Word count goals haven’t been helping me for my current too! I’ve changed it to wanting to finish certain amount of scenes and that helps a ton!

A word count goal gives me anxiety and most of the time it paralyzes me, so now I'm measuring my process in the time I've spend on it.

I've definitely found those kinds of goals to be more helpful!

I wish I could dictate my projects but it's like I can't think when I'm speaking! It's a real issue in job interviews and for public speaking... But when I type, the words go straight from my brain through my fingers so I can avoid any mouth issues, haha

I always suggest authors try it at their own pace. Once you remember it’s not just talking, it’s a godsend. Because RSI is so common, having another method to get words down is key. I was diagnosed with CTS in both wrists years before I started writing, and even though I taught myself Dvorak, it’s still hard on my wrists. I wouldn’t have a career without dictation.

You can also use your Google docs to dictate on. That is what I typically do. Great job. Dictation is a fast way to write as long as you don’t mind all the edits. It takes a while to get used to but once you do it works wonders.

I've been reluctant to use dictation because of having to do so much clean up. Now I feel like I definitely need to try it.

Colorado’s great! Lived here pretty much all of life. Just not interested in staying in the same place forever and want to experience some new places!

I am so keen to use dictate for my novel but I am a pantser and I would really love to know if you outline each scene first or just write a sentence for every scene before trying to dictate, and also sould i try and be very descriptive of the environment and emotion or I should simply just describe the scene as best as my mind sees it then edit. Would really appreciate any advice. All the best with your current and future projects.

I'm just shocked that Wicked Souls was over 100k words, it was such a quick read for me, already listened and read the physical copy twice because I literally can't finish another book at the moment every time I pick up a new book 😖 I have otter, need to start using it because I cannot finish a damn first draft... but also, the grammar and random words it comes out with sometimes really irritates me 🥲 which shouldn't be that annoying considering it's better than not getting anything down. Cannot wait to see how Bloodless Ties comes out, because the ending of Wicked Souls just has me stumped on what's going to happen next.

omg love hearing that! (also sorry, hope you find another book to love soon lol) I think it ended up somewhere around 97-98k but yeah. I've started listening to the recording while I'm editing the transcript so I can hear what I said since sometimes the words it comes up with are just wild
