That’s right, this 65yo grandma can out dance the best of them! My hubby calls me the dancing’ machine❤️ I am teaching my 3 little grandsons to dance and this house is rocking!!!

I don’t know what the writer intended, but what I get from this is a hard working man, missing his wife. He's out there doing a job that connects him to everyone, but he's alone. So many layers of meaning in this "simple" song. It's a masterpiece.
