Editing Nia did NOT need to get on here and make an appearance disclaimer! 😭 Don't be so hard on yourself, you always look beautiful. Also, I'm so sorry for your loss. 💛 This was a great video though and I appreciated you being vulnerable because loc envy is such an easy thing to fall into and it's an energy drain! These tips to combat it were fantastic.

Loc envy is so real. I had to stop myself from binge watching ladies with super thick micro locs. My locs are fine and will never be as thick and luscious so I had subscribe to women whose hair looked like mine in order to avoid insecurity

Same, it seems like the super thick locks always get pushed to the forefront. My locs are an average density, but I have definitely wished they were fuller at times.

Loc envy is definitely real...I’m almost a year loc’d and when I look at some of my loc crushes and how their hair grew leaps and bounds and mine seems like it’s almost the same length 😩 but admittedly my hair grows slow. Great video Nia!

Totally agree with you! I have thin strands, medium density. I use to have loc envy ALL the time. Even with you. Your strands are so nice and even and just looks overall healthy. I’ve been locked for 2 years and I am falling in love again with my hair. Now my envy is slowly turning into inspiration. People on the street stop me all the time to compliment my hair even when I used to be so critical and ppl at my workplace even want Sisterlocks bc they were able to see my growth. The grass is always greener. Now when I see these beautiful loc ladies, I’m just looking forward towards my journey even more.

I really didn't begin to notice the growth in my locs until a friend made a side-by-side comparison image of two pics that I sent her 3 months apart! 14 months with sisterlocks now, and I document my growth a bit more consistently. I'm enjoying the changes in my locs over time. What I envy most is that people with mature locs don't have to braid and band! I cant wait!

I will not miss this braiding and banding stage at all! But to keep my inner whining to a minimum, I remind myself that it doesn't have aaaaanything on those loose natural wash days. In some cases comparison is our friend. 😆

Loc envy is the reason why I wanted Locs. In doing my research and learning more about locs I realized that I would never have the locs that other people had. My hair journey would take me down another path. I do enjoy watching loc videos and watching their loc journeys as well. What I have learned about my locs they are doing what they should be doing based on my texture and density of MY hair. I love my locs and enjoying my journey. We all go through Loc Envy, its normal. Just never forget that our loc journeys are all different and love the journey your on. You will appreciate it later.

I follow someone on IG who started her locs 3 days before mine and I had serious loc envy because hers seemed to be growing so much faster. In fact the only thing that stopped me comparing was when she trimmed her locs shorter. Firstly because hers is now shorter than mine, but it also helped me see that length isn't the end-all be-all. That's a hard thing to shrug off in our community though.
@Niaimani92
@Niaimani92 3 жыл бұрын
So true. It is definitely not the end-all be-all, I just want it so bad though lol ! I love the way my face looks with long hair. Maybe I'll get a wig to hold me over lol. I know I love wearing your loc jewelry. It always makes me feel more confident.

Loc envy is a hard one. Most of the people I follow also started around the same time as well. I started in Feb of 2017 and I am approaching my 4 year mark. I saw most of my growth in this last year. I started with 5” of hair and looking back over the first year, my hair grew so much. Then, it was stagnant for a good year. Minimal growth. Then in the 3rd year it started to blossom. Growth is coming! My loc envy comes from the consistency in size of sisterlocks. I had a lot of bunching and so my ends are super thick compared to the length of the lock. 😔 The two people who had similar issues and locks like mine have both cut their locks. 😭 So most people I follow and am inspired by have sisterlocks similar to yours. Very uniform. I’m jealous sometimes, but most times I’m in love with my own set. Thanks for sharing.

Editing Nia, I'm here for the hair details, though you are beautiful and acceptable in both videos. I was obsessed with presenting a certain way when I started my channel and took a three year break because of it. I made 13 videos and got discouraged. I think we are harder on ourselves and assume everyone else is going to be as well.

Thank you so much! I appreciate your kindness. Unfortunately I’ve had some pretty off the wall comments that have contributed to me feeling like I should present a certain way in the app. I was more concerned with the lighting than my physical appearance. I don’t think I was clear on that. I wanted you all to know that you could still expect well lit videos from me, I just needed a little time and practice lighting the new space 😊

Wow I loved this video! I used to experience this a lot with my loose natural hair and locing my hair has really helped me get past hair envy (for now) but it’s so grounding to hear someone express that they still experience it even three years in

Thank you so much for bringing up loose natural hair into the conversation. I definitely experienced waaaaayyyy more hair envy with my loose natural hair. I guess it is nice to recognize that while I still experience hair envy, it is happening a lot less now that I am locd.

Hey Nia! When I was a loose natural I had lots of hair envy. When I decided to get sisterlocks I looked for people with similar density and texture so I could get an idea of what my hair would look like. Envy is definitely the thief of joy. I have been focusing on loving my hair and what it is capable of doing rather than comparing, but it still sneaks up on you every now and then. We are all working on being the best version of ourselves. Keep up the great work!

Your locs look great and your journey is unique. I at first when I became loc'd was always comparing my locs to other people, I was comparing my loc size and grid but I love my locs and how they look on me and my grid and loc size is perfect for my hair density. This was a great video and thank you for being so relatable and transparent.

I love your locks, my hair grows slower as well. I started with 2,3,4 and inches of hair July ,2019. To see where I am now, I say thank you Lord! I know what you mean, when you say you don't see it, I am the same way. But glad others can see it. I'm just having issue with hair not thicken up. I have 4C,but thin.. I was thinking about combining these locks that are so tiny, so they don't pop off. Also, I tried the Carol's Daughter with the Aloe.... honey I love the way my hair is feeling 😌.. Thank you 😊🤣❤

Yes, I find myself admiring women with 4c hair because their locs get themselves together much better and faster than my hair type. They also look really good, like they were made for it - they can stop banding and braiding much sooner, have less slippage and basically get to enjoying their loc journey much sooner than I ever will. I’ll be banding and braiding for decades 🙄 It’s admiration rather than envy or at least that’s what I tell myself 🙈
