One thing I really like about this theory is how the finding the answers (Dave giving Cassidy's, and vice versa) can also frame how the two souls come across, in a way. Cassidy is very focused, asking questions, trying to draw out anything and the name puzzle is concise. Whereas Dave seems less 'there', his answers are vague or displaced, and the name puzzle is more of a jumble. He feels more 'spaced out' than Cassidy in this book. Fascinating, IMO! And Happy Birthday! Your crown is fantastic, I hope there was cake.

The only explanation I have for the "does he still talk to you?""I can hear sounds" debate is cc is replying with confusion. By that I mean he's basically saying, "idk, maybe he does maybe he doesn't. I can't tell, I can just hear general sounds"

I think it's more that because his head was crushed. He can still hear but not perfectly. So for him, it's just going to be sounds after he died. It makes sense with the question of whether he still talks to you. To everyone else, it's clear English. For him, it is only mumbling sounds. So he is gonna answer as it is to him like with every other question. Yes he can hear them but it's only sounds.

This is likely the case as he also can't see. Him losing his senses or most of them due to various things like how he died or what state his body was in before death would explain his weird answers.

"Does he still talk to you?" (He doesn't exactly, but) I can hear sounds. That's my interpretation of how the conversation sounds like. To me it seems that Dave means to say "He doesn't TALK, I do however hear sounds that remind me of him". We do have to remember he is a little scared boy, his answers are not very straight forward but they do still INTENT meaning.
