The Redoutable is fantastic and the Shibboleth as well. I was lucky to got one bottle of only 300 which came to Germany and it's super hard to not go through it super fast. For a 16 year old one it's super smooth and the aroma as well as the flavor is amazing at least for my palate but it does lack in some departments compared to some other bottles of Foursquare. The Vintage 2009 is also very good and somehow really different compared to the 2008. Really enjoyed the breakdown / analysis .

Weirdly this expression reminded me of Elijah Craig 18. Too much wood tannins. I am the last one to try and tell Richard Seale what to do, but I think he overshot the mark on this. I can see the vanilla, spice and wood sugars he was trying to push for, but for me it stepped all over the fruits that should have still been there. I don't begrudge paying for the age, but for the price point this didn't deliver.

I just picked up the foursquare detente for 63$ it’s good but it’s not 2005 good

Really, I think the best value is Sagacity, if you can still find it. That ans $63 is a good deal for Detente, I think I payed like $75 each for the two I have.

Detente is very different 2005 is only bourbon. detente is bourbon and port but they are both very good.

Right. I don't like this trend where each edition seems to get more expensive. I was hesitant to buy Redoubtable at $130ish, and frankly it's my least favorite so far. I could have saved $50 and picked up another 2008.

@@czrs85 I think I payed $75 at Costco, but the bottles of 2008 that I'm seeing still on the shelves places are $80-90. With that said it's between the 2005 and the 2008 for my favorite rum ever.

Love you guys, love that you do these, and love your love of Foursquare. Respectfully... Shibboleth is my personal favorite of all the Foursquare ECS releases. LOL. And I am totally biased for the brand releases all around. This is one of the few that I've totally drained this quickly. Again - love the process here and the independent scoring system, and I'm not un-subscribing by any means. ;)

Previously, by law, Distilleries in Barbados had to work through an independent bottling company and could not market their products directly. Hence Foursquare produced Real McCoy and Doorly's under contract. That law changed letting them market Foursquare direct. But they have continued to honor their existing partnerships.

Bummed about this. K&L interviewed Richard Seale where they talked about this release - highly touted. Picked up a bottle when it showed up at the local bottle shop before seeing this. Still haven't cracked it open. Have you guys tried it again after it opened up a little?

That is if you can find it. My understanding is that this is the most limited release yet. I think It's only 4500 bottles in the US. I know the Total Wine Concierge already had sold out by the time I saw the email 6hrs after it was sent.

Foursquare doesn't need to do any past 12 years and the price for the 16 is high and a few years ago 12 year stuff was under $70. 2009 vintage should be interesting and I have a feeling it will be better than this 16 and around $80 and 12 years old. We will see.
