Caitlin rocks! Back in April, I was getting another tattoo from my artist and asked her how she got started and she said she was supposed to be a mortician! So we spent 8 hours talking about death and I mentioned Caitlin and she was "I love her". Even a young waitress at a diner by me told me she wanted to be a mortician because of Caitlin and I told her she was doing a book signing at The Mutter Museum in Philadelphia (during Will My Cat Eat My Eyeballs...) and told the young waitress the details needed. She was so happy. Apparently, I've become Caitlin's PR person in South Jersey and I am more than ok with that.

Plague-off topic but I wanted to say that you really do help people in many different ways. I want to thank you for this: in 2019 I developed tinnitus and a ‘mild’ version of hyperacusis. I felt miserable because I thought I had to quit music and many things that I love. I couldn’t sleep at night because the noise I heard was too loud, and relaxing music didn’t work for me very well. That’s when I found your videos, and your voice as well as the way you narrate everything was very soothing for me. I would play the videos as background sound until I fell asleep. Now that I’ve adapted better to my condition, and that I don’t feel so sad about it anymore, I’m re-watching them out of joy. Thank you for all your amazing work.

I just saw an explanation for the Plague. So whenever the Earth goes into a great cooling cycle i.e. think of the Year without Summer, the bacteria in certain flea species stomachs became unstable causing an infection in the flea. This infection gave the flea symptoms of never being full so they kept feeding on whatever host they could find thus transferring the bacterial infection to the flea's host. So most plague outbreaks can be chalked up to natural disasters like all those times when Krakatoa exploded
@SoundShinobiYuki
@SoundShinobiYuki 2 жыл бұрын
A related theory I read is that the Great Famine in Europe, from 1315-1317 (which also heralded the end of the medieval warm period and took several more years to recover from), resulted in a generation of adults who grew up with weaker immune systems due to growing up malnourished during their childhood in the famine. As a result, they had even less resistance to plague and died disproportionately, when typical epidemics typically mostly kill the old and the children. Medieval plague graves unearthed by archaeologists (note that I said graves, not pits- the massive pits with bodies just dumped in were mostly a feature of the 1666 outbreak and avoided as much as possible in medieval society) show that most of the dead in them were in their 30's and 40's.
@nomorepikachu
@nomorepikachu 7 ай бұрын
Could be, but the general consensus is that a mischief of rats gets decimated by the plague very fast. After about three days the fleas get so desperate that they will feed on humans. But of course natural disasters will always create the perfect conditions for diseases to come up and spread fast, and that infection could play a role as well.

IMO infected corpse flinging isn't even the most unpleasant method of biological warfare invented by men. That would be arrowtips smeared with human excrement, creating a neat little package of really nasty infectious agents that could be delivered direct to your enemy's bloodstream.
@avi8r66
@avi8r66 2 жыл бұрын
@@tavdy79 But you have to hit your target with that small arrow head. And just seeing it on the ground isn't going to have much impact. But seeing human corpses shredded all over your roofs, gardens, walking paths, barrels of food stuffs, smashing through windows into the living spaces, not only do the people under siege need to see it and smell it, they need to clean it up and dispose of them, usually burning them which smells awful as well, while more corpses are being thrown at them. So while medically the arrow is going to be more effective the waste material, corpses and carcasses will just wreck the people on the receiving end by sheer proximity. And if they know the people being thrown at them this adds hopelessness to their effects. Warrior goes out, head comes flying back.

@iron tansy Depends on the launcher really. If it's a cloth sling contraption vs a wooden platform or bucket. And the acceleration of the sling is slow, but the impact on the other end is sudden. So yeah, still messy, but that's what slaves and captives were for, handling messy stuff.

She was a qualified nurse. She had cared for Nana for several years and she was emotional at her passing as well. She was the one who called us and told us we needed to come as the end was near. I was the only one of the 4 adult grandchildren able to make the journey in time. We got to spend about a day at her bedside, with my 5-month-old son babbling away and patting her hand. I take a lot of comfort in that. She couldn't speak anymore, but she looked happy to interact with one of her great-grandchildren.

Just recently discovered your channel and I'm so glad I'll have a LOT of content to catch up while you're on break! You're absolutely amazing. I don't know if you play games, but if you do, I'd love a review of A Mortician's Tale. Have fun on your break & see ya

The editing on this video was simply MAGIC, just like the middle ages.

Caitlyn: "Of course people in the middle ages catapulted more dead stuff at their enemies!" Me: "yes, of course. That totally checks out"

Caitlin, thank you for these videos! I really appreciate your take on things and what (from my total lack of self-research) seems to be well-researched content. I appreciate it!
