Let's go back in time: 2005 is the destination. Draconian released the album "Arcane Rain Fell" and changed my life forever! I suggest "Heaven Laid in Tears" as a starter.. or if you want to sprint right to the finish line, give a go to the final track of the album, their grand opus: Death, Come Near Me (15+ minutes of sweet sweet darkness!)

2003* and they had some tracks of the album on others before that, demo versions of course. But yeah, Arcane Rain Fell is definitely a great album. I really don't understand why this band is overlooked. Their music is on par and even better, in my opinion, with others who have acquired a legendary status.

Another great recommendation by the community 👏 I was going to suggest the track "The Sacrificial Flame". For a more chilled vibe with the same female vocalist give ISON a try, you'll definitely float away with them. Especially tracks like "Helios" or "ISAE".

Such an amazing band. I met one of their guitarists (now basist) on a Candlemass pre-party back in the 2010. He showed me one video of a live performance of "Bloodflower". I have been a huge fan ever since. I even have 3 Draconian related tattoos x) So yeah.. Everything this band released is just brilliant beyond words..

I'm a simple man, I see a video about draconian and I run to watch it. Draconian mixes several religious elements in their last two albums "Sovran" and "Under A Godless Veil" mainly about Gnosticism (little known branch of Christianity). When I heard them in 2021 it was love at first sight. Last week they were here in Brazil, but unfortunately I couldn't go see them. Great reaction, btw. I really like your videos, man.

I've been a Draconian fan since 2013, and last month I went to their concert for the first time (the first time they've come to Brazil). It was absolutely amazing. If you want more harsh vocals from them, react to "The Sethian" (beautiful and brutal song) or "The Sacrificial Flame" (heavy with insane guitar riffs)

Nightwish is my favourite band but doom/death metal is definitely my favourite genre. It’s super sad and very emotional music but it makes me feel happy. Draconian is one of the best doom/death bands. They are very good live and very nice people. Other doom/death bands to check out: Swallow The Sun, Officium Triste, Trees of Eternity, Hallatar, Evadne, Novembers Doom, etc…

Wow! What a deeply emotional song, flowing, dreamlike, sedate... to me, when you have clean vocals balanced (or offset?) with harsh vocals/growling it makes for the perfect mix of emotional change, and a variable texture that gives a song a compelling sound. Harsh vocals are very, very difficult to do well. IMHO, there is a certain resonance and depth that gives them their true power and impact. The band Amorphis has some of the best, and their song "The Bee" is a prime example. If you haven't heard it before, I highly recommend it.

ha nice! I am so glad you did this after my recommendation and that you liked it! welcome to the world of melodic and emotional doom metal. Another one (really unknown though) is Sulphur Aeon from my homecountry Germany. Death metal with lovecraft influence and more brutal than this for sure :D. Pretty nice stuff! Lungs into gills is a good starting point. cheers brother! Edit: Draconian has a pretty nice catalogue. the mix of harsh and clean vocals is very present in all of their stuff. a perfect example for this is the song rivers between us. Heike Langhans (female voice here) is out of this world. her voice is just hauntingly beautiful. almost aetheric for me.

That's a yes for me though I'd have to hear a bit more to make up my mind on the band as a whole. This was beautiful, haunting, and I felt sorrow yet hope as well. You're right, the harsh I felt fit in perfectly with the song, and i could understand most of what he was saying without the lyrics. It really helped to see them to understand the song tho, as usually I'm listening to the music on 1st listen and only catch bits of the words. Very interesting I'd like to hear more TY for bringing it Cosmic ❤ and ✌️ everyone

first the Gathering, now Draconian.. Man, these are good bands, but you have to hear who inspired them all and more. You should hear the best band in the genre and the fathers of gothic doom metal - Paradise Lost. I have a hunch that you will immediately like them, because the vocals of Nick Holmes will immediately remind you of the raucous vocals of James Hetfield, they have often been compared before, they are really similar. The band started in 1988 (they are my age))) in the death/doom metal genre, very quickly they changed their sound to gothic doom metal and brought this genre to the masses. Their 1995 album "Draconian times" has been one of my top 3 favorite albums in metal music for many years. I strongly advise you to listen to the whole album and don't be afraid of 1995, the recording quality is very good. I'm sure you will appreciate it. The most interesting thing is that I first heard Paradise Lost on MTV in the 2000s, because in the 2000s they changed their sound to completely mainstream, but I also like this period of the band, they released a lot of cool hit songs. In 2012, the band left the mainstream and began to return to their roots, and at the moment they have returned to the doom metal genre, and to the depressing part of this genre. But I strongly advise you to start your acquaintance with early creativity. From the album "Draconian times", and for the reaction I will advise this song: Paradise Lost - Forever Failure ( official video HD remastering) - it is a masterpiece of doom/gothic metal kzbin.info/www/bejne/n6GvoXqpjpqqgNUsi=EnibOgeldbx1JTcp

To answer you're question yes they intertwine harsh vocals with clean on pretty much everything they do. This female singer replaced the original singer, but she has left the band to go solo and they now have their original singer back who has the same kind voice as well. Been a fan since their first album, "She Dies" is one that I suggest you listen to it is with the original female singer. They don't really have a bad song on any of their albums a really fantastic band, I would also suggest looking into another band called Swallow the Sun from Finland they are a progressive melodic doom band and is considered probably the best band from finland. Draconian is classified as a melodic doom/gothic metal band from Sweden.✌🎼🎸
