Sugar is so hard to understand as a Native English speaker. When that song came out I got into argument with my friend about what the lyrics were! I was so confident that the lyrics were "shy girl, yes please..." instead of "sugar, yes please" that I made a bet, which I clearly lost.

The thing that ticks me off is that the people who read the sample in the beginning were Japanese speakers who also provided the contestants translation, and while that's not necessarily a bad thing if you bring proper English speaking Japanese people, Japanese people will almost use such an obscure intonation pattern that makes it so hard to understand what the intention of the sentence is.

Beasue they read English words in katakana way so actually they still speak Japanese while they are trying to speak English. That's why It's hard to understand and the intonation is weird as well. They need to learn the internation pronunciation of English alphabet first instead of using the pronunciation of katakana still.
