Such as Khabib, who has the most padded record ever and only defeated 5 memorable opponents. Not to take anything away from Khabib, he's a good fighter and has some of the highest fight IQ I've ever seen, but you're acting as if every last one of their professional fights are in the UFC. Khabib had 13 fights in the UFC, which is around where everyone else would get a title shot if undefeated. Stop acting like there isn't bias, and don't even try to act like Islam beat Volk. Even if we go by damage alone without control time, Islam won, because medical professional found that Volk was more damaged by suspending him for a month while Islam only gets 2 weeks. Islam bruised & Volk got cut and bled. All strikers can keep crying. @@autismoid i disagree. Its been a while since i saw the fight but the only thing that stood out for me when it came to volk was his great defensive wrestling and then the last seconds of the fifth. For islam i remember him wobbling volk multiple times and getting a take down and maintaining back control (although he didnt do much with it). I believe some people let the crowd get to them because volk couldve picked his nose and the crowd wouldve went wild.

Agreeeeeed, we need to reform the criteria so fighters aren’t rewarded for laying on top of someone to keep the fight tied up at a standstill for “control time.” In my opinion control time is irrelevant unless paired with effective ground and pound or legitimate submission attempts (not just half-assing failed attempts) So taking a fighters back just to sit there and catch your breath while he’s unable to strike or effectively fight is not impressive or a sign of progress in the fight. More accountability needs to be placed on the judges and we need the proper criteria correctly taught to them. While he’s not a better fighter than Volk, I’ll give him that he was smart enough to take a compromising position when he “controlled” Volk so the ref couldn’t separate them when he did nothing with said position.

A fighter’s ability to lay of top of someone is not a factor of skill, if you’re not progressing in that position to work your opponent then you’re not doing any more than stalling the fight. Why do you think refs stand fighters up? And what is it the ref says before he stands them up? “I need you to work.” Laying on someone is irrelevant to the fight itself, if you’re dominantly controlling on the ground, laying strikes or submission attempts then you are actively moving the match forward and “putting points on the board.” But to lay on someone just to prevent the fight from happening is not conducive to a professional combat sports athlete.

That’s hyperbolic 😂 The win that he received was not “clear” at all, in fact it’s a hotly contested win. Volk did enough to win it and Islam was even calling for a rematch on the way to his corner after round 5 before the results. Some fighters may be able to sway the judges with meaningless control time (no progress, just laying on someone to rack up time and slow the fight) but it’s never going to be a show of actual quality or skill to do so. It’s more of a cowards way to victory trying to take minimal risk. I honestly expected a tie going into the results, that or a split in Volks favor, but it’s history now regardless. Hopefully they fight again some day to yield a legitimate and definitive winner.

And I’m very ready to see Benny back in there whenever they get that fight rescheduled. And it should be a good contest but it’s more of when Volk wins his next fight than if. While on this topic of future fights I’m really hoping Holloway TKZ gets lined up sometime this year, they expressed their interest and it’d be a good draw as a potential co-main or otherwise main card feature on a ppv.
