If you're a rider who loves to hit the open road on two wheels, you know that handling is everything. Unfortunately, one of the most common issues that riders face is speed wobble. This is a phenomenon where the front wheel begins to oscillate back and forth uncontrollably, often at high speeds. Not only is it unnerving, but it can also be dangerous.
In this video, we'll explore how changing your tires can help alleviate speed wobble. Specifically, we'll take a look at the MotoZ Dualventure tire for the front and the MotoZ Rallz for the rear. These tires are designed to offer superior handling and stability, especially on rough terrain.
I had been using MotoZ Rallz on my Harley Davidson Pan America Special with great success, so decided to put them on my Aprilia Tuareg 660. I encountered poor handling and road manners above about 70mph (~112kph), with speed wobble around 77-79mph.
Before I began traveling to ADV Fest 2023 out in Mojave, CA, I decided to put the OE Pirelli tires back on the bike. While they did work very well for on-road travels, I was still interested in seeing if I could find a tire combo that would work well for on-road travel, but be more more aggressive for off-road fun.
On the road, I reached out to Kyle Bradshaw ( / @manybikes ) to see if we could talk tires for a bit. Kyle really brought the stoke, and we setup a time where I could swing by his house, talk tires, what makes a good tire, and then possibly do an install.
My normal shop charges $30/each + plus taxes and shop supply fees to change tires. Being able to swap the tires out at home saves at least $60 and the time.
After discussing with Kyle, I opted for the MotoZ Dualventure upfront and the RallZ on the rear. I was still a little nervous about the Dualventure, but hey, I was talking to 'THE tire guy'. Shorly after the install, I had the bike fully loaded again and was on the road down to Oceanside, CA. The pavement has some decent grooving to shed water, and I was pleasantly surprised by the lack of speed wobble (up to ~82mph, I've not tested anything faster yet).

Awesome info, just found your channel, I currently run Motoz Rallys front and rear on my T-7, I felt the wobble in Wyoming at interstate speed 80mph, but thought it was the surface lines on the pavement, 70mph is our top interstate speed here in Indiana,

I'm definitely not a fan of the wobble. There is a sensation of 'float' (not sure the best way to describe it), but that's something that I have addressed by 'carving' back and forth in the lane (also something that @manybikes has a video on). I'm running the RallZ on my Pan Am, and not had any wobble sensations, but I have had the 'float' sensation there. I prefer riding at highway speeds of around 65/75, but Interstate travel us a necessity at times. Ride safe!

I had some wobbles with my front MotoZ Dual venture when it was brand new. Now it's all good and I can push 140/150kms/h no problem. I recently added a GPR Stabilizer as well

I use Motoz Tractionator Adventure front and rear. In bad wind, I will get wobble over 70, but other than that, they ride pretty well. Off road they are incredible

This go-round on tires, I went with the Bridgestone AX41. They are really great on road...offroad, I can't say that they've left me wanting more. However, with around 1500 miles on them, then rear is already looking pretty worn... Still, super happy with them from a performance perspective. I may try and AX41 up front and a RallZ on the rear pretty soon.

I had same proble with same tires. I also thought its tires. At the end of the day I set up my susspension correctly and now its all fantastic. Looks like the problem is when your front and rear preload is of balance. Tuareg have a short wheel base and its very sensitive. So try to set up correct sag and balance fron and rear. It should be good after. At least for me it worked

I spent sometime working on a loaded and un-loaded pre-load setup. The rear was really easy to setup, the front was a bit more of a challenge with the variable spring rate. In my case, when I switched back to the OE tires, my wobble issue went away (keeping everything else the same). I've since added a GPR steering stabilizer to my bike, and love that: kzbin.info/www/bejne/joS0qHmKf8R5icU

Do you have the suspension sag set right WITH all the gear and yourself on the bike? If the sag on the rear is too big it affects the overall geometry a lot.

I have the dual venture on the front of my Taureg and it wobbles over 70 mph. And that is inflated to 35 psi. It wobbles worse at lower psi.

Stephen - Hoping I don't run into that (so far, so good). I've been running the suspension in either 1UP settings, or 1UP plus luggage (full rear pre-load and 7mm exposed front preload)...something worth checking in case you haven't.

Yup the OEM tires are excellent on road anyway. 80-90+ with mine, on the highway… like Dakar. Confident, capable, solid.

Same issue different bike and tyres. Husky 701 with Pirelli scorpion rally race front and motor desert h/t rear. I had these on a T7 and they were great.

James - I wish it were less expensive to try different tires out ;) At least the @Rabaconda makes changing them much simpler than heading to a shop. The setup worked well in the desert, but I'm always tinkering with stuff to see what works best for me. How often do you make tire changes? Only when needed, or also when you want to?

Hi, i am running dualventure front and Motoz Ralz read. The speed wobble is still enevitable above 70, especially on uneven pavement. I can still do 80 but need to watch out for cracks in the pavement. I would try something else next time, may be some 50-50 like.

Yes, each time I had new rubber installed (or re-installed the OE tires), they were re-balanced.

There is nothing wrong with the tires. You will find that the rear is taller that stock (or most) tires. You need to adjust your preloads (aka Geometry) to get this corrected. Also take into account all the stuff you pile on the bike. You should have 25% - 33% sag loaded. Start from there. A wobble can be from not having enough load on the front or too much.

I have the RallZ f&r on one CRF 300 and the MT21/D606 on the other. Both sets are noisy on the road and get sketchy above 60mph however the latter set is superior off road in the Florida sand. I had a Tiger 900 RP with AX 41 which rode great on and off road but were a bit noisy. Going to trade the 300 Rally soon for a Tuareg so I’m already making plans for replacing the oems

Red- I ended up adding a steering stabilizer (GPR v5) to the Tuareg, and it’s been a VERY nice addition. I’m pretty sure another company is offering a mounting kit for Scott’s Stabilizers too, just in case you decide you want to go that way.

Heh, when I added the HDB guards, I thought I’d give a “on-road/off-road” mirror setup a try…then winter hit. I’ll give it a whirl at #advfest and see if it’s worth keeping. The mirrors on the HDB Guards are durable, so they may be the keepers.
