Given the massive size of the universe and the limitless creativity of God, I would say that is safe to assume that alien life forms undoubtedly exist in other parts of the cosmos. Therefore, I believe the following theological questions to be more interesting regarding this topic: - Do they (aliens) have a soul like ours? - Do they too have the original sin? - Are they in need of salvation as we are? - Could they receive the sacraments as we do? I have zero doubts about the existence of life in other worlds, but as a Catholic, these four are the questions that actually intrigue me from a theological perspective.

Fascinating questions indeed. With regards to Question #2: I've often wondered what would've happened had Adam and Eve obeyed God? There's nothing in the Bible that discounts others created in His image and likeness elsewhere, we only know for certain that it happened here. Had Adam and Eve not fallen, then they would've remained in their originally intended state of communion with our Father. We don't really know what that would've entailed as time went on because it was cut short by disobedience. It's interesting to think if others elsewhere did not fall from grace as man on Earth did, they might appear to us as so advanced as to be spiritual beings not dissimilar from the angels. It's this that I think in the fallen world will keep us from ever progressing beyond a certain point. We can only "peek" out at the cosmos, relatively speaking. Someday, in our glorified bodies in Christ, I think we will be amazed and in awe of what is really going on out there. Until then, we are not ready for it.

If aliens have a rational soul then they too are made in the image of God. I have to believe that God would be with them as well. And I have to believe that if they built spaceships to travel all the way here that they have a rational soul.

Fr Mike makes a good point. If extraterrestrial people exist, they were made by God in His own image and likeness-they must have souls that animate their bodies and will live forever, the same as ours. Some of these ETs could be demons, who are beyond saving-highly likely. However, we must keep in mind that there is only ONE Jesus Christ, Son of God, Who created EVERYTHING! I am absolutely certain that He sacrificed Himself once for all creation, including ETs, if they exist. If we ever encounter an ET it is up to us faithful to evangelise them. “Baptise all the nations in the Name of the Father, Son, Holy Spirit, teaching them all that I commanded you.”

Upon my inquiry about aliens, my priest told me, "Why not? God is great!" I interpreted, that God will reveal his creations as our understanding grows. Our ancestors, the bible authors, would be pretty confused if he revealed say, electricity and how we can harness it. But he gave us the intelligence to learn and discover his orders, formulas, or ingredients as my mother would say. It would be pretty cool if in our lifetime we could discover our "cousins" from a different planet.

My take is church badly altered the teachings of Jesus to establish the sales of indulges and a power hungry world wide empire - slowly falling apart today… Jesus most probably taught enlightment like told in unaltered and hidden texts like the Gospel of Thomas found in 1945 in Egypt. Just read Logie 1-3. This would provide a very simple solution for aliens and all religions, a kind of a unifying theory. Every soul evolves over many lives ON MANY PLANETS and „Aliens“ would simply be other people, our sisters and brothers on other planets. And when a soul is ready to go to God for ever and rise to eternal heaven after many lives it will merge in God. Just like aliens, reincarnation would make God and the human journey on earth so much greater! Just imagine you already knew all the people and souls around you for 1000s of years. Just imagine your parents maybe already have been your childs in past lives or aunt and uncle or grandfathers or grandchildren. Live gets that much bigger! I accuse chirch of willingly and violently changing and altering the words of Jesus to establish a power hungry empire dominating half the planet. Its not about believing in Jesus then, it‘s about following him, living the myth, take him as role model, resurect yourself from the dead and find enlightment. Go to the inner desert and pray and meditate and walk the spiritual live like Jesus. Reincarnation makes much more sense. The Gnostics were a groups of pagans that survived by latching themselves onto other belief systems.They were not organized in their beliefs, and each one of those beliefs can be linked to a specific person. Like parasites, they attached to other pagan religions, Judaism, and then later Christianity. While Gnostics were an annoyance to the Apostles (John seems to emphasize, in certain parts, Jesus having a material form because of this), their writings (which were written in an attempt to legitimatize themselves) came about around the second century. The actual Gospels were obviously written in the first. The primary lie (believed myth?) is that you stated that the Church changed teachings because of the Empire and hunger for power. The Church was persecuted by the Roman Empire (to lesser and greater degrees) until the Edict of Milan, in AD 313. The Gnostic writings were never accepted by the Church, from the moment they were "penned." This was, again, in the second century. One of the ways that the apostles, and their successors, the Early Fathers, combatted the Gnostics was that they were able to link their teachings and writings from one Bishop, to their predecessor, all the way back to Jesus and the Apostles (due to Apostolic Succession). They were also able to link the Gnostic writings to their authors, and the specific type of Gnosticism they practiced (there were many). The man who led the group who wrote the Gospel of Thomas believed much differently than the man who wrote the Gospel of Judas, for example. So no, the Jews never believed in reincarnation. And so no, the original Christians never believed in it either. The belief requires that some sort of intelligence would guide its process. Otherwise, none of it makes sense logically. Energy cannot be destroyed, but it does go from complex (due to entropy) to less complex. This would lead to the opposite of an improved, more ordered, state.

After having my experiences with a wicked being from the unseen world mentioned in Ephesians 6 10:20. The wicked spirit was giving me nightmares for two weeks until it finally revealed itself, which was the most intense experience ever. How it had the ability to generate fear to the point I was able to feel it. @@danjohnson7128 In the beginning, God made the Heavens and Earth.... The "Heavens" are everything else, and there's a LOT of it. But the details of what is going on "out there" aren't necessary or helpful for our own story, which is illustrated in the Bible. Gods perfect creation of man in His image and likeness, our fall from grace, our redemption through Christ, and our transformation to glory with Christ after his second coming is the narrative for man on THIS planet, Earth. Having said that, none of that discounts the potential reality of aliens, or life on other planets, or that God created beings elsewhere in His image and likeness. We can't confirm or deny any of that, and so we should be careful not to speak in absolutes about things not revealed to us. God gave us eyes to see (a mere peek) the great expanse of stars and galaxies beyond us. I believe it's a wink. :).

I have to disagree on this one. As a former New Ager, one of my areas of interest was ufology. After reading tons of material on UFOs, aliens, alien encounters, abductions, etc., I have to concur with big UFO names like J. Allen Haynek and Jacques Vallee who, when they were tasked to look into the phenomenon, at first were total skeptics and didn't even believe in UFOs, but after thorough analysis came to the conclusion that aliens aren't extraterrestrials from another planet like we assume, but that they are demons from another dimension. Case in point: There are multiple testimonies from abductees who say that they were able to stop an abduction in progress by calling on the name of Jesus Christ. Ask yourself: Why would flesh-and-blood aliens care about the name of Jesus? They should be able to just laugh it off... "those silly humans, thinking they can stop us with that hocus-pocus." But no, reportedly those entities flee as soon as you pray to Jesus to save you. Food for thought. I think part of the coming Great Deception will be a public landing of "friendly space brothers" of the Galactic Federation who will declare that they're the "ancient gods" who created us and have now returned to bring world peace and amazing alien technology, at the helm their commander Lord Jesus Sananda (I'm not making this up, BTW, these are channeled entities, and we know what those are). Beware-pray for discernment or you too will be deceived by these satanic schemes.

The orthodox Christian belief is what St. Paul teaches in 1 Thessalonians, that the Lord Jesus will return only once, at His Parousia (Second Coming) on the Last Day at the end of the world, and this is when all believers still alive on earth will be "caught up" (a.k.a. I think that the vast incomprehensible distances between stars is by design. We in a fallen state are not meant for what is beyond yet. The fact that we hate our neighbor and love ourselves means we are no where near ready for the revelation of what is "out there". And the fact is, in this fallen state we never will be. God has given us brains to advance and take a "peek" out into the cosmos- literally a glance into our backyard- and that's about it. We will reach the boundary of the knowable in both philosophy and science while in this fallen world. One of the early Christian folk/rock stars, Larry Norman, wrote a song called "U.F.O.", released in 1976. It's about the Lord's return. The lyrics go like this (in part): "And if there's life on other planets Then I'm sure that He must know And He's been there once already And has died to save their souls." Ray Bradbury, the science fiction writer, also wrote a short story in which humans discover aliens. A Catholic priest is sent as a missionary to tell them the Gospel...but when he interacts with them, he learns that they never fell from grace, so they had no idea what he was talking about. They knew God and it had never occurred to them to disobey Him. They never sinned, so their contact with humans was also their first knowledge that anything like sin even exists. They were completely traumatized by it, as you can imagine! I think this story was either part of "The Illustrated Man" anthology of short stories, or perhaps it was in "The Martian Chronicles"...can't remember which.

One thing I've thought about at times, and speculated on: What if beings on other world's didn't fall like we did on Earth? Would they be so advanced as to be indistinguishable from angels? They may very well be. However, I don't know to what degree (if at all) God would allow them to interact with us at this point in time. I think the fallen world we currently occupy is and will always be incapable of advancing beyond a certain point, to a point where interstellar and even inter-dimensional travel through space and time is possible. We are kept from knowing the full mysteries of the cosmos because the vast spiritual and heavenly knowledge is beyond temporal, natural world comprehension. These dying bodies that are gone in a relative instant due to the sinful nature we inherited from Adam can only be reborn in Christ. For now, the Bible, God's revelation to man on THIS planet is all that we know, and it is sufficient for our own salvation and deliverance into the inheritance that comes through Christ Jesus.

That is absolutely correct about the entire universe being in the fall-it's the time and space of creation. I'm glad the church is starting to talk about aliens because this is the area that will deceive the masses. If "alien" contact comes to us, it will actually be the fallen angels/demons disguised as beings of light aka aliens that will bring a false sense of hope and peace. I've got a bit I can say about...some? Form of...something? That I was convinced, and still have not much reason to be convinced otherwise, is/was an experience with a being from outside of this planet. It happened when I was pretty young, probably 8 or 9. I'll go into deeper details if someone asks, but long story short, I knew my thoughts were being heard by something, I asked if it would show that it heard me, and then it was like I saw a star come from another star. It put on a beautiful display, for me, my mother, and my grandmother, and then was gone practically in an instant. It left a very lasting impression on me. It completely had my attention, for years and years. I was obsessed, and devastated honestly, that it never came back, never spoke back, only dazzled me and left. Literally 20 years passed, roughly. Shortly after I came to know God, or rather, realized I was known by GOD, REAL God, and not this mysterious being or beings that basically swindled me as a kid, I prayed one night to God about what I had seen as a kid. Begged Him to let me know what it was, and if it was of Him or not. That night I had a very short dream. In the dream there was a human (looking) silhouette. It had medium length hair, there was wind blowing, it's hair was moving, I saw no features of it but what looked like angel wings, and it's hair. And there was an EXTREMELY bright light behind it, making it to where, again, all I could see was the silhouette of the being, and the light that was passing through it's angelic looking wings. And I was terrified. I didn't want to speak. And then I woke up just as I spoke out, saying "God please help us." The next day I started looking through this Bible trivia book I'd just gotten the day before. First question that I looked at was "What does Lucifer disguise himself as in the current age?" And of course, the answer is "an angel of light." Because of this, I'm almost certain that the beings that meddle here are likely fallen angels, or their offspring, or something along those lines. There's a bit more to support my theory, I'd like to talk about it more, but I've already said a lot. Assuming anyone reads this, thank you for your time, God bless you! When I was younger, some scientists assumed that life could be produced at a laboratory. I'm still waiting. Some years ago some scientists assumed that there is life in other planets, so far away that we don't know if we will be able to travel in the future. They assume that they are more intelligent than we are and they are visiting us. We'll see. Nowadays they are looking for water and some assume that there is ice in the hidden side of the moon. I really hope that they are right because I feel somehow frustrated about the scientists announcements.

You can reproduce virus, bacteria and other microorganisms, and you can have in-vitro processes for producing viable zygotes, implant them and allow them to develop into animal or human babies. But none of those qualifies as creating life from scratch material. Even Miller-Urey experiment (you´ll have to correct me if there is a more recent one, it has been like 24 years since the last time I studied that in school) came up with aminoacids, but not with a self sustaining, self replicating organism that could be considered as new life.

If extraterrestrial people exist, they were made by God in His own image and likeness-they must have souls that animate their bodies and will live forever, the same as ours. Some of these ETs could be demons, who are beyond saving-highly likely. However, we must keep in mind that there is only ONE Jesus Christ, Son of God, Who created EVERYTHING! I am absolutely certain that He sacrificed Himself once for all creation, including ETs, if they exist. If we ever encounter an ET it is up to us faithful to evangelise them. “Baptise all the nations in the Name of the Father, Son, Holy Spirit, teaching them all that I commanded you.”

In science the theory of the fine-tuning of the universe helps us understand that the universe is tuned to only support life like our planet. So the possibility that there is a solar system exactly like ours is infinitely small. It would have to be a copy paste solar system. I believe even if alien life existed there wouldn't be an intelligent species with a soul, because humanity is the centre of God's creation. Humans are so exclusively important to God that he literally became one of us and still lives in a human body in heaven. If God went ahead and created other human-like species he would have to subject them to humanity's superiority, since God himself is now a human as well in the person of Jesus Christ. And I cannot imagine that God would incarnate himself again for a different species to be saved, so they would be saved by the Godman just like us.

I completely agree my brother/sister. Just open up the Catechism to numeral 356. Just by these two or three lines, the existence of intelligent life other than man is disproven. Of course, angels are intelligent life, but that is why the catechism says "Of all VISIBLE creatures..." For God to deprive any other creature with a soul of his love would be saying that God is not all good and all love. But he is. Therefore, the conclusion seems clear to me. God bless!

But if King Jesus one day came to Earth and explained we have cousins in outer space, I would take it as true. I mean, Our Lord would be confirming that. Who am I to question Our Lord. I’m sorry I have never understood why this has been such a difficult thing for people of faith to believe that there is other even more intelligent beings that exist beyond this tiny speck of dust in the universe. I was raised in the faith and this has never been a problem for me.
