I was about to post the same thing. Just as an example (using rough measurements) if you are using a standard 1/4 inch blade, and the bar length is 10 inches, every 40 cuts you are losing an entire bar of silver. Edit: I also see a lot of possible process optimizations that would save a lot of time. For example, when thinning them out @4:20 - build a small slide to let the bars slide down into a soft collection bin, then run all of the bars through back-to-back This way, you are only touching the height adjuster on your machine 1 time on each level for the entire batch, instead of 1 time for each level of each bar.

The pricing at the end of various silver weights in various denominations is interesting, but when the SHTF and we might need to trade silver on the street to buy daily necessities,... in my view this is why buying good old 90% US silver coins is the way to get the most silver per dollars spent. And another factor is these are easily recognized and trusted as to content, so there is never a need to have the coins tested between daily trades. After all, THIS is how it was when they were minted! There have even been times where the premiums were so low you could buy 90% US silver coin (AKA "Junk" silver) at actual spot pricing. Sometimes with uncirculated coins in a batch you can even get a bit more silver than bargained for, as the accepted average silver content reflects a little moderate wear facter down to 0.715 troy ounces per $1.00 face value. (either $1 silver dollar, two half dollars, four quarters, or ten dimes) Those uncirculated coins in a bag of 90% US coin were minted containing 0.723 troy ounce of actual silver per dollar in face value! Interesting to note when I used to go to a refiner 20+ years ago in New Jersey (Heraeus) they bought 90% US coin by WEIGHT, and not face count. But they we usually had 10 to 20 $1,000 face bags each of 90% silver to add to the stores trading account. So in fairness to everyone you got paid for wehat you "HAD", not what was in the Average Count. YMMV 🙂

1/4 oz rounds are tough for details when you're taking a photo and turning it into a die. Have you thought about buying blank 1 oz rounds and stamping those? It takes a bit of the DIY out of your rounds, but would give you more surface area for photos-to-dies, so you'd get more detail.

Annealing should be done without quenching. Quenching hardens. Air cool next time and see if it is softer for working. Harden the coins after working the metal and before tumbling and polishing. Hope this helps.
@BB-gb2eq3 күн бұрын
That is a great idea to make it easier to work, but wouldn't that also be prone to warping the metal instead of keeping it flat for a better stamping surface on the metal. I do like to see suggestions on making it easier and more efficient, but also like to see the superb finished product they have created. ✌️

I disagree, it's iron carbon compounds in Steel that hardens on quenching. I don't think gold silver and copper quenching hardens in the same way.

If you knew/know how muck energy is required to produce the detail you prefer on the coin, you could get a hydraulic press ( air over hydraulic) and know how much force is required to press the coins, making less muscle, but creating more (girl power) energy to produce more coins. Great video, amazing production facility!!
@RockyMountainBear21 сағат бұрын
That's really cool that you get to do that with your family. Why not just melt those really thick bars & pour them into a mold, so you start the rolling process a bit closer to your target thickness? Cutting them like that results in a lot of waste, no matter how well you collect the dust. That little bit of waste adds up really quickly. It would probably save your mill a ton of wear & tear. It would also save you a bunch of time & money spent on gas used to anneal the bars so many times. That much rolling also puts a lot of stress on the silver, which can weaken with crystalline structure of the metal.

Its a cool way to support a creator, but know that you're WAY overpaying. I priced this out at $156 USD after shipping cost (To Northern USA). Reputable online dealers are around $100USD with free shipping for well known 1/4 oz rounds. Save even more if you can buy whole ounces, fractional always comes with a higher mark up.

Some free advice to do with as you will. Your kiddos should be wearing respirators anytime someone is sanding or grinding in that shop. or invest in a central filtration system that can clean all the air (Cubic Feet) of that building every 30 seconds, so the units CFM rating should be double the cubic feet of the structure as calculated from the exterior footprint. It's not lead but it's still a heavy metal and silver oxide is not good for the lungs. A $20-30 3M respirator could save them from incurring big medical bills later.
