Exactly my thoughts. From the beginning of the movie we can see that her parents struggle financially- the food is not fresh, they live in a house that looks like it's abandoned, and are basically tired from work. Of course they're moody, nervous and don't have enough time for Coraline

Any reason why they seem completely fine with their child being covered in dust, cobwebs, and disconcerted about her ripped clothes, also ignore the snow on them? Also items in the house never went back to normal after her first visit to the other house. Like the radiator and one of her toys in her bedroom.

I would normally agree, but the end of the movie pretty clearly insinuates that the other world is still active somehow because the cat goes into a portal and then there’s a menacing boom sound

Also like, even if she didn’t escape, what would be the point? If the other mother wanted to eat up her life, pretending that she didn’t escape and creating a whole world where she didn’t actually escape just doesn’t make sense

I think the parents are "better" because they finished their gardening catalog and now they have the time to be present. They weren't negligent or uncaring they were just on a massive time crunch on top of having just moved. At the end of the movie they got all caught up on responsibilities and now have time to do recreational activities with their kid.

The cat is going through mice/ rats portals the beldam has made for them to spy on coraline, coraline did leave, in fact the director even said she did, look it up.

Yes, if I remember correctly from the book, the cat mentioned that there are portals the Other Mother doesn't know about. I think we should be more worried about the well, tho, as it might be another portal to the other world. Coraline trapped the Other Mother's hand there with the key. In the book, this happened too, but the hand wasn't crushed. Also, the well is surrounded by mushrooms that resemble a fairy ring, which in some cultures symbolizes a portal to another world😊

Wouldent the cat travelling to another world in the real world at least mean the other world isn’t gone and or there are multiple other worlds even if coralline did escape the other mother another thing like her might exist if the cat can still travel

@@ShootingStarInk I think I agree with that logic, I think the cat travelling indicates the existence of still the other mother's world or others but it doesn't indicate Coraline didn't escape. Plus the Beldam is starved so that could contribute to the idea that's it MORE worlds and not HERS he's travelling to.

my theory coraline only went through the door like 5 times in the movie one time she was so deep into the trap and so deep into the beldams realm that the other mother allowed her to go through the door in the most random time of the day that was errie as fuck for me as days went by her patience grew less and less cause at the first day she thought about attacking coraline but when she asked if she wanted to go out in the rain she started tapping fingers on the table making it known if she will agree with things she says to fall into the trap of the button eyes but the beldam was smart and let coraline explore the world more before the patience was less thicken its like the beldam has patience but at the same time the patience has a limit to it also i still think mr b miss spink and her sisters were survivors of the beldam but they all are so old that they can barley remember anything cause how dose the real world mr B know about the door and the jumping mice peformance

Just watched the film, and yeah my main impression is that yeah the parents aren't giving her the attention that she theoretically should get, buuuuuuut it is extremely clear that they are doing their best in their situation. Like it's communicated repeatedly that their financial situation is very tenuous, they moved to an old crappy house and tipped a single dollar because they're penny-pinching right now, and their medium term finances depend entirely on the quality of their work, which they are doing on a deadline. Her mom wants to buy her nice things she wants, but $25 for gloves just isn't within their budget. The ending scene has an entirely different tone because their catalogue was successful and they don't have the stress of incoming poverty weighing over them anymore, and are enjoying the social contact with their neighbors that Coraline pushed them into.
