I love mine and I think you have hit all the pros and cons. As a long time Brooks customer my current rotation of the gylcerin max and hyperion 2 have all of my training needs covered. I need to think about my race shoe but hoping the hyperion elite will follow the recent evolution. Yes, it's not a cheap shoe but for long easy runs and daily running, it's worth a look.

I wonder if certain shoes, like the Glycerin Max, are targeted at runners who are much slower (and generally much larger) than an elite marathoner.

my only 2 cons i have for this shoe are the weight, and the how hot my feet get in them. as a result i make these my easy run shoes and use my superblast 2 for my long runs. overall a pretty great shoe, i got them for 170

Mine gave me a nasty blister on a 15km run at the weekend. So disappointed. Never had an issue with Brooks before.

I know you mentioned this ain’t for racing, but I’m a 175 lb male, running 11 minute paces. Probably finishing my first marathon near 5 hours. Would this be a good pick?

Though I love it for training, I would look to lighter race day options like the Super Blast 2, Cielo X1, Endorphin Speed/Pro 4, or New Balance SC Elite v4. The ride would be great for a marathon but you will def feel that weight by the half-way point.
