He does and the next thing ya know they're years into a marriage hating each other and praying for the end of time. The performance is iconic, and the girl in the video is Karla DeVito who did tour with Meatloaf, but in this video she is synced to the original vocal by Ellen Foley.

Best reaction ever!!!👊 PLEASE keep going with Meatloaf, he was a gem as an artist and a human being!!!🤗My recommendation for your next exposure to the greatness of Meatloaf is "I'd Do Anything for Love (but I won't do that)". The song on its own is STUNNING but the official music video will give you a clearer picture of who Michael was and what he was about. He was a gentle soul (albeit a little naughty too!😅). Anyway, great freaking reaction!!! The shock and awe on your face the moment Meat Loaf opened his mouth and started singing... PRICELESS!!! That look never left your face throughout the whole music video! But the look of confusion was the part that had me in stitches!!! Thanks for that!!!😜🤣😂🤣 Peace and light...💞

Meat Loaf got his start on Broadway , he played the lead role in the original Broadway hit Jesus Christ Superstar, and then took off when he played the role of Eddy in The Rocky Horror Picture Show... In early 1978 living in San Francisco we got tickets for the Bat Out Of He'll tour, it was the best concert we had seen, what you saw in the video he did it live. After the show we found out the tour was heading up the coast to Portland Oregon and then Seattle. We made some calls up to both cities and bought tickets to both shows.. It was incredible. Also when they were shopping the demo tapes to get a record contract, Every record label turned them down many twice. And the rest is history...... Over 100 million in sales and still going strong!!!!!!!!

Before "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" film, there was the live musical 'The Rocky Horror Show". The production was successful in Los Angeles, but flopped when it came to Broadway. In the musical, Meat Loaf played the dual roles of both Eddie and the narrator Dr. Scott.

Jim Steinman was the songwriter and producer who created the whole Bat Out of Hell oeuvre, and he and Meatloaf made a great team, indeed. Paradise by the Dashboard Light is a track from the original Bat Out of Hell album. To help promote the song, the studio invested in the making of the video you just watched. This was still several years before the birth of MTV, and music videos with high production values were rare. Meatloaf was also an actor and a veteran of musical theater. He was a member of the L.A. cast of the tribal rock musical Hair. Later, he acted on the big screen with notable roles in several films, including Fight Club and The Rocky Horror Picture Show. RIP to a great artist.
@macmcgee51162 жыл бұрын
About his stage presence... I saw in an interview years ago where Meatloaf talked about what it was like backstage after one of his shows. He would quite literally walk off stage and just fall to the ground from exhaustion. He would lay there for a long period of time just trying to breathe. It became so normal to everyone that they would just step over him if they needed to. But for people seeing it for the first time, they would go into a panic thinking he was dying. After a while, he would finally get up and go about his business. Then do it all again the next night.

Did you ever hear about getting to 1st base, 2nd base and 3rd base, home run with a girl? That's what the baseball ⚾️ reference meant. He wants sex and she won't unless he loves her and makes a commitment.
@billsager56342 жыл бұрын
Ellen Foley performed the vocals for the album, but as I stated, she had other professional commitments, thus could not tour with Meat Loaf, hence you see Karla De Vito in the videos. Karla toured with Meat Loaf to support the Bat Out Of Hell album. Ellen Foley also did one season the of the TV show Night Court. Meat Loaf was very theatrical. He was a large man (over 300 pounds when the album was released) and often worked so hard during performances, he needed to take oxygen breaks. As for the meaning of the song - very basic - teenage love. Two 17-year-old teens, in a car at "make out point", with the boy trying to get to second base, third base, and home (hence the baseball scenes). The girl stops short when the boy reaches home and demands a commitment. The boy says he needs to sleep on it - but he still wants the sex. After arguing back and forth, the boy commits, promises to marry the girl. Fast forward to later in life, the boy & girl, now older adults - who hate each other - but won't break their vows, so they are praying for the end of time, to end their time together. Something you don't see in modern music - music which tells a story!

These performers are actually from musical theater and are actor/singers. Check out the "Bat Out of Hell" album.

I remember sitting in the car listening to this for the first time when it was new with my mouth hanging open., and laughing. It is a true cautionary tale. Meatloaf did many other things as asinger and as an actor, but his work with Jjm Steinman is true brilliance. Meatloaf said for every song he did, there was a character singing, and you can tell. Everyone who knew him referred to him as Meat, not by his given name. Try the songs "Bat Outa Hell", " I Would do Anything for Love" (Listen carefully at the beginning of the song to understand what he is talking about on that one, because he won`t repeat it. It is there though.) "Two Outa Three Ain't Bad" though that is a tough song IMO and whatever else people suggest. He was an amazing performer.

The look on your face is priceless. Lol. The story is about teen lovers making out in their car by the light from the dashboard. Maybe kids don’t make out in cars any more. In the 70’s car were a lot bigger. 😅 The baseball play by play is an old analogy about how far you could get with a girl on a date. Each base was a little farther… obviously making it all the way to home plate… well you get it now. In the story she stops him just short of the act and wants him to make a life long commitment to her. In their passion they both commit to stay together for all time… to the end of time. It proves to be a mistake as they really did not have anything beyond the passion of the moment, but they will not turn back on swearing to commit until the end of time… so the only way out for them is for the end of time to hurry up and arrive so they can fulfill their commitment to stay together until the end of time. It is a parody and a clever joke and warning to young lovers. You got another subscriber. 😊

Meat was one of Jack Black's idols. He would have absolutely LOVED your reaction. That is exactly the reaction he was going for, he wanted people to hear it and just HAVE to show it to everyone they knew. Everything he did was epically clever. He also played Eddie in Rocky Horror Picture Show, out of Denton Texas.

Meat Loaf was a virtual force of nature when he got going- his voice and stage presence is already sorely missed. It's okay, man- when others of us discovered Meat Loaf for the first time we had that same blank stare and open mouth look, too :D

Actual live concert performance. It's called Rock Opera and Meatloaf was the king of Rock Opera.

Jim Steinman wrote for others, too. Check out the video version of Total Eclipse of the Heart by Bonnie Tyler. He also wrote Air Supply's Making Love Out of Nothing. Steinman's songs were a genre of their own.

And back when this was recorded, we had a dashboard light specifically to read thru 8-track tapes to pick your next choice.... All those fancy lights on the dash didn't exist back then. Just a basic lit up dash with speedometer and gas gauge lit up.

Welcome to Rock Opera. Meatloaf was the master and G.O.A.T.

You know what the people didn't wanna? Listen to Freddie, Mercury and Queen. Because they thought the opera thing was too much but he did it anyway
