Science has become in itself its own religion. Many forget that it’s purpose is to measure and document physical reality. There are several ideas dubbed as “pseudoscience” that can not be proven or disproven. Yes, I know that’s a sketchy premise, and I don’t condemn those who don’t believe me when I speak of what I’ve experienced over the years. I don’t believe doctors promoting herbal supplements. But to say Extraterrestrials and extrasensory phenomena are not possible, i must disagree. I’ve seen extrasensory at work.

As a medical instructor I was constantly having to instruct my students not to use information obtained from Dr. Oz, Dr. Phil, Oprah, or any others promoted TV personality. It is frightening to think some may put these unfounded aspects to use.

All of these "doctors" giving bogus medical advice should be sued and made to pay for the bad outcomes. Once they pay reparations, fines for dispensing medical advice without a license, and het a bad name in the press, only then the public will realize that these are conmen. I experienced a different "Oprah Effect" when I was living and working in Santa Barbara, CA. I was very diligently saving money for a down payment on a house (one that would need lots of renovation, but hey, it was Santa Barbara). I was almost there when Oprah came to Montecito (a posh community in the hills of SB) and purchased a huge property with cash. This sent ALL the real estate prices through the roof and made purchasing a home in SB virtually unattainable for most academics like myself. Needless to say everytime I saw her name, I had a very negative visceral reaction.

@@mariawoo843 - Oh my Gosh!! I couldn’t believe what I was reading when I read your comment that Dr. Phil said we had already been thru COV - 1 to 18!!!! I’m in shock, actually! Now, I’ve never watched his show, but you can’t not know these people who pop up everywhere. In fact, just yesterday I was watching the KZbin Channel “The Behavior Panel” (the four men who are body language experts and that’s their field). They pick a person which is usually a criminal or a famous person who has recently been in news over some controversial issue and they read their body language. Anyway, they had Dr. Phil on their panel because of a person he had himself interviewed. So, the 5 of them discussed this man’s body language. I’ve never been able to pinpoint and say why I had no interest to ever watch his show. Of course, over the decades, you can’t help from running into them while channel surfing or being online. So, I have seen like one-minute spots of his show and left. Not once did his personality or interview style once grab me to keep me viewing. I’ve always seen him as kinda creepy with his one-look face that never changes. But, I’ve never judged him in any other way because I know you can’t fairly do that without any information at all. I seriously never saw him for more than a minute and maybe that happened 5 times or less over the past decades. I only watched Oprah probably 10 times over the decades. It’s not just those two. I do not like that kind of show anyway. I think I may have seen Ellen maybe 3 times. I think I’ve channel-surfed and when I’d see an extraordinary child doing something really talented, that could easily keep me. BUT, my question is, “Just HOW is it possible for people to put stock in ANYTHING he now says since he said that about COVID-19?!! I mean, when I watched him yesterday on Behavior Panel, I had no idea!! But, if I had, I would’ve never watched it because I would’ve known what a half-wit he is! Ewww! LOL! Thanks for sharing that. Omg, people never cease to amaze me in their psycho ways, narcissism, fraudsters, etc. So, Dr. Grande did a good program here exposing her for the fraudsters she has endorsed. I mean, I’ve never seen these people like Dr. Oz. I truly have zero interest in those shows. I actually don’t watch much TV. I stream most everything I watch. There’s just too much good streaming content (like some most excellent documentaries) to miss to go watch those shows. When Oprah was on, I had a business I was running. And kids! I just hardly watched TV. When Dr. Grande was rattling off the LONG LIST of crap that Oprah used to peddle, like new age stuff, fraudsters, magic, mystics, etc it blew my mind! No wonder we have so many generations of stupid people. Yes, I’m actually saying I’m not stupid. LOL! Like you aren’t or you wouldn’t have bothered to bring up what Dr. Phil said. OMG! I was thinking of going to search for that video to hear him say it, but I’m not sure I can handle it. Knowing that MILLIONS and MILLIONS of people watched him and Oprah every day and didn’t even KNOW when they were being bullshitted to??!! They don’t have that inner voice to know it when they hear it? I’m having a rant. I’ll let you go. Thx for sharing, tho. 👍🏼

When a person's unfettered narcissistic qualities are promoted, validated, and even revered on a grand scale it doesn't take too long for these narcissistic qualities to manifest themselves into a form of megalomania. In the same way that power is attractive, self-belief can morph into self-delusion and become counter-productive. When we measure success solely by levels of financial attainment and popularity it can be difficult to maintain any level of objectivity and level-headedness. If everybody tells you that you are some kind of god or godess, and your bank balance starts to reflect this hyper-inflated image, then you are prone to start believing in your own infallibility.

The only Oprah that people who do not receive American television ( ie most of the world) are aware of, is an actress they may have seen in a film "The Colour Purple". Like all television personalities in every country, famous nationally, but not internationally. Since the invention of KZbin however, the global viewer is exposed to more. One dated clip shows Oprah and the Louis Vuitton handbag(purse) in Rome story. The bottom line was, the shop assistant, hired and paid a salary to sell a franchised French product, decides to actually miss out on a lucrative sale of an insanely overpriced bag "..because she is black"! Louis Vuitton Rome vehemently denies any such episode. A handbag incident actually did take place with Oprah in Zurich where again she claims the assistant refused to sell her a bag for racist reasons. Anyone familiar with these up-market boutiques knows how absurd such a conjecture could be. The assistants have a sixth sense for money and wealthy clientele, but their knowledge of the English language is scholastic at best. Two things are obvious: Oprah's annoyance at not being recognised and revered, no will or effort to overcome the language barrier. It seems to me the one story was milked and spun off the other, trying to imply Europe is racist.(?) American style racism simply cannot be projected onto sophisticated Europe, light years ahead on the topic of integration. Until this story is cleared up, I detect a strong odour of BS.

Well done. I’m a clinician. I grew up in poverty and experienced a variety of adversities. As such, I’ve found Oprah to be an inspiring, if not fascinating, person given the life she’s built for herself despite significant obstacles. And, over recent years I’ve questioned some of the people she promotes. Recently, she co-wrote a book with Dr. Bruce Perry on adverse childhood experiences and released a a docuseries on Appletv called The Me You Can’t See. I’ve only started to read the book, but I watched the docuseries. What I found most interesting is her perspective on perseverance which was accidentally revealed in one of the vignettes about a young woman she was attempting to ‘help’. Oprah struggled to understand the neurobiological nuances of how trauma affects people, largely because she’s so profoundly resilient and successful. In light of that, it makes sense why her career has been filled with elevating people and practices that have mass appeal (like magical problem solving) versus science or evidenced based practices. I won’t, however, fault her for appealing to society’s preference for easy solutions, a desire for sensational storytelling or fame by association. It’s a two way street. 😊

Thanks for taking about this. I’m a therapist who deals with trauma and I’ve noticed that some traumatized people use new age and various healing modalities as a way to keep the trauma repressed - a means to feel like they’re healing their traumatic memories without really integrating the pain of the memories. So the pursuit of these healing modalities becomes an unconscious deflection of the pain. They all tend to have “magical thinking” in operation from childhood - the willingness to believe in the power of their own positive (repressive) thought defense. I guess many people in our culture are willingly deceived by these modalities, which is easy because they do offer temporary relief and can be helpful in the healing of trauma as grounding tools - but not the end goal

In closing, I want to say your commentaries are now following a trend in which you're literally making money off analyzing-some people may say bashing- celebrities who are yellow press fodder. His criticism can viewed as negative and often are. While he's telling people to be careful of Oprah, people need to be careful of Grande!

I attended an event held by my alma mater. The speakers were two South African women who spoke about growing up in South Africa and apartheid. At the end of their talk there was time for a Q&A. I don’t remember the question one student asked, but their response has stuck with me all these years. The women spoke about how Oprah had given a large sum of money to create a prestigious school for girls in South Africa. They acknowledged the nice gesture, but they also said, “Oprah never asked us what we needed and where we believed the money was best served. She made the decision. If we had the chance to speak with her how we could best use that generous amount of money, we would have wanted to use it to improve the schools that already exist. We could provide a better education for many more girls and boys in our country.” The women acknowledged the gift and were grateful for it, but there is something disturbing about waltzing into a foreign country, deciding what’s best for them. It feels infantilizing when Oprah decided for South Africans what is best for them.
@citizenoftheearth6 Жыл бұрын
it's her money and she can do whatever she wants with it. SA is notoriously corrupt.
@megara4068 Жыл бұрын
@citizenoftheearth6 Most places are corrupt. If you have a problem with these two South African women or their critique of Oraph's influence in their home country, then go take it up with them. Westerners, almost always white Westerners, like voluntourism trips. They do some small amount of work, take selfies of themselves with children from the country they're visiting, and upload the photos for social media likes and validation. The "White savior" mentality involves barging into someone's country and telling them how they will fix the country's problems without asking any local folks what they need or the best ways to make things run smoothly in their own culture and environment. Folks with White savior complex encourage voluntourism, and, as Westerners do, push Western and/or Christian ideals onto these folks they claim they're helping. The idea that anyone deserves to be absurdly rich and that they can walk into a country, telling them what they need is, again, infantilizing as well as pressing capitalism on the people of that country whether they like it or not. We could go into an entirely different direction about the leeches and blood money of capitalism, but hopefully, this is enough for you to understand that it was the people of South Africa themselves who wanted to be consulted on how to best use money for children and education in their own country.

Fred: "Hi. I was on Oprah!" Dr. Grande: "Oh! In that case, you're hired!" Fred: "Really?" Dr. Grande: "Psych!" _hangs up_ (Sorry, I couldn't help it, Dr. G. that part cracked me up) 🤣

She milks her audience, and her audience loves pseudo science and survives out of hope for a miracle that will improve their day to day lives. Oprah is just a “great” business woman.

I wouldn't say she is a great business woman any more than I would call a coc41ne dealer a great business person...her bs sells itself.

The "I've been on Oprah" anecdote reminds me of myself because, while it was hardly the first thing out of my mouth, I would eventually always get around to telling people about that after-party in Bob Dylan's small motel room with Janis Ian and Maria Muldaur and John Denver. But then, one time a local friend, who had heard the story before, was standing there as I retold it and rolling his eyes. Yes Kinky, we know. We've heard it before. Oops. I never ever told that story again. Hahaha! He was a Hollywood child star and perhaps he had gone through that too.

Wait a minute doc... I thought you picked your shirts based on "The Secret" and advice you received from Deepak. And you're saying no? For shame! I have to consult the Oprah book club about this. It's a lot to take in.

What really confuses me is how many follow her every word and literally worship her. She and those she support are after only one thing, power, attention and greed. Sadly this world is filled with cult like mentality and thinking celebrities are so very extra special.

she was this warm, successful friend in their living room every day, talking to them about their inner most fears and dreams, that's a lot of access to people's vulnerable spots

Her actions are loud and clear. She knows how to make money and make her money grow and knows it takes hard work and discipline. She has promoted feels over reals because it sells. Oprah isn't interesting. Her fans aren't interesting. The Oprah affect is very interesting. Something about her resonates with a lot of Americans.

I am overwhelmed, sometimes, of how easy we (including me) of course, are deceived by other individuals. I don't think it is a matter of poor education, but poor, or lack of awareness. Our hearts (including mine) of course, are truly deceitful and truly wicked. Fame, money, social status, religious ranks, narcissists, etc., etc., etc. Lord have mercy😳

I could kick myself for supporting Oprah and the people she promoted. I've thrown away all the books she has recommended.Also the books her cohorts wrote.

I think the problem is people not understanding that you can't trust a person's judgement in regards to everything, that's a fictional pedestal they're placing her on and worshipping her in an idol like fashion. She's a human being, she has contributed tremendously to my knowledge about many things and she always discussed the subjects she tackled on her show rather than just "report on them", the show's run time for an average episode was perfect and well segmented. I really enjoyed watching it. What I'm saying is, she is good at what she does, but that doesn't make her always right and it's not fair to hold her to that standard (Or anybody else for that matter). Thanks for the video Dr.Grande, I definitely think you explained (in detail) why it's important to keep in mind that celebrities can be wrong about endorsing certain things, and go as far as making false proclamations about those things, even when its to the best of their knowledge.

Your background looks amazing doc! If I may suggest though as a life long cactus 🌵 & succulent freak, these plants need high light or bright indirect 🌞. Looks a bit dark or too far from windows in that location. One way to work this..is to place them in a bright location, & then rotate all or some into your background for short periods, like around Time of shooting. They will require more water if moved into high light. Also those teeny tiny potted ones do better if transplanted to a bit larger pot i have found. Mine like clay pot with drain hole. Water once a month once in a bigger pot. Hope this helps🥰💙
