As a fan of the Chili Peppers since Uplift Mofo Party Plan, I'm honestly surprised at their longevity. Their best album, imo, is Blood Sugar Sex Magic. But it's really special how they have adapted and grown through the years.

The song, written by songwriter B. A. Robertson and Mike Rutherford, was inspired by Mike and B.A. realizing their fathers had died around the same time (Robertson's 11 days before his son was born), and they later learned singer Paul Carrack's father had died when he was young (11), as well. The video was filmed in October 1988 and features Mike Rutherford with his then-eight-year-old son, Tom. The naval officer in the photo near the beginning is Mike's father Bill Rutherford, who was Gunnery Officer of HMS Revenge in 1940, and was a staff gunnery specialist in King George V in the final Bismarck battle.

I love that you do research online within your video on the song or the artist, and it teaches all of us more about each song or performer. You make this all very interesting, and your reaction to the songs is very moving also. It is so great that you are listening to music of what I call the great era of American music - the mid '50s thru the mid '80s. This song is about the old wild west, not anything current. The story is possibly based on a real event. The Wild West was soon after the Civil War, approximately 1870-1895. Many of the 'bad' guys during this period in our history were ex soldiers of the Confederacy. They did not know what to do after the end of the Civil War, and were angry in losing the war, and often became criminals. Billy the Kid was a typical example. I also offered you a copy of my history on the US, an ebook I am working on now, and hope to finish it by mid 2025. I have completed 125 pages already (I am in the middle of WW II - 1943), and it covers the complete US history, staring in 1607, the first settlement that remained, and will go to today. I had mentioned this to you in my comments to your 'The Ballad of the Alamo' reaction video, in that you did not know the significance of the Alamo, or what it was. There have been many movies made about the battle of the Alamo, so I recommend that when you have the time, that you watch one of these. One of the best is the version with John Wayne as Davy Crockett. Also, in case you do not know what an eBook is, it is a book that is only in digital form, and that there is no hard bound book. My history eBook has tons of links to online websites so you can research many of the noteworthy names or events throughout our history more thoroughly. My goal is that eventually this ebook will be used in schools, and will teach most Americans about our VERY interesting history, the good with the bad (like slavery and its aftermath with racism). I also try to relate specific events in our history, and how this relates to why many things are the way they are today. I feel this is the key missing issue as to why most people are not interested in learning history in general, not just American history. If you are interested, just respond, and I will let you know how to get my US history ebook when it is done. Or email me at [email protected].

Man, I really appreciate your passion and authenticity. Your reactions are so organically driven from the soul. It’s funny Boss, we live in this world, where we are constantly divided, labeled and subjugated by the powers that be in order to suppress and control the masses to serve at the will of the ultra elite and powerful. They do not want us untied as people. They want to keep the wool pulled over our eyes. Just look at the election media machine on both sides of the coin. Bro, Humanity is so far away from what it could be. Certain artist see this divide and the reasons why then use their voice and talents to transcend that limitation and bridge the gap between us all. The gap that has been artificially installed throughout the ages from the earliest formation of our lives. It’s then propagated to us at a continuous hum and drum beat on a daily basis in order to keep us from awakening and uniting as people to change this world from what it currently is…into what it should be for all races, colors and creeds. Unity lives in the groove my man…more than anywhere else in this world…They can never take that away from the people.

Great song to react to! I had recommended this song to you, along with El Paso, which I see you have reacted to as well. How nice! This song is close to me because I own a big western revolver and the western holster, and I use to quick draw, and got pretty good at it..Marty Robbins was so great, and almost all of his songs are so enticing! I love that you are researching and listening to these great songs of long ago, when I grew up.

I saw Focus last week in London (10 Nov 2024) and they're still great. Menno Gootjes on guitar is very nearly as good as Jan Akkerman (who I'm going to see in London in February). Thijs van Leer still yodels at the age of 76 and Pierre van der Linden is a phenomenal drummer especially as he is now 79. Moving Waves was the first album I bought. I'd bought the single Sylvia because my piano teacher had been at the studio when they recorded it and played it to me on a reel to reel tape player. Excellent band and that was one of a very few performances on Midnight Special that got a standing ovation at the end.

Art said much later he did not refuse to sing the song. He said he didn't know how that got started. He loved the song since Paul wrote it for his voice. After it came out Paul said he wish he song it, he was jealous of all the attention Art recieved. It would not be the hit it was if Paul sang it.

I have been to the Alamo since my brother lived in San Antonio. Your reaction is very nice, and honest. I really loved your reaction to the greatest female vocalist of all time - Linda Ronstadt singing Blue Bayou. Your reaction there was very touching. Listen more of her, and you will find a lot of her rock songs, which you seem to prefer. It is so nice someone of your age is listening tot he great music of the '60s-'80s. I find today's music (past 25-30 years) to be very blase. Maybe it is designed to be played via MG3 over tiny little speakers or a cell phone, and hence no dynamics or fidelity. I have a state of the art home theater, where really good music sounds like you are there! Anyway, go react toe Marty Robbins 'Big Iron' and 'El Paso'. While these are somewhat similar, their story is quite different, essentially opposites, and while not really historical, like the Ballad of the Alamo is, they reflect the wild, wild west quite a bit. I own a western style revolver, and a western holster, and I use to quick draw with it as well. So, these ballads hit home with me quite a bit. On another note,if you ever make it to Houston, the tallest stone monument in the US is there, and at its base is a museum of the fight og the Texas rebellion from Mexico in 1836. There is quite a bit about the Alamo in this museum, as well as about Santa Anna's defeat right there at that site, also in 1836. Also, it appears that since you did not know the significance of 'The Alamo', I conclude that you, and many Americans in general, do not know much about the history of the greatest country the world has ever seen. So, I have taken a project on by myself to write a short, but complete history of the US. It starts at the very first British landing that remained, which was in 1607 in Virginia (not Plymouth Rock), and it will go to today, and Trump's re-election (ugh!!!). I have 125 pages already, and I am in the middle of WW II. I hope to finish it in the next 6 months. If you are interested, please respond, and I can send you an early copy. I think I will release in PDF form, and it is an eBook, which means that there is no hard copy, and you read it on the computer. It has hundreds of online links if you choose to read more detail about the many events and historical people. Respond here, for anyone, and I will give you on how o contact me, ether thru my website, or to me directly to my email.

Sorry, just found you; so, I’m late to the Comment Section! I’m a 68 y/o Glamma. You seem to enjoy the background of things. And, I’m a Trivia sponge, so here goes: FUN FACTS FIRST: The kisses are for his Mom who was watching him on Television. MATTER OF FACTS: They had just completed a Tour a month b4. So, they went & rented a Stadium to practice the performance. He ended up with a Throat Infection & the Doctor highly recommended he not do it bc he might lose his musical ability. He said no! Can you tell he had a severe throat infection? Most people think he was drinking booze from the cups bc on the piano. He’s drinking Honey & Tea. His command of the Audience was more than coincidence it was miraculous. Considering there were so many people there the sound was getting absorbed through them. So the people @ the back we’re following his hand gestures bc the actual sound hadn’t even reached them b4 the next sound was coming @ them. Go back & watch what his hands are doing & what the Audience is doing. NEXT: Radio Gaga is celebrating Radio bc M-TV is just getting started. LADY GAGA was a huge Freddie Fam growing up, so That was where she came up with HER STAGE NAME! You have to listen to the words to really understand the meaning. Most of us didn’t have a clue what a Band looked like unless we saw them in Person! NEXT-MICROPHONE. At sometime along the way a Microphone Stand broke, so that was the only spilt second solution they could come up with. He realized the freedom he had to move, dance, & engage the Audience. NEXT MICHAEL JACKSON & ELVIS CONNECTION on Song THIS THING CALLED LOVE: It was written as his homage to Elvis-Freddie was a big fan. But, he just wasn’t sure about the song bc he didn’t want to taint Elvis. SO, he played it for Michael J. (Yes, they were friends!). And Michael told him he HAD TO, he said “Freddie, you have to”! (Can’t you just see that!?). NEXT FREDDIE’s VOICE. HE HAD 4 extra teeth so that’s the reason he had such an overbite. He had the ability to naturally flow from Octave to Octave. It was a natural progression, for him. SCIENTIFICALLY: Test were done on his Voice. He was able to use his Throat muscles on either side of his vocal cords. Which is normally seen in some Opera Singers. His Vocal Range was from Low Bass F, to High Soprano F! They were extremely surprised to find out that he could go from about 92Hz to 784Hz, effortlessly! See ACTUAL REPORT BELOW: nyone who has listened to a Queen track knows that Freddie has a unique ability that still has not been truly replicated since. His ability to blend highs, lows and mid range notes cohesively and with immense precision. This skill was due to the fact that Freddie was able to create faster vibrato and harmonics than any other singer at the time. Not only this, he was able to shift through registers effortlessly. Although he naturally held a baritone voice, he primarily sang as a tenor and of course had no problem then shifting into soprano parts. One study on Freddie’s vocal range even confirmed that he was able to vary from about 92.2 Hz to 784 Hz, meaning he was reliably able to hit notes from the booming low of F#2 to the high pitch G5 - that covers a full three octaves! LEAD GUITARIST: Brian May, is playing on a Guitar he & his Father made. When he first starting to learn they were too poor to afford a high end guitar. So, they just made one! They made out of an old cabinet his mother was going to throw awayThe included some “extras” that would normally have to be separate instruments to get all those features (think Concerts when you see guitarist changing Guitars depending on the Song….that’s why he didn’t)! I’m sorry to take up your Valuable Time, and I thank you. You need anymore Trivia I’m your G’Ma go to. My Brain is full, especially with music! LAST INTERESTING INFO: When he is waving his arm it is to tell the cameramen which way he is going bc he’s moving around so much. When he kicks his legs backwards that is getting over all the cables, that are on the Stage. TV Cameras were not cordless back in the day!! And, “We Will Rock You”, is actually a Prelude to “We Are The Champions”. (It is really all 1 Song!) You just, truly, saw “ The Greatest Show On Earth!” Brian May said that Freddy, in practice sessions. But, that he knew what the Audience wanted. I worked out quite well…wouldn’t you say?! He turned the whole Audience in to his backup Singers!!

To quote john kennon " before elvis there was nothing " the man kicked the door down for rhythm blurs & gospels that this country wouldnt touch. Hr also really was the first artist where teens were heard not seen plus its horrifying how that manager kept him in vegas like a drugged up animal b_c he was a degrnerate gambler elvis wanted to tour outside the u.s. but b/c this creep couldnt he kept elvis in the states elvis wanted to make a real film was offered parts in serious films the col. Said no. Then when elvis tries to leave the creep sued him. Plus his dad remarried 2 min after poor gladys died. He also never touch Priscilla again once she got pregnant b/c now he only saw her as a mom to his baby girl so she became sacred like his mom. His mom loved him so much & he worshipped her esp hos twin brother dying she actualled followed him everyday 10 steps behind b/c she alwaus was twrrified of losimg her other son. Just on a note how crazy elvis had a identical twin! They say twins never lose that nond primally in the womb. Lisa marie said he was the greatest dad ever she said he def spoiled her but then again elvis gave cats & houses to strangers staff whoever. What a blessed soul. Lastly the black community loved him while the white community of parents & old people hayed him b/c " he gace their kids udeas about devil ways " what ignorance but elvis helped to change all that 21 year old kid on ed sullivan forget it.
