just picked up my second in my life 97 twin 85hp. wish mine was in this nice a shape LOL. 2800. 120 compression all cylinders. engine mount plate bolts backing out. what a pain. I dint pull the engine just got to it underneath. Might need the driveshaft alignment tool after.

I was hesitant to go to the dual engine given the hassle in keeping one motor running right, let alone 2. Though double power sure would be nice. Let me know how it goes!

If oil is leaking into the combustion chambers, that isn't normal and probably needs new inner crank seals. After they're replaced you wont have that problem anymore.

Where does that oil line go to ? I just got one and replaced the starter and it turns but makes rough noises. I'm a car mechanic but don't know if I should taking the engine apart.

As with any boat, regular maintenance can really help. Looks for signs of neglect, boats are expensive enough without having maintenance issues

bomb barded if you don't have gas premixed oil injection in 96-99 didnt do so well was service department full of new boats getting new motor from the factory$0.000 and not ever supposed to start 2 stroke with either unless wd40 or pistons would scratch the hell outta cylinders as i already said it's been sitting around with water in cylinders 🤯 just know for future and i learned that way a experienced 2stroke gurus said keep doing that in a year you will need engine i figured was better than wearing out starters and he said i would but you can just take the starter off & if it is under warranty don't cost you but few minutes and if you want to get it to start up right away when you get spark plugs don't by 2 get few sets as in an oil burner your plug can dry out and not having to throw out in motorcycle racing you see the plugs coming out as soon as its in the pits and the motors not got any oil in there and now 4 strokes are fuel. injected they are just as fast a lap but they are on 450s not 250$ as 4 strokes have even taken out 2 stroke boat motor as king and nowadays they have Yamaha 5.3 v8 and yes same 5.3 half ton Chevy truck has just put lower unit and not a transmission and not being carbed it just really needs way to keep oil in place but as 2 stroke owner that isn't a diesel so don't treat it like one 👍🤞

Kicking around the idea of buying a 99 Speedster SK with twins in it. Should that be something to worry about like you said in video one motor is enough to worry about is it just looking for trouble buying the twin?

A lot of people have had great results with them, so cant say dont buy. Just in my opinion, especially not being super knowledgeable on boats (very handy with car) seemed like a conservative route. I think if it's all in good service the dual are fine

Unfortunately I did not do much with the carb on this. These engines were used in a number of jet boats and jet skis so should be some great repair videos on youtube. Have fun out on the water!

What are the 2 gauges you have I just looked at a 1995 seadoo sportster going go trade my boat for it and it only has 2 gauges I forgot to look to see what they were

It only has a fuel gauge, which is centered directly in front of the steering wheel. There is a spot for a 2nd gauge on the storage lid, however, it just has a factory plug.

Mine has used less gas than I expected. My usage has not been consistent to give you a good ratio but last time we were out on water about 2 hours and burned through around 4 gallons. But that involved times to get tubers ready and such.

Agreed! Or put in shutoffs. Previous owner did not know this. Past few winters I've had it, no issue starting right up in the spring. Good maintenance = good runner.

I got a boat and it's pretty much like yours, my problem is that I can't go about 15 mph and it revs around 4500 and when I give it more throttle it will rev high but the speed won't increase, do you have any idea on what can be wrong with it?

If it is running smooth and just doesn't have speed, niles828 is probably right. I'd inspect the impeller for damage and wear ring. If it runs rough or acting like a Rev limiter above half throttle, we actually just started to have a similar problem with this boat. Found to be one of two things (based on my research): 1.) neutral safety switch in shift assembly could be dirty and getting stuck closed (or open depending on model) which falsely tells the computer that you are still in neutral and limits your REVs. 2.) you may have a bad voltage rectifier (which also functions as a voltage regulator). Ours has visible burn marks and tests to have over the 14.5V DC that should be measured. I could be completely off for your boat, so let google be your friend, this is just what I have found on my boat to be common causes for the symptoms.

Lol, nah! I think it's possible someone before could have been having to much fun! They wouldn't make the engineering that crap from factory with the oil!!!! They do hydro lock because because do all sorts of stupid with them! You have to blow out the water if it dunks or floods
