Did quitting Church hit you hard?

Even after I had totally deconstructed my Mormon faith, the decision to stop going was brutal. I had to reconcile spiritual experiences that I had, the reality of my children not going on missions, and now losing my community. That was so painful. It’s amazing how many aspects of indoctrination have to be deconstructed in order to separate yourself. Sometimes the logical aspects of dismantling quirky doctrines is the easy part. Retraining the emotional aspects of religious conditioning can be much bigger struggle.
Please tell me in the comments if you’re experiencing a Mormon faith crisis and what has been the most difficult part.

So well said. When i left, i started to feel a greater love for humanity. For my whole life, i had (unitentionally) judged others. Suddenly i realized i was no better off, had no better answers, no better lifestyle, than anyone else. My love increased. It's been an amazing feeling.

Man is a social animal and by our very own nature we strive to fit in and to be accepted regardless. And as a youngster we tend to gravitate to people who shower us with praise. Unbeknownst to us at this time we are systematically being conditioned to believe and to act in a certain way. Our small minds are likened to putty on a potter’s throwing wheel. But, upon some level of maturity we tend to develop critical and rational thinking skills that will eventually cast doubt upon what we have been taught as a child. As a result our world as we know it begins to unravel and we are left scratching our heads wondering who we really are and where do we now fit into this place called life.
