Did SamCrac Fix My Salvage Ferrari ? Part 2

My $19000 cheap Ferrari was a previous salvage rebuilt $230,000 90's Supercar, but did Supercar Salvage King Samcrac previously fix it ? We find out from Sam himself and then get the tools out and start to address some of the major problems with this bargain 456 gamble.

I recently did the same on a friends car, they wanted over $3500 to replace the pumps. I had billet caps machined to replace the plastic bulkhead that cracks, Bosch pumps and used Holley's new Hydramat fuel pickup/sump system and it came to $1000 with labor including the 2 custom machined bulkheads to replace the garbage cracked plastic parts.

Re your power drain. One way to diag this is to do a "voltage drop test" across every fuse in your fusebox and use a chart to work that back to the amp/hr drain on each. You'll have a small drain from the ECU (unless you remove it from the equation) but this should tell you which circuit on a wiring diagram is causing the problem, and lead you to what's causing the issue. See powerprobe dot com for the fuse charts. Autologic has a page illustrating testing for parasitic draw via voltage drop, or just look up the various demos on youtube.

Good idea mate,,,putting your test meter on the dc current setting then up end one end of each fuse then put the meter in series with one end of the fuse and the other lead onto the side of the fuse holder,,this will show the current that is still being drawn !

Welcome Adam, just make sure you drain the fuel system first. Ill be covering a long list of common issues on the 456 (mine seems to have most of them)

Any ideas on positioning the f1 position sensor on the bottom of the f1 pump 360. I have bought a new one as it’s broken off I have temporarily fixed it but now in first it thinks it’s in second. I’m sure I’ll work it out but thought I’d as as it’s probably something you have already done. I’m currently rebuilding a 360 on my channel 👍

A multimeter on the fuses (many online vids, see South Main Auto) will quickly tell you which circuit is the parasitic drain. Then you're down to chasing gremlins in one specific item.

The immobilizers are Bosch, not italian, same as 996, like sam showed on his trip to specialized ecu

Ref possible alternator issue disconnect wires on back of alternator to rule it out on other cars the alternator when failing shorts out internally and leaves faint ignition lights in

Move the kill switch inside the car where you can see it. That way you won't forget to turn it off at the end of the day.

Look for glued-on patches and really crappy paintwork; find either of those and there's a good chance Sam has been around.

You should buy an Amperimeter Clamp for DC. Then measure the current and voltage of the cables starting from the battery to know where the current is flowing when the car is off. Also should measure that the alternator is charging it at the correct current and voltage.

I came over from Samcrac also, nice channel here. Be careful with dielectrics grease as it’s not a conductor so you don’t want much if any on the pins and actual contacts. Use it on the rubber boots and gaskets primarily.

...you can go a long way in cleaning that fuel tank with a DIY tank polishing set up...there are quite a few videos on YT on how to rig one up...they're aimed more for marine applications but will work in your case as well...

I would use a battery tender, so it runs when you need it to. NormalguySupercar uses one for his Ferrari and Jag XF.

I know that you work on Ferrari. What is your opinion on Quattroporte Maserati 2005. Every once in a while it jumps from D to Neutral and the 5th gear go in the manual change from 4-5, to 6, but it doesn’t come back from 6 if I want to go down, doesn’t go on five. But if click twice it goes on 4. I wonder if the accelerator sensor is bad. It goes down under 2000 revolution. I appreciate if you give me tour opinion on that. The dealer rip me off few times. I think that what works better is to tell in the title what you are going to fix in the title; then see you do the work and when you edit the video you put a voice over explaining what you are doing and why... i think the talking before is less self explanatory if we don’t see how the car is configurated. Ferraris are a huge mystery mechanically for most of us and you’re got a great youtube potential if you know how to hold your audience’s breath. Here you are filming with one hand... explaining and wrenching... you are not making it easy for you

Pte-fuel injection Ferraris are much easier to diagnosis! Also, the USA Company "Petronics" makes dual electric points for Marrelli Distributors, that go inside each Disrtbutor so no visible Mod! Looks Stock but works so much better, I used them in my 79 308GT4!
