For all those that are complaining this is not possible Local club competitions are far less formal and they only close part of the pool. The public can still do laps in the lanes next to competition. More likely that is what happened

I once crossed the finish line of an orienteering race, also in third place. Unfortunately as I was fairly new to it I had lost my way a bit on the beginners race and crossed the wrong finish line - the one for the elite runners. Sadly that did not result in a medal.

I won some german rifle shooting contest in bavaria, in about 3 minutes. I thought it was just some fair game attraction and not wanting other people to wait behind me, i just hurried seeing my neighbour shoot. Other than recoil and using an ironsight i didnt know anything about guns and just copied the guy next to me.

on one hand, yes... on the other hand, why would the organizer then start the race if she was already in the pool?
@hannahk13066 ай бұрын
I don't understand how this is possible: if there's a swimming gala going on, either the pool is shut to the public (so reception wouldn't have let her pay) or the public are limited to certain areas (in which case reception would have told her). Also, if someone gets in the pool early in a race, then they'd be disqualified anyway. Plus, wouldn't the organisers question the random person who's just got into one of the swimming gala lanes?
@colemantrebor65746 ай бұрын
Just a mistake probably, with an area supposed to be blocked off but not blocked off. Could be they wanted to get her out of the water but didnt get to do so in time as the kids were already ready to race

Now that can't have been an official gala, more likely some school swimming lessons end of course races or something. As even in level 3 or 4 meets there are tight protocols for the events to ensure times are valid for Swim England records.

I just can't see how it's possible that she would be allowed in a pool with a swim meet going on. The first rule would be no one is allowed in the pool before the gun goes off. The only logical thing might be no one noticed, it was a backstroke event and somehow she was also doing back stroke? They have refs to make sure no one is swimming the wrong stroke, hitting the ends, doing proper turns, etc. It must have been the laziest run swim meet I've ever seen. On top of that, how could she have come third. When i was 11 and swimming, I would be faster than all adults that weren't competitive swimmers or had been competitive swimmers... Makes no sense
@junbh26 ай бұрын
It could have been a more casual or low level swim meet than yours. And we don't know how much Lucy swims. Maybe she swims a lot or did swim competitively when she was younger.
@didrikmesicek48256 ай бұрын
Exactly, there's just no way this is true as told. Plus if you just got into the pool when a competition was about to take place someone would yell at you to get out. And of course, that lane would have had a competitor in it, there are no randomly empty lanes in the middle of a pool

How is this possible? How could the starter not notice the crowd screaming at the idiot woman to get out of the water? How could the judges not stop the race as they see two swimmers in one lane? How could they not notice that one competitor started from part way down the pool instead of from the starting blocks? How could she be declared third since posting a time requires starting the clock by leaving the starting block which she was never on? How could she be sold a ticket to use a pool that was already closed for the swimming competition? I have no doubt she told the producers this nonsensical story, but surely critical thinking skills would quickly tell them this could only exist, as told, in the imagination of the teller, but not in the real world. It could only happen in a world in which an entire gaggle of event organizers, judges at both ends of the pool, and a large crowd of spectators were blind, deaf, and dumb. I call BS on the story as told, even if WILTY producers are gullible enough to allow it.
@simonkevnorris6 ай бұрын
I have to agree how did the starter not realise that there was a swimmer not 'on the blocks' or in the start position before firing the gun?
@artistjoh6 ай бұрын
@@simonkevnorris Yes. There are stories that are ludicrous, but ultimately plausible, like any of Bob's stories, but there is too much about this story as told that is simply not credible. I can buy that she was an member of the crowd who somehow fell into the pool, swam to the end to get out, that is plausible. I can buy that it wasn't a proper race with a starter's gun, but some kids just racing each other for fun. But as told, the whole buying a ticket for an unavailable pool, no starter nor judge hearing her go into the water, not seeing her and immediately stopping the race, the whole crowd not screaming at her to get out, and then to be declared third place finisher and no one noticing she is not 12. Too much that is BS all the way through the story.
@peterclarke72406 ай бұрын
Council-run pools normally have multiple pools but only one reception. You can often access all the pools from the same changing room. You're also forgetting that humans are spectacularly good at making assumptions based on very little evidence, and not reacting to things if nobody else does. All this situation would need is Lucy taking a wrong turn out of the changing room, the audience not paying attention or thinking it must be part of the preparations, and the starter being too distracted by their job of shepherding a bunch of 12 year olds into line (and resisting the urge to shoot them) to fail to spot the lone female swimmer halfway up one of the lanes.
