Hi Hannah... crochet cardigan dilemma, the strip you made is the button band! It's not supposed to look like the body of the cardigan. You said you're doing YO/SLIP STITCHES... The main body would be HDC in the back loop each stitch (just like the swatch you did)....glad u are all safe ❤
@minorbyrd19 күн бұрын
i was just about to suggest this as a possibility also!
@TheCozyCottageCrochet15 күн бұрын
Normally this would be my response too, but this sweater has a button band that you add on at the end! So the part I was working on was actually not the button band. The entire cardigan is made in yarn over slip stitches (minus the bottom trim that is made in regular slip stitches). I think what I actually need to do is swatch again and make sure I did the swatch correctly because who knows at this point what I was thinking! That was two hurricanes ago 😅😅

The last thing I frogged like 4 times is a wool/silk fingering weight baby blanket for my 1st grandchild. I'm working it in moss stitch in the square. It is 2 colors - gradient shades of gray & gold. I initially did every other row gray/gold but that was much gold. then I did 2 row gray/1 row gold - did not like that either. Then did 4 rows gray/1 row gold -love it!

So happy to hear that you guys did “ ok” during that storm. I have a dear friend also in St Pete and she does live in a mobile home and did have to evacuate. Luckily all is well with her as well. Frogging- I usually don’t end up frogging things ( I’m ok with “ design elements”) but this summer I was making a lovely lite summer cardigan using linen yarn but after working on it a few weeks I realized I wasn’t enjoying it at all because of the yarn. So glad you are all safe and survived the hurricane. I live in Northern Ireland where we don't typically have terrible weather just lots of rain. We have a yellow warning for storm someone or other, I've forgotten its name. No where near anything like you describe. Yours must have been so scary. I couldn't not tell you about a knitting disaster I had. It was a 4 ply cabled sweater. It was supposed to be for me. Approximately 44" chest. When finished, it fit a 5 year old! It almost killed my knitting mojo. At least it wasn't a complete waste of time. Gauge is my biggest problem.

I just had a knitting attack at the weekend that I fixed while watching this podcast! I had a 10sec lapse in attention that lead to 2hrs of woe. I somehow managed to switch to the wrong pattern row a whole repeat too early and didn't realise it until I was 2 rows past 😱 and it was cables 🤦🏻♀️ I'm glad you and your family are okay and finally have power and water back. Fingers crossed there aren't any more big nasty hurricanes. My nearly 6yo is so excited for Halloween, he gets to wear his costume 3 times this year which he's very happy about, tomorrow at a school disco, trick or treating around our city centre shopping mall and on Halloween to go "proper" trick or treating.

Buying yarn makes me happy too. I went to my first fiber festival while visiting my mom in Missouri. It was small, but so fun. The last thing I frogged was the neckline for the poncho I was making for my mom - I didn't take the weight of the yarn into account and it went down past her bust - which totally defeated the keep her warm aspect. 😅

Sending hugs and positive vibes for everything yarn, water and power related! But I’m glad you were & are all safe! The last thing I had to frog was about 2.5 inches of knitting on a garment made in fingering weight - I’d moved the stitches onto a stretchy cable to try it on for length - because it was now spread out, I noticed it had pooled way more than I thought! I wanted to put it in the naughty corner after frogging, but it was a test knit so I had to carry on with it! I did it though! Was a lesson learned - always alternate skeins!!! 😂💜

I’m so happy to hear from you and thank goodness that you’re doing well, I was thinking about you. It was very interesting hearing about all that is involved in evacuation. I live in New Brunswick,Canada and years ago we had a severe ice storm that shut down all power for 8 days but this was the middle of winter with no heat. I had two dogs so I couldn’t go to a warming station. A glass of water formed ice sitting on the counter in the kitchen. It was terrible. The weight of the ice broke trees and power lines everywhere. Mother Nature is impressive for sure. I’ve been frogging dish cloths trying different stitches to come up with a perfect fit but I have two sweaters that are hibernating in project bags because they need to be frogged and I don’t want to deal with them. I'm so glad you made it through the storm safely. I'm very much a 'they'll never notice the mistakes' knitter and almost always forge ahead, but I was working on a sweater in the round and my disaster was just that I didn't wanna knit almost 300 stitches in each round (with every second round being all purls) so I frogged the whole thing and started doing it flat in pieces. Not looking forward to seaming it, but that will be an easier mental hurdle than endless rounds and purls. (It's a fingering weight half fisherman's rib.)

I've never lived anywhere that hurricanes were an issue so I was one judging why people don't leave when one is coming. Luckily I now live in Michigan where there are relatively few natural disasters. I'd guess the last thing I frogged was a shawl. It wasn't an error or I didn't like it, it was really dragging through the rows. I decided if I felt like that less than a quarter of the way into the first of two balls of yarn, I'd never finish.

Oh my gosh i started a Granny Rocks cardigan with a beautiful 100% wool in purple and grey multi colour yarn. Put the last stitch in and realized it was a row short. I had to frog 8 and a half rows. I forgot a full dc row that is after a row with the open squares that make the outline of the star. Sk then when I got to the next to last row again I had to frog 2 and a half rows because I missed on the chart that an extra full row was tossed in when through the rest of the latter it was every other row of just one full row. I was so upset. But I fixed it and then went to bed. I ended up being awake later then I stay up now because I refused to go to bed before I got it fixed. I am behind on my Christmas gifts because I got my first cold that lasted a week and a half and before that I had a bad 2 month pancreatic flare. Dealing with vertigo today, but trying hard to get better. Whew, what an ordeal! Glad you got through safely, but a week without power? In the south? With small children?! You deserve a year of vacation and like a million dollars. I've lived in tornado country all my life, so I think the reason hurricanes inspire a kneejerk "Run!" instinct is that you get so much warning, comparatively. But then I realize if I knew about a tornado in advance, the most I'd probably do is go to a local shelter too, and that's just because I don't have a basement. My last tale of woe was my blacklight sweater for the Lisa Frank MAL. The swatch was more than generous, and yet it lied to me so bad! I frogged hundreds of stitches twice, and finally I had to track down a 2.75mm needle on a sweater-size cable. But it's going fine now!

I am so glad the pooling didn't start until after the V too . That would have been terrible. As it is, I can't imagine knitting with two balls; actually I can't imagine knitting that complicated sweater at all.

I've got it restated and I'm alternating skeins now and the pooling has stopped thankfuly!

I'm happy to hear you guys are ok. we were thinking about you, has anyone heard from Heybrownberry? My last knitting attack was on my brioche hat, on the last round there was a problem, and I just knit a few stitches together, and moved on. I can't even see it.

I haven't heard anything from Marceline yet, but I hope she is okay!

I just had to frog a "cancer cardi" because I totally did NOT understand the instructions and I was doing the stitch wrong! I was about half way through 🥲Glad you were relatively safe from Milton!

I have done that so many times - just going along and then I realize I did it incorrectly!

Drop a stitch on a knitted baby blanket, I picked up the stitch on the next row with a crochet hook. While watching your podcast. Lol

I was testing a filet crochet blanket, a snowman, and the crochet attacked! I finished the whole thing, hung it up to take pix, and saw one row about halfway back, was off. As you know, in filet crochet a mistake is glaringly obvious. There was no way I was frogging half the blanket so I took a tapestry needle, some matching yarn, and sewed a mock DC into the openings that were supposed to be solid and cut the yarn out to make openings where they were supposed to be. Up close it won't fly, but from a distance, for pix, it works! 😂
@TheCozyCottageCrochet15 күн бұрын
Oh no! Filet crochet is so easy to make a mistake like that on!

My crochet attack was I am currently making the Irene sweater by Vicky chan, i realized after separating for the sleeves, i used the smaller hook instead of the larger one. I had to restart it with the correct hook, otherwise it would be way to small. And I'm using a indie dyed super wash merino.

the Irene sweater is so pretty! I love Vicky Chan's designs. I've made 3 of them.

Glad your family and home is ok!! I’ve found some discontinued yarn was looking for on eBay a couple years ago. Good luck on your search. Can you please share your sour dough starter recipe with me?? I had to frog a hat that was too small for my head.

If you send me an email, I will take a picture of the recipe for the sourdough starter and email it back to you! It's from a book on bread making. My email is thecozycottagecrochet AT gmail DOT com

Have you used Valley Yarns Charlemont before? It's almost the same fiber content, 60% merino/20% nylon/20% silk, and a lot easier to find. My latest knitting attack: I splurged on the original colorway kit for Andrea Mowry's Rhinebeck sweater this year, Framed, and I'm running out of yarn left and right. I extended the body length by a 1/2 repeat and had to reduce the sleeve length by 1/2 repeat as a result (not a huge deal since I have short arms and usually have to shorten my sleeves anyway). But I'm also going to have to buy another skein of the ribbing color and hope that the dye lot matches, to finish my second cuff :/
@TheCozyCottageCrochet15 күн бұрын
I haven't used Charlemont, but now I clearly need to try it! Oh NO, running out of yarn is the absolute worst, especially on hand dyed 😭 Aren't they supposed to include like a 10% extra leeway on the yarn to make sure that doesn't happen! I'm so sorry, what a terrible knitting attack

So glad you all are safe and have power & water restored - what an ordeal! (are you sure it’s pop and not margarita in that can? 🤦🏾♀️) The last large item I had to frog was a cardigan from The Crochet Project - a bad experience is putting it mildly. But I recovered the beautiful grey yarn and used it in something else so 🙌🏽. I have a question for you: do you put in an after-thought lifeline before pulling out your knitting if you hadn’t put one in before?
@TheCozyCottageCrochet15 күн бұрын
I wish it were margarita LOL I didn't have any lifelines in this project because it was just stockinette in the round. I went through and picked up stitches with a smaller knitting needle and a cable, and in essence that was adding a lifeline, so after picking up stitches I ripped back to that point.

So glad you all are ok! I'm using the yarn forward method to alternate skeins on the sweater I'm knitting right now and I really like it. I've had to rip back before because of pooling... I'm just don't like the look.

I had to frog out about 500 yds of yarn from a blanket because I found out I was adding extra stitches on the end of the row and the sides were growing. 😢 I'm working on getting back to where I was.

I got some new sock yarn from premiere. After I made the whole first sock with my usual stitch count I tried it on and it didn't fit! I had to frog and add 12 stitches above normal and go up a needle size. What the heck! I think its sport yarn, not fingering. And now I'm using the same yarn, but a different color and it's back to my usual stitch count 🙃 after I first started with the larger number of stitches. This is crazy.

Wendy oops the name of the shop is "Knit Crochet Repeat" and we are in Tucahoe PS, the last thing i Frogged was a Crochet Halter top for my Niece> the more i made of it, i felt it was not appropriate, so i ripped it out!!!

Hi Wendy! I've never tried Wacki Saki but I would love to try it and let you know how I like it (and how it holds up to wear and washing!). It sounds absolutely lovely. How would you like me to get you my address? Also it is VERY COOL that you own a yarn shop. Someday when these kids are older and I can travel more, I will come visit!

Hi Hannah, just popping by to say I HEAR YOU on the colour pooling. I get an almost visceral aversion to pooling. And in fact the last thing I frogged was a 75% done Sophie Shawl because of the pooling 😂

Hey. I am happy only your sourdough died. I lived at places with no electricity before and i can promise it's possible to survive it. There was also no running water, no bathroom or kitchen and stuff. It's a great experience to see how little we really need. But yes i prefer electricity. I live in india in the Himalayas and the electricity is off quite often. Ok to knitting i work on my pluma morada shawl by Joji. I have many knitting attacks. Trying to make hats that actually fit is a challenge. I have frogged a lot recently. Even the hat i finished, raxtur by stephen west ,(love that hat pattern a lot), has an issue. It turns out my alpaca yarn is too soft so the earflaps don't stand. I will need to sew on buttons or something to fix it. Have a great day
