Yes but will it have a heat sink and the brightness? I don’t know but will probably wait as well. I just want a 240 4k monitor with DSC of course because Ngreedia couldn’t spend $20 bucks on better ports. The 4090 and DLSS would make this very flexible for different kinds of games.

I'm glad manufacturers are making both glossy and matte displays with the new panel tech as I tend to have quite a bit of sunlight in my room and the matte coating on my monitors allow me to use them without issue during the day (they are not facing the sun directly but even side angle sunlight still creeps into my view on glossy displays. It's the reason why I choose nothing but matte on my laptops especially if they are ThinkPads.

The heatsink might only cool the chipset and not the panel. The higher brightness might come from smaller safety margins, meaning less longevity.

It's a combination of both the heatsink and lg under running it for safety
@peoplez129
@peoplez129 Жыл бұрын
If the heatsink cools the chipset, it's also cooling the panel, because that's heat that would otherwise soak into the panel. Just like a blower GPU will keep case temps cooler. Personally I think a replaceable active fan solution would be nice on OLED's. Even just a tiny 40mm fan blowing at low RPM would make a huge difference. Heck, even a 10mm fan moving at 200rpm would be better than nothing.

Call of Duty at 1280x960 with super sampling to upscale to 2048x1536 looks stunning and it runs flawlessly at 120hz on that tube. If you are only using the 48" LG CX for work then you will never notice the VRR flicker. There is no fix at this time as what happens is the OLED's are overcharge and overshoot the gamma if the frame rate swing is very sudden like a frame time of 8.5ms to 15ms then back to 8.5ms. Games like the last of us and FF7 on PC are very notorious with this issue. This is not an issue that you look for it is an issue that comes out and may even cause seizures to those who are sensitive to this. I still love my C2 despite this flaw but its very annoying.

Been waiting for this monitor for a while now, glad to see the HDR was fixed. Glad you will be using it as well so we can hopefully see some updates on long term use like burn in which plague OLED displays. I'm still on a 1080p IPS display with a 3080Ti, just waiting for the endgame display which for me is an OLED 240hz 4k .01ms glossy finish display. Micro-LED or whatever the true future is is what I'd prefer. This exact monitor basically but 4k, that will definitely be coming in the next few years or so. Your point about weighing HOW you will use the monitor and IF your computer can drive the games you play at 360 fps is a great point. It was the reason I went with the PG27AQDM over the PG27AQN. I currently have a 360hz 1080p monitor, (also have a 1440p 144hz that I broke) and the game I play the most does not consistently get 360 fps even with a 13900k and 4090.

"visually OLED is just a superior image compared to consumer IPS regardless of use case." This I have to disagree with. All the current OLEDs on the market have text fringing due to the subpixel layout. This makes them subpar for use outside of content consumption. That and burn-in are why I'm not upgrading to OLED for now. IPS is still a better all rounder IMO, particularly when you are looking at the new 360 Hz IPS panels with ULMB2, which according to OptimumTech's results have better motion clarity.

4K at 120hz requires 36.21gbps of signal bandwidth to run without any display stream compression (DSC). As DP 1.4 has a max bandwidth of 32.4 gbps, this may be the reason 4K 120hz is not possible as Asus may not want to introduce the potential for input lag involving DSC. However 4K at 100hz does bring the bandwidth requirement down to 30.17gbps. Maybe they can do a firmware update to allow this at some point. But yea, HDMI 2.1's 48gbps of signal bandwidth would have easily resolved this issue. too bad

Why havent you taken a look at the QD oled ultrawides like the Alienware 3423dwf which goes on sale often for the same price as these 2 oleds? Brightness is much better, colors are also even better and more vibrant on the samsung panel, due to the coating used and i believe it also has a wider gamut as well. I have owned both this LG oled and the 3423dwf and there was no thinking to my decision at all, i knew right away i was sending the LG back. Only downside is of course 175hz vz 240hz, but to my eye the difference is so extremely small that i pretty much couldnt tell the difference. And i tested that with Overwatch on both monitors where my 7900 xtx pushes max frames on both monitors with ease. I had a coil whine issue on my first aw3423dwf and Dell is actually amazing customer service, sent me out a brand new monitor (coil whine free this time yay) and it came next damn day. Plus 3 years and oled is covered and you get a new monitor in a day or 2, i couldnt believe how great dell was, usually coilwhine is not even grounds for RMA at all, but i just sent a video of the sound to Dell and they gave me a new one. Try it out brotha i really think it would be your new main monitor!

No HDMI 2.1 would be a dealbreaker for me, as someone who alternates between PC and console gaming every day. I have the OLED experience on my LG C1 TV, so I’m going with the Samsung Neo G8 for now. I’m not a competitive gamer, and I value immersion highly over other things. I honestly also find that HDR gaming tends to get too dark a lot of the time; many games are poorly optimized for HDR and either get too dark or too bright and washed out.

One thing this review completely failed to address is the fact that this monitor's HDR mode colors are completely screwed. This monitor is HORRIBLE looking, even after updating the firmware to the latest version (103). Also, there are several "HDR Presets" available while HDR is enabled, and those are broken as well, changing nothing when you select one over another. This monitor is a complete no-go for me and anyone that's ever seen actual good HDR (e.g LG C-series TVs) and expect something similar. The SDR mode on this monitor actually looks far superior. lol The LG 27" OLED is far better than this monitor, even considering the brightness. It's clear that Asus took this panel and went nuts with it, and completely destroyed color reproduction in the process. I'm not sure why this was completely glossed over in the review, but seems a bit disingenuous.

Thanks to this video I actually found out about the windows 11 calibration APP, which for some reason I never knew about even though I've been running a 1k+ nit hdr monitor+ windows 11 for at least a year and a half. That it's not part of the windows 11 suite by default, when they advertise windows 11 auto-hdr as a upgrading/selling feature rather irks me....

I had to return my LG OLED 27 inch it was just not bright enough in SDR. I got a open box samsung g8 oled for $999.99 and holy 💩 is it way more brighter than the LG. But motion is alittle better on LG not by much since the g8 oled is 175 but i did notice a difference in motion. But then again any game out side of esports looks crazy on a Ultrawide oled monitor. When i play COD I change it to 16.9 though.

You should take a look at the Neo G7, the local dimming is good enough to leave on all the time(over 1000 zones), HDR is proper with a 1000 nits peak, and its proper 4k 165hz with HDMI 2.1 for both PC and PS5/4k Bluray. Doesn't quite match up to an OLED's blacks but doesn't come with any of the risk either, and having TRUE support for PS5 and 4k content was a big selling point for me (Slo Mo Guys never looked so good, Movies are a different world)

@@jarkiro I can't say if it's better or not because of OLED specifically. I used to get headaches and other issues staring into very bright screens constantly when I was younger. I have been using lowered brightness on my displays my entire life since then as it just made me feel better. The OLED gaming monitor I have right now (LG) I would describe as absolutely perfect brightness. It has the ability to go far brighter in Vivid mode for some games if you want, I use it sparingly.

I just bought the LG version. The SDRmode is sufficiently bright. I dont have any lights pointing at it but do have a relatively bright room. Watching HDR movies in a darkened room with this monitor is way more than acceptable. Highlights are definately bright enough. About equal to my vesa hdr 600 certified lg 32ul750 monitor though average brightness is lower than my 32inch monitor. The excellent delineation of dark scenes though when played in a dark room is perfect though for a cinematic type experience.😅😅 Update I have calibrated this display using LG Calibration Studio which I injected into Calibration 1. This was done using a SpyderX colorimeter. The result is a brighter SDR brightness. Previously on SDR setting could only get a little over 140 nits brightness. Now I can get over 200 nits brightness. Can reach up to 225 nits on 25% window when tuned to SDR on Calibration 1 but is tuned to 200 nits at 94% brightness. There is some loss of brightness with a full white screen but opening the start menu removes the restriction. Since no normal content is a full white screen this is not an issue. The color temperature is more of a true pure white than with the factory SDR setting which is yellowish in appeance. Does not appear blueish either though.

Could not one just keep desktop work at a lower brightness to make burn in not a bigger issue than with the LG? To my understanding burn in isn’t a huge concern with games and TVs have had this brightness and more for years now, so that would be a test.
