I do think obsession is a much better word than love when talking about Cahir. One thing you gloss over, is that Cahir had dream/visions about Ciri, the same ones as Geralt. Rather than love, I'd say this instilled a very primal need in Cahir to protect Ciri, again much like Geralt. I think Cahir had a desperate need to be Ciri's protector and have her love him, rather than him actually loving her. I think Cahir choosing to stay and fight, instead of trying to flee together with Ciri is the ultimate proof that he wanted to be her protector more than her lover.

Yes, I agree with you. I would add that his obsession to protect her is also a form of a redemption for him. If I remember well, Geralt told him that he was Ciri's nightmare incarnation, so he might feel guilt because he is one of the perpetrator of Cintra massacre and for the previuous reason. After all, he rescued and had mercy for a small girl lost in a burning city.

Cahir is my favorite character in the whole franchise, a young boy just trying to do the right thing, yeah the age thing is a bit weird but looking at Ciri’s other relationships, a 4-6 year age gap isn’t the worst thing 💀

I love his story so much. The way he is portrayed as this dark, demonic being, having done something so terrible to Ciri and now coming after her once again, until this powerful and cathartic encounter with her on Thanedd where the truth is finally revealed. So epic and also cinematographic too, hence I was so dissapointed they removed it completely in the Netflix "adaptation"

"I see her in my dreams, just as I saw her in my dreams back then… I... I want to see her... again. I want to touch her hair again, look into her eyes... I want to gaze on her. Kill me if you will. But I won’t pretend any longer. I think... I think I love her." - Cahir to Geralt in The Tower of the Swallow (chapter 6). Well... it seems to confirm some things... more seriously, the thing is: Cahir's ultimate goal wasn’t to sleep with Ciri or hurt her. He wanted to find her, bring her to safety. He said he kept seeing her in his dreams and is in love with her but unlike everyone else whose goals were to robbing her of her bodily autonomy, from you know who, to the lodge, and the Aen Elle; Cahir on the other hand just wanted her to be well. Cahir does admit to being in love with Ciri, yes, but he also says that he’s a realist and that she will never want him, and he accepts that. Geralt didn't kill him because he appreciated his help and his honesty. Cahir has a great character development and this is why I like him a lot.

(time of contempt) I nicked a few spoilers but really appreciate your efforts. it was actually Another video of yours that inspired me to buy and start reading the books a few mnths back! having finished the game, I'd become captivated with the books, in particular the Lore, and thus now your related videos. Really bummed about how Netflix developed Cahir, such a disservice to his character and the author. Mind you, I stopped watching at the end of Season 2. The writing was just too disappointing to continue. That said, Yes he did love her.

I believe Katia grew to love Siri. It obviously started out as an unhealthy obsession. But because he got tortured by the milf guard Kingdom. And then when he met Gerald and came to an understanding, and he told Gerald that the situation has changed for him. He is not going to take Siri backto her father. He found his true friends.

When he first met her he was about 16, so he's only a few years older so it makes the whole falling for her thing a bit more palatable

I think what you say here is correct, Cahir did develop a true love for Ciri after obsessing over her in his dungeon cell in Nilfgaard, and his sacrifice in the end was not only for Ciri, but also for the found family that had taken him in like one of their own, in the end the Nilfgaardian who insisted he wasn’t a Nilfgaardian showed he had a good heart. Even though on first reading the books I cringed at the part where he says he loves Ciri, now in retrospect it doesn’t really change my opinion of him. In the context of the times and the story no one seems to bothered about it, not even Geralt, so why should I?
