Regarding 1:30, The method to remove red copper spots from gold is to get a glass container and cover its bottom with Aluminum foil. Put in some Baking Soda over the Aluminum foil and pour in some boiling hot water to dissolve the Baking Soda. Then use Coin Tongs to carefully place the gold into the hot solution on top of the Aluminum foil. The red copper spots on the gold will be dissolved. In chemistry, this is known as an Oxidation-Reduction reaction. Use the Coin Tongs to remove the gold and rinse it off with clean water.

Just speculating, but perhaps the copper spots are from the cleaning and annealing process? If there were copper ions in the cleaning solutions they may deposit on the surface of the coin. I know copper will plate onto steel in a copper sulfate solution, no electricity needed. Very thin copper plating may not be noticed on the planchettes. Even with the spots it is a beautiful coin.

A sigma works great for larger coins. You get scattering if they're smaller and incorrect results if you do it the standard way. The right way is to use the small wand with the calibration disk backing up the coin. Great video.

I think the counterfeiters are more likely to copy government issued coins rather than those produced by private mints. People are generally more comfortable buying government issued precious metals (especially gold) than those produced by private mints.

For thin gold pieces, either use the small wand that is provided with this PMV, or use the calibrator and place the coin on the calibration piece. Its stated on the PMV manual.

I hope to return the favor: get yourself a calibration weight (preferably a 100gram, but a 50gram will do). Last time I purchased one it was $5-$10 (although it has been a few years). Whether you’re in a LCS or weighing your coins and bullion, or at home; you can check the accuracy of w/e digital scale that you are using.

Very cool little round! Kind of surprising that it would have copper spots on it - maybe they are just surface contamination. I always use the smallest size wand and the aluminum backing disc with any coin or round that doesn't cover the entire target circle on the Sigma.

Just shows you need to know how to use your equipment in accordance with the instructions. I dont think you would have any problem liquidating that. They would probably add it to the scrap gold and send it in for refining. You probably won't get spot, but that's normal. When they are buying back PM's. They have to make a profit. 🤟👍🙏🙏🙏

It's a nice little piece have to be careful when buying because there's lot of fakes out there of various coins and bars plus people mislead you on the purity of your gold item you might be buying so that's also something people have to worry about

Just toss it in the ceramic crucible and use a little borax remove the copper

With pure gold you just use a propane torch to heat it up a little bit then put it in water. The copper spotting will disappear with the heat. If using a map gas torch be carful not to heat too much as it has a much hotter flame than propane, you don’t need much heat to have good results.

Geez Sal. It weighs 1/10 and tests .9999 after you learned how to use your Sigma properly with the wand for smaller pieces. Why couldnt it be resold? And why would that be any indication of that mint going out of business?

It could but it might be harder and cause more questions than known coins. That's the point. That is likely part of what contributed to that mint going out of business. How often do you see privately issued gold rounds? Not often.

Sal my mother bought 10 oz of fake 2024 silver eagles she willy-nilly went on Facebook and bought probably through eBay you know the rest of the story it sucks I could tell immediately that the coins were fake just by looking at him and of course the magnet test sealed the deal😒
