I became obsessed with this guitar after I tried it in a shop, in February of 2020. I don't really need another guitar, but I went really crazy about it. After about a year of trying to be responsible and not buy it I gave up and bought the more expensive model GB10SE in June 2021. It was used and in mint condition. It is my number one guitar now :)

I have the George Benson GB10SE; got it almost a year ago. I love it! Before that, I was using an Epiphone Sheraton for my jazz guitar; I put .012 flatwounds on it and it worked really well, especially considering it's not exactly a jazz guitar. But it's been in my closet ever since I bought the Ibanez GB. When I first played it acoustically, it sounded bright and brash and I was worried until I plugged it into my Mesa/Boogie combo amp... and it sounded incredibly beautiful! I used to have a Gibson L-5 several decades ago. It sounded great, but I'm a little guy (5'5) and that axe was just too big for me. This Benson guitar is perfect for me!

I love this guitar. I was in Germany for a sabbatical year and I did not took a guitar with me, but I went nostalgic and I could not think of not playing for such a long time. So I looked for a low-priced good jazz guitar, researched a bit and then went off to a shop where they had this model. As soon as I embraced it I istantly fell in love. It's so easy to play and its tone is so soft and crispy at the same time. As I plugged it in, I went crazy: those pickups are wonderful, and they do let the guitar resonate fully, so that what you hear is a wonderful acoustic-jazzy sound. You made a great job in presenting this guitar: you highlighted all the pros and the (few) cons. I myself had to buy a gig bag, and a quite costly one since I had to bring the guitar back on a flight, so I wanted it to be safe. It's very cheap for a hollow body and it has nothing to envy in comparison with many many higher priced models. Thank you for your review and good work!

I'm not an Ibanez expert either, but I remember the guitars Ibanez was building in the late 70s, including the lawsuit models, some very original solid bodies, and, of course, the George Benson models. I remember seeing the GB models back then and wishing I could afford one. They were selling for about twice what a clean used ES-175 sold for back then. The original solid body Artist series go for big money now, as do the lawsuit jazz models. I have a lawsuit model that I recently paid about twice what the GB10 is selling for. Wow, if I knew then what I know now, I probably would have bought a GB10 instead. Sounds amazing.

I haven’t played any of the GB10 as they are sold out everywhere, however I tried a AG95QA and I fell in love with the sound and looks and brought it home. Mine has the Gibraltar bridge that helps to have a perfect intonation and the Super 58 humbuckers. I like the fact that it is 14-1/2” wide, very easy to handle. When I set the bridge pickup, it’s easy to get that vintage sound from John Lennon and his Casino. Despite of listening to George Benson and Norman Brown for ages, I was not a fan of Ibanez moreover I was upset with Pat Metheny when he started playing Ibanez in the 90’s. I changed my mind, they are superb guitars and the craftsmanship is excellent. I tried three Eastman hollow bodies but the Ibanez won for a mile. I can say I’m the proud owner of a AG95QA!

I was looking at this guitar because I like the idea of floating pickups. The one thing that turned me off was the walnut fretboard. Walnut is a hardwood but it's not as hard as rosewood, maple or even ebony. It's relatively soft. Instead I got an AF95FM with an ebony fretboard. It plays like butter and sounds like a jazz box should. I string it with D'Addario EXL110W strings with a wound 'G' string for that classic jazz tone.

Excellent honest review. I read through the comments here and did not see it asked, but aren't you supposed to take that plastic out from under the bridge that I would assume is there for shipping only in case it moved during shipping and it would not scratch the top? That will most likely change the tone I would think. Also, just to cofirm, do you think all of these models are made in Indonesia, or possibly China also?
@KrenarCilkuGuitar2 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for the kind words, Glenn! I didn't remove the plastic since it was a review guitar and it had to go back to Ibanez. I also think that it would have made a slight difference on the tone but not something you could hear through KZbin. As for as I'm aware, all GB10EM guitars are made in Indonesia. Cheers buddy!

I really enjoyed your review and opinions ....I own a Ibanez GB10SE which was made in china and its the same spec wood wise as the Japanese version apart from the fret edge treatment and my mates got an old 1980s Japanese one and apart from the fact that his is very nicely "played in" after 40 plus years mine holds itself up admirably when compared to his ....some Jazz snobs look down on the chinese version but i think is a fantastic guitar ...for the same quality guitar from Gibson you'd need about £3K at least ...mine cost 3 years ago with a hard case £950...which isn't cheap but considering how well made it is and that it will last my life time (im 53 years old) and probably whoever gets it after me......i read somewhere on the internet that someone contacted Ibanez asking for the difference between the Japanese one and the Chinese one and the reply was" they're the same spec except for one made in china and ones made on japan"...and this seems to be true comparing the spec on Ibanez website ...2nd hand ones seem to cost between 800-950 so they seem to be holding their value I suppose having a japan made one increases it resale value but mine is a keeper ...the instrument is flawless...the neck is fantastic ...the ebony fingerboard is of the highest quality...it even sounds reasonably good (for a laminate construction) unplugged although thats not how this guitar was meant to be used...although i reckon in a mix it would make an interesting rhythmic texture when strummed unplugged ....Every time i open the case to get it out i think it looks like a really expensive classy guitar ......i use mine for finger style jazz standards and i have to agree with your assessment of the bridge pick up ...i rarely use the bridge pick up unless im doing some early rock n roll chuck berry type stuff ..or some johnny Marr type jangly stuff where i reckon it could out jangle a Rickenbacker. 330..then again to be fair so can a strat or Tele...lets be straight ...you buy a Ricky because A) they look so flipping cool and B.) because you can afford it lol..(i cannot afford one although owned one 30 years ago and never quite gelled with it as i was a strat man at heart ....i think though thats because i set up my amp ( a roland JC22 jazz chorus ) that i use specifically for this guitar dialled in for a mellow very clean jazz sound ...actually though i use mainly the middle setting as i find the combined pickups give a warm tone with a little clarity from the bridge .... These guitars are very under rated......I think the entire George Benson range is equal to any other brand of this type of guitar and im amazed more players dont use them....in a way i think it suffers from the same thing the Brian May Guitar brand ( i own one of these as well and its also one of the most well made and versatile guitars you can buy for the money ) in as much that George is such an iconic player that people think if you play his guitars you're copying his style but its far more than just that ...........buy one today....youll not regret it...

Thank a lot for the lovely video. "Linde" is a famous tree in Germany - people often meet in the romantic times under the Linde. In History every little cottage has a meeting point under the Linde. Sorry bout my English - hope it is ok. Here comes a famous poetic verse from 1827 Text Wilhelm Müller, Music: Franz Schubert about the Linde tree. German : Linde - translation: Lime Tree Greetings from Hamburg ! At the well before the gate a lime tree stands I dreamt in its shade so many sweet dreams upon its bark I carved there so many words of love drawn from joy and suffering ( I was forever drawn to it) I had to walk today near the tree in deepest night and though it was dark I closed my eyes And your branches rustled calling to me come to me young man - (here you will find your peace) The cold winds blew straight into my face my hat flew from my head but I remained standing there Now, though I be many hours away from that place

My only complaint about Ibanez guitars is they, like all Asian guitar companies, use way too much decorative doodads which makes the guitars look cheap in my opinion. (I hate abalone !!) They do the same thing with car and motorcycle designs as well. This guitar has alot of potential considering the price. They also make an ASF73FM that I kinda like and an older cherry double cut with simple dot inlays that looks great and sells for cheap.

Is there a center block under the bridge and pickups? I have an Ibanez AF-55 and it has a piece of wood running along the underside of the top plate all the way from the neck to the tailpiece or end pin. To me it's not a true Hollow Body Archtop Guitar because of that. It's a semi-hollowbody, yet they call it a Full Hollow Body. True the wooden center block only runs under the top plate and does not reach all the way to the bottom plate like most center blocks do. Meaning their is an air gap. Still, it;s there and it's not fully hollow!

That's alright, different strokes for different folks! Check out the new anniversary model that came out for George Benson, the red GB10SEFM, I bet you'll like that, cheers!

What do you mean you don't even know what Linden is? Wouldn't it make sense to learn about an instrument's attributes before posting a review???

Hey there! I keep things honest around here, I jumped in front of the camera and must have forgotten about that fact. Moreover, I actually don't get paid for any of this, I just love doing what I do and it happens that you might forget a thing or two sometimes...I believe someone in the comment section already did mention that Linden is basically the same thing as Basswood. I love how people use the comment section to add value to the video. Cheers buddy!
