It's not the bass specifically. The bass matters as far as pickups and their position and electronics (passive vs active), but it's more about the effects, amp, speaker, and mic placement (or amp and cab sims). His tone is great though. Edit: strings too. Both age and type.

Charles: Finesse, sharpness, speed, smoothness. His fingers dance with the strings with softness, making it sing sweetly. Davie: Agressive, raw, brute, explosive. He slaps and punishes the strings making it scream fiercely. I love both styles.

@deivi14 жыл бұрын
That's what I've loved about his playing since he was first on here and I started following him. It isn't just fast and complex for the sake of being fast and complex. Almost everything he plays has incredible, memorable melody to it. I've been amazed how many just get stuck in my head because of that part of his playing. Davie plays some crazy and intricate slapping stuff, but none of it sticks with me in any way, even short-term. I think Charles is really similar to Victor Wooten, who I think is one of the most melodic bassists ever (and who I know he loves and regards as a huge influence).

@davie504 higher octave is not harder, = easier
@Nite6404 жыл бұрын
@@edwardbrown561 maybe to you, lol. pretty sure most bassists would disagree with you. Its not easier or harder, its just a different style and technique of playing.
@edwardbrown5614 жыл бұрын
@@Nite640 no its not, the higher the octave, generally (unless you have a 6+ strings) the frets get closer together, its not a different technique, its math. Unless you have long fingers like buckethead, or davie..., its going to be easier to travel note to note when they're closer together. I will say its even easier on that Sterling he has, as well, being a shorter scale bass
@Nite6404 жыл бұрын
@@edwardbrown561 Coming from multiple years of playing the bass, i have to disagree. What we are specifically talk about here is tapping, which i don't know how you don't consider that a different technique, given you don't pluck the string with a finger or pick, unlike tapping where you tap the fret (which, because it constitutes playing the instrument in question a different way than normally played, can be considered a different technique). The smaller the fret is, the lower chance you have of correctly hitting it for the correct tone and accuracy. Higher parts also usually include more notes and more complex melody, making it harder to stay in time and again, get the right tone. You cannot assume that a person has the experience of playing the guitar or knowing music theory when they start to learn the bass, a person might not be educated in music theory or note names of frets. Therefore, i think it can be argued from an objective standpoint that they are equal in difficulty and are just different ways of playing. One person could have trouble keeping rhythm, while another person might not be able to register which frets his fingers need to land on.
