Sorry poly fill has ABSOLUTELY NO EFFECT on box size or displacement It literally ONLY helps with " Chuffing " Aka wind noise your science / theory is incorrect. With all things being equal : Voltage, amperage, ohms, woofers, box with or without poly fill decibel & SPL would be the SAME.

The poly fill is a old school trick to trick the speaker into thinking the box was bigger,it's been around for 20 something years if not longer, most of the boxes I've come across using it where high end home audio speakers they wanted good sound quality and limited to space
@lllllllllllllllllllll1lll1 Жыл бұрын
Yep it'll also smooth out port resonances, important for accurate response. If left unchecked, those resonances will cause all sorts of sharp comb filtering dips in the response curve... like 6-15db down at times. No bueno
@loud_n_lowtaco2002 жыл бұрын
I only use poly fill for sealed sub boxes for any midrange/midbass enclosure. It’s helped reduce any unwanted resonances that I didn’t want audible from the enclosure reflecting the rear wave back out of the cone

I don't us Poly-fill every time but on the enclosures with single 10" sub, I think it adds a smoothness in the lower notes. I think Rockwool works better though.

He started with a DD CM1000, even with that amp the L7s would shake his neighbors garage door like crazy down the alley about 300 feet away being wayyy underpowered. He had a zx2500 after he sold the L7s, reallyyyy wish I couldve heard those L7s on that zx2500 😢

Great idea with the repurpose console and amazing idea with putting the air filter for the fan intake really good work man👌🏼 as far as the polyfill I'm sure you have removed it by now but if not it is primarily used to eliminate resonance and sealed enclosures it doesn't do anything for you in a ported enclosure really except for displaced more space

I use Rockwool. Less cabinet resonances, especially useful in ported full range enclosures (mainly build home hifi) to prevent phase issues in the mid-high range. Phase cancellation from high freq content coming from the port causes all sorts of weird combing. I tune higher, then overdamp. Mainly using HornResp to model response prior to building. Then REW to check port response and make some final filling adjustments. If SPL is your #1 goal it wouldn't make much sense. If you want smooth response, however, Rockwool (Roxul Safe 'n Sound, $50 for a big bundle at any hardware store) is perfect.

Thanks JV for all your hard work, time, video, audio, tutorial, commentary, demo & editing 👌 Love the build & owners design elements. Many audio enthusiast mistake poly fill as displacement...Total B.S !!! It's ONLY true benefit is to cut down on air pollution aka " CHUFFLING " Poly fill will NOT help with higher decibels or SPL. If this was true EVERY SPL competitor would use a 💩 load of it in their enclosures. Home audio & home theater use poly fill exclusively to cut down on CHUFFLING. Concerts & concert halls do NOT use poly fill because outdoor concerts play open into mother nature EX: wind, weather, road noise, trains, planes. Concert halls / auditoriums walls & ceilings are built to absorb some sound waves & accentuate others.

Poly fill/Cotton batting, is recomended for SEALED enclosures. If using in a ported enclosure, again= NOT RECOMENDED, use whole sheets, glued, or stappled to the enclosure, away from the ports, as loose fill, can, and will cause port chuffing, and get into the motors of the subwoofers. Fill, should be used when you want more acoustical damping, or when you are limited on enclosure volume. Poly fill/Cotton batting, works better in smaller enclosures using 1/2Lb., to 1Lb of material per cu.ft. Many tests have been done, showing the enclosure resonance will lower, and make the woofers "see" approx., 20% to 25% more enclosure volume, in small enclosures. This volume % increase/gain diminishes as the enclosure gets bigger. Hope this helps, have a great day, and HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉

Polyfil doesn't really affect the overall performance, like you would think, and in some cases it hurts performance. DIY Audio Guy, did a great test on this, and it has no real benefits.
@c0c0asauce2 жыл бұрын
Actually it did improve performance in his limited testing but he said it's not worth it to him. Sony, Panasonic, and Pioneer put polyfil in some of their enclosures for a good reason. Frankly, his test was very limited and to make a broad statement like that throws doubt on anything else he says.
@terrypace21342 жыл бұрын
Actually it does. I've worked in car stereo for over 25 years and using polyfil does help the lows. I've seen it proven on meters
@Chuck_Sanders2 жыл бұрын
@@terrypace2134 it doesn't really affect it at all. Most use it to "trick" sealed enclosures that are smaller than recommend, into thinking it's larger, and It may alter the frequency band by around 2hz +/- at best. I've been in audio as a whole, amd not just car audio, for just over 3 decades, and there have been numerous tests, to prove that it is basically an inaudible gain at best. It might help somewhat, with standing waves, to control the cone...a tad, but not much.
@Chuck_Sanders2 жыл бұрын
@@c0c0asauce I just used Justin, as an example. There are plenty of tests done over the years. None have any significant gain, to using it. Fisher, Kenwood, uses it as well, as many other manufacturer's. They typically line the back of the tower, with a mat form, to reduce staving waves amd or to reduce resonance due to a cheaper and thinner material used on those enclosures. It does very minimal acoustically, and there is no real gain. After 30 years of doing oem work on many drivers, and working with all type enclosures.. it's a waste. For sealed, you'll need around 1lb or so, per cubic ft of enclosure volume, to net any measurable affects on a graph.. and it's minimal at best. The ear, will never detect a difference. And, in this particular build, using those Kicker subs, he is already at or around optimal enclosure volume, so there's no need to "trick" the enclosure to seem larger. In fact, it may and or actually hurt the sub's used, by reaching their xmax quicker, on the power used. It depends on how that enclosure would graph, with that amount of power, and the lower tuning.
@c0c0asauce2 жыл бұрын
@@Chuck_Sanders Where do you draw the line for what's worth it? I'll take a 1% gain when it costs next to nothing. With a sub-optimal enclosure it can make all the difference. No one says it doesn't work. People just say it's not worth it to them.

I would like to know the name of the first track .
MB Quartz 10 RPL are sealed and .6-.9cu' with alot of polyphil recommended, butI run them in 1.25cu' before displacement and sealed and still use polyphil, makes the sub act like it is in a bigger enclosure and sounds clean vs no polyphil. Never used it in a ported enclosure. Polyphil is supposed to be used in small areas recommended specs are to big for the area make a smaller enclosure and use poly will sound closer to a normal enclosure.
