I took a massive gamble and bought a $19000 non running Ferrari sight unseen from the US, I then transport it back to the UK to discover just how much of a bargain deal a cheap Ferrari really is !!

Great video and reminds me of when I purchased my 456m and did a lot of the same. I’ve documented the cambelt service and all other bits on the channel. A few bits on what you said. Tyres will make a massive difference. I changed all mine and it drove much better. Amazed at the difference. I sent my shocks to a company in the US to be rebuilt. Again amazed at the difference it made and was so much more reliable. Change all the fluids including the gearbox. Very easy drain and change. You won’t be able to change all the filters on the gearbox as some are not available. I think from memory there are 3. You can change one or two. Also change all the other filters. Plus I’d change the coolant hoses. They probably need it. A lot of this is preventative and what I did. Windows are a bugger and need adjustment. Sounds like you have a plan there. Shout if you need any further advice. Been through it all with the 456!

Mike Stringer Front bonnet on the 456M also not available. That was a £8.5k part made of carbon fibre. I imported the last available piece from California and sold it to a chap in Paris. He was keeping it stored just image case he ever needed it. Ferrari don’t keep parts forever but they will fabricate any part you need. Be prepared to pay though!

Beautiful car! I am glad you were able to save it. I have to say though, at 14:21, that was not the kind of gated shifter I was expecting. LOL!!!! I didn't even realize that Ferraris of this era even had an automatic transmission available.

brian5o agreed the manual box would probably be more desired but I’m very lucky to have others with the classic chrome gated shift. A big reason for buying this is to have some fun long journeys with the kids so an auto works well

I don’t know how someone can own a car like a Ferrari and not care for it properly. Just things like keeping it clean and taking care of the interior and engine bay. The headliner is thrashed and the passenger seat back cushion is separating from the seat. Little things like that are from the previous owner just not taking care of it. I could never let my car get like that. Definitely a good project for a good price though.

Yasir Qureshi I’d love to add one to my stable too. Although I’d love an A110, a 456 pulls at the heart. Small world. Your RS4 is still running like a top at 130k miles. It’s now at 435bhp after a failed intake flaps meaning removal and MRC stage 2 map.

456 is less expensive in costs than a 550 or a 612 ( very modern electronics particulary in dashbord can create problem )..... i owned .456 GT 1993 my father 412 i 1987 both in auto gearbox we never ruined by it......lonrly my first ”mondial” was cheaper

@@Ratarossa I found another 355 in Florida exactly like the very first 355 so ever owned. I have negotiated for months back and forth to purchased at a reasonable price for both parties. To be exact there are two in Florida, one privately owned and by a dealer. Hopefully by winter prices may be lower. Anyway, love your work think you are on to potentially something bug here. 456. Personally I think these are one of the "go to" at the moment. YES it's 4 seats but that's actually a good thing. V12 TRUE Ferrari, and so under appreciated (at the moment). I can't see them going any lower. Well done!

I am a retired Chief Engineer. This vehicle's reliability, like any complex machine is linked to it's maintenance history. How much is one prepared to address everything that was overlooked? The hydraulic fluid/filters comprising the suspension should be at the top of the list. The transmission fluid/filters is of paramount importance. Coolant system cleansing and change-out of coolant. Brake hydraulic fluid change. I prefer AMG's but I wish you luck with your Ferrari!

It needs a UK rear bumper. The undersized letters and and numbers on the number plate will fail the MOT and pick up tickets from plod.

Yellow headlights are french, not italian.. Anyway came close to buying a green manual 456 but declined, regrettably. Did of course have the same sidewindow issue, and also the rear window was delaminating. Interior had started to fall apart aswell. All fixable of course and the car ran like a dream
