I definitely did and I did some weird things especially with my 12 inch figures, i have a Gabriella from xena with an omega red tentacle and some adult details added and I loved to make cyborg arms and legs for them too.

One toy I wish I still had was my Shogun Warriors Daimos.I sold it at a Philadelphia Comic Con or Comic Fest in 93 or 94 for 50 bucks. He was in beautiful condition with box and all his missles.I kick myself now for doing that.I would love to still have him to display.

“For ten years old” those are awesome! I think the figures might worth more as Bobby Vala Originals than as their originals. Celebrate your true start to your toy design journey!

Honestly seeing how you customize toys as a kid just shows how much love you had for toys as a kid. We never cared much about the value of toys as a kid. We only cared about how we played with them.

Very awesome. I remember when I was 12 years old. I had the toybiz wolverine brown suit that had the spring loaded claws. So I wrapped him completely in aluminum foil and made a cardboard surfboard and pretty much made a custom wolverine Harald of Galactus figure.

As a kid, I took all my Star Wars toys apart to build other things. I destroyed my brother's 12" Gi Joe talking Marine to see what made it talk. So...alot of my toys were remade into other things. There value as a collectable fell to there value as fuel for my imagination. Great video!

A figure that was altered as a kid is not a custom. That’s pure innocent imagination at its peak.

when i was a child i never understood how terminator, predator, and aliens had kids toys when those movies were clearly not for kids. Did that stop me from getting them and watching the movies? heck no lmao

I wasn't into custom figures as a kid, oddly enough since I was pretty hardcore into drawing and comic book artist making. I am one of those collectors who has a lot from my childhood. I had some broken things, as I played with my stuff, too. A good portion of my "play" was also the collecting and keeping of things as good as I could. Super fun video!

It's amazing how we can pick something as obscure as Super Shredder's belt out of a box of random parts and remember exactly what it was 30 odd years later. I think I put Stryfe's arm on my Marvel Super Heroes Dr. Doom and glued a rubber Mr. Fantastic fist onto it in my quest to do away with the Power Driven action feature. That was more of a repair than a custom though.

I have quite a few things from my childhood…still missing a lot, though. I know Mom went through and cleaned house a few times after asking us to pick our shit up, lol. Who knows what I’d still have today if we had just listened to her!

Definitely a TMNT backpack and gun set; it belonged to "Scumbug". You're missing the black tubing connecting the gun to the backpack.

My dad just found a suitcase up in his attic. I hid stuffed with toys. Can't wait to see what treasure I "buried". I'm hoping my G1 Megatron and Shockwave are in there. Or Voltron cats. All my GI Joe's we turned into Freddy Kruegers, Jason Vorheezs, Michael Myers, etc., etc. Hope some of them are in there. We'll see soon...

I didn't do much customizing to create new characters because there just wasn't good enough paints at the time. But I was a goddamn surgeon when it came to repairing my G.i. Joes who broke thumbs, fingers, or crotches over the years. My favorite was when I had to replace both of Dukes arms because he lost a thumb on one hand and his fingers on the other. Gave him those jacked Muskrat arms so he got quite an upgrade. I would routinely change out Chuckles and Snake Eyes heads when I wanted an unmasked variant.

Remember that 1st episode of cartoon batman? That big bat with wings was in the 1st episode. The artwork was so good at the time for cartoons. also your mom had some nerve even asking u if u wanted your old toys. Time to have a sit down with mom huh?

I don't think I ever did much customizing as a kid, though I know my mom & I replaced Splinter's gi with a paper towel gi a time or 2 lol. I got into customizing a bit with the Christopher Nolan Batman trilogy's Movie Masters line in my early 20s. They didn't do very many figures for that line so I worked on a few of my own but was usually too scared I'd ruin the original figures to follow through with the designs all the way. I did make a young Officer Gordon & began work on a sleeveless Bane & Bruce Wayne in a suit. I also had plans for a Joseph Gorden Levitt Robin- hopefully one day I'll take the plunge & finish all these off. I think the value of that line has come down a lot over the years, so it shouldn't be so nerve racking haha. Recently, I've really enjoyed the mix & match functionality of MOTU Origins & its related lines. Really easy & fun to make your own designs with them, and even the parts that aren't made to come apart are pretty easily swappable with a little hot water.

A lifetime ago, when I moved outta home and across the other side of the country, Mum gave away 98.7% of my childhood toys to my nephews and nieces. But she protected my Star Wars figures and collector cases + my G1 Transformers like her life depended on it. My sister's tried their hardest to prise those toys from her. Greedy bitches had no chance. Mum was STAUNCH 😆
