Thank you!! Context..... This is 1000% about organizations drooling over Mike Vrabel. Everyone wants the opportunity to bring him in which is completely fine but let's not gloss over the fact that the "one season and out" philosophy is just dumb. To me it doesn't really matter about ethnicity. It's the wrong philosophy and a bad look for the nfl. Hire a head coach and give them at least 3 seasons to prove their mettle, regardless of ethnicity.
@junehanzawa516514 сағат бұрын
@@sammyslam1 One year is to short to evaluate anyone. However, three is too long unless you see a marked improvement in year two. So two is the correct number. The only ones that need to go after one year is those that fire themselves such Urban Meyer.
@sammyslam113 сағат бұрын
@@junehanzawa5165 ....i only say 3 because head coaches are not gm's and usually not given gm authority so for me i would recommend 3 years as a minimum for the head coach and 5 years minimum for gm's. For instance, if Pierce was retained in Las Vegas and a better qb was acquired(proven vet or rookie) that's basically the same as only one season because everything is completely new with a new qb. So in year two with the new qb(vet or rookie) is where i would be looking to see progress(this could be via better record or by terrific offensive or defensive productivity increases and close competitive games) Season 3 would essentially be season 2 if you get my point. 3 total years with a proven vet qb of 1 season with an unproven or mediocre vet and 2 seasons with an improvement at the position. I get what you're saying because owners should have the right to move on after one season but what pisses me off is they almost never fire both gm and head coach! The gm is the one that conducted the interview and made the recommendation. Why would they not go out together after one season? I would fire the guy that recommended the head coach, just my view.

Dan Campbell went 3-13 in his first year, including a meaningless game on the last week against a Packers team that rested their starters for a majority of the game. He lost his first 12 games (edit 1 of the 12 was a tie), yet he didn’t get fired after one year, all with a team he inherited, much like the Raiders/Patriots. The Matthew Stafford trade probably helped him, because owners were able to see him go to a competent team and immediately lead them to a SuperBowl win. I think this indirectly let them know how terrible the lions organization truly was at the time.
@RaiderLoso208 сағат бұрын
He also had 6 years of NFL coaching experience under his belt including being an assistant HC in New Orleans please stop the narrative that AP was ready for this job, cuz he wasn’t. The product on the field showed he wasn’t ready.
@Goldsneak7 сағат бұрын
@@RaiderLoso20 Then blame the owner. AP had NFL coaching experience as well, and experience at other levels. Not great experiences, but experience, nonetheless. Whether he's ready or not shouldn't be held against him, because he was interviewed and selected for the job. The players clearly wanted to play for him when he took over at interim. They scored a franchise record 63 points against the Chargers, when they've been struggling offensively all year. Defense was playing better than usual and creating turnovers. Unfortunately, it didn't translate to wins. Then Adams and Jacobs left, and the Raiders never really replaced them. It's a bad situation for any coach to fall into.
@RaiderLoso207 сағат бұрын
@ I do blame ownership tbh mark davis has shown he sucks as an owner lol and never should’ve just offered the position up like that based on emotion but AP did not have enough coaching expertise to take over this position confidently and he should’ve understood that as well. He repeated all season long his resume is on the field well what did we see? Poor game management and decision making, poor coaching hires, 4-13 season with a 10 game losing streak. That’s pretty bad. And also The raiders did that while playing 2nd and 3rd stringers lol that chargers team was abysmal when that happened. And I agree that it was a bad situation, but I guarantee if a more experienced coach was at the helm it 100% would’ve been less of a dumpster fire
@Goldsneak6 сағат бұрын
@@RaiderLoso20 A more experienced coach...Like Josh McDaniels? Don't even get me started on him. 53 white and 14 black reminds me of another stat, THE AMERICAN POPULATION BY RACE!!! 59% white and 12% black... 53+14=67... 14 spots of 67 is 20%. That's 1.6x the national average while 80% is 1.35x... So, with elementary math it's easy to see that black coaches are more represented by population. 😉👍😂

@@704jizzle2 never said I’ve done an nfl deal but familiar how negotiations work in general. Doesn’t take a genius to know that you don’t show a lot of interest in something you want a good deal on. Ap is an idiot for clearly showing interest and making it clear that that’s who he wanted.

@@gusyhernandez.....i think this is more on the Raiders gm, in my view. Ok, if it's not possible to get up to take Daniels due to Pierce openly advocating for his selection and driving up the value of the #1 pick, what about the other solid qb choices that were in this draft? He didn't drive up their values so one of them could have been targeted by the gm and gotten at fair trade value. I knew the top of the draft was primarily focused on Daniels, Mayes, and Williams and maybe rightly so but my #1 qb was Michael Penix and i think The Raiders gm missed a golden opportunity to add a + level young qb(who actually had a ton of college starts and was in my view the most pro ready regardless of offensive system) This means The Raiders likely don't get Brock Bowers if they move up to grab Penix but i value qb's a lot higher than te's..... Now would Penix have led The Raiders to a postseason berth as a rookie? I don't think so but at the time they still had DaVante Adams so i think there could have been more optimism going forward. Plus with The Jets looking forward to a season with Aaron Rodgers, Adams would have been a perfect trade asset to dangle to The Jets to add better skill position players. I think if i were Mark Davis i would have kept my head coach and added a gm.... Just a thought.
@jamesbroomfield779913 сағат бұрын
AP had no QB. They gave him frickin Minshew smh. AP had nothing to work with and it starts with the QB. The GM is to blame if anything. The Raiders should've drafted a QB last draft
@JourdanChaney12 сағат бұрын
The GM had a great draft. They wanted to trade up to get Jayden Daniels but Washington didn't want to move off of the pick. They wanted Penix but nobody knew Atlanta was going to draft Penix. The only issue really was Minshew which was only a 2 year deal but I think in the GM's mind they knew they were rebuilding and wanted to take a quarterback.
@wray2real12 сағат бұрын
The GM didn't want to draft a QB because this was supposed to be a tank year. That is why they let Jacobs walk, didn't hire Kingsbury, traded Adams and pressed AP into starting Minshew. Diabolical work.

A lot of these owners have no clue about running or building the on-field product. Very few are willing to invest in the front office infrastructure that will help the on field product. For them a GM and a head coach should suffice to win multiple SBs wrong. Otherwise they wouldn’t quick to fire someone after 1 year if they had really surrounded the coaches with what they need to succeed

Comparing Demeco to AP is wild. Resume aside, one had a #2 pick at QB in his first draft and a GM willing to trade to the #3 pick for the best defensive player in the draft- the other had a GM just watch as the QB he wanted to trade up for get picked by an organization who took the OC he initially wanted. They did not get the same deal, do not expect the same results.
@Grumpyk1d12 сағат бұрын
I completely understand what Acho is talking about. Yes Mayo and Pierce got raw deals, clear as day 1 year is not enough for ANYONE to rebuild these two teams. However, neither one of them put in the time and work to come up through the ranks and actually be ready to be head coaches. Neither one of them were ready to be head coaches and shouldn't have been hired in the first place.
