Their 7 strings are a crazy value. I bought my bandmate a great condition used Damien 7 with active EMGs and gothic inlays for $315 around Christmastime a few years ago. Highway robbery in terms of price to value ratio. We’ve gigged with it countless times.

But with schecter korea and up, i dont feel a lot of difference.I mean, it competes with my $2000 guitars. I got other cheap guitars and they cannot compete with the expensive ones without custom modifications. Its just a good company, that provides a good product.

Schecters have always impressed me. When I taught full time at a store I'd never bring my own guitars and would just grab a Schecter, any Schecter, off the rack. Much better quality than I expected and the necks were great.

​@@juliusmillermusic Actually, a basic MIM Player Tele goes for $700 new , and the Schecter PT and PT Special go for $600 while offering some features that many players might find attractive. Like a flatter 12" (PT Special) or 14" (PT) radius, jumbo frets, Grover tuners, belly cut, contoured heel, and brass saddles (PT Special). The closest MIM Fenders for players (like me) looking for a Tele-style close to the above specs are the Deluxe Nashville Tele and FMT Tele, both of which go for $850 compared to $600 for a Schecter PT or PT Special. No I don't work for Schecter.

I think Schecter is hitting the sweet spot with retro and traditional looks with a modern play, feel, and sound. I dig the sound of these Schecter Ultratrons, they have a Filtertron sound with more warmth...even in the split sounds. Thanks Phillip, for the great video as always.

Phil, really liked this review. I think too many guitar companies focus on the old sounds and spec'ing the guitars that way. There's a bigger need to have a fresh and original sound, that means having the equipment to do it. So the old look with modern features is a good way to go.

Someone just mailed me one after I was in a bad car wreck - haven't been able to find out who. I had to tighten the truss rod maybe 2/3 of a turn, raise the action a millimeter or so, and BAM! Tone city. This one is a goldtop - Schecter website says the fretboard is ebony, but it's more like good rosewood. Thanks for the walkthrough - I was able to notice a couple of things (i.e., compound neck profile) that I hadn't picked up on. Good review.

I bought a Custom Shop S-style from Schecter in '99. LA made. The craftmanship is top notch ! It plays and sounds just right. I had about a dozen S-types since `69, most of them the big F. None of them could keep up with the Schecter.

Most people can agree that Schecter is one of the best bang for the buck guitars on the market. The hardware, pickups, playability, along with the fit & finish for the price point is hard to beat. As for modern takes on Telecasters, the Charvel Pro Mod San Dimas Style 2 is amazing and is near the same price point as the Schecter PT. The Charvel Style 2 has the forearm contour, belly cut, 12-16 compound radius, Seymour Duncans or Fishman Fluence pickups, Locking Tuners & Roasted Maple Necks w/ Oil finish that play like butter. They're just awesome guitars!

I've had a PT Fastback since April of 2013. Not technically new for 2020 but the updates they've done since I bought mine are really nice. Watching this makes me wish I took better care of mine. It sounds amazing but has taken a beating. A workhorse for sure.

Always went for higher end Fenders/Gibsons but have been getting pretty fed up with their BS and started looking at alternatives and have found a couple I absolutely love. I just recently purchased the same one in a gold top and it absolutely rocks, like it just as much if not more than any Telecaster I own. You hit the nail on the head, modern features with a vintage vibe, hard to beat that combo. I tried a couple Eastman's as well, purchased them and got rid of a few Gibsons. Point is there are a lot of alternatives to the two top dogs and more often than not a better option.

Schecter guitars have always been a great value. Back in '05, I was ready to purchase a standard Strat at GC for $350, but I came across a Gryphon that was $399, Korean-made, had a string-through body, a flamed maple top with a caramel finish, and duncan designed humbuckers. Went with the Schecter Gryphon and never looked back. 17 years later, it's still my go-to guitar.

I think that someone started selling used guitars as "Vintage", all guitar makers and stores raised the prices high. While shopping for a guitar in the early 80's I was talking to a shop owner when he told me that the Fender in the enclosed glass display case that I was standing next to was $6,000.00. Why I asked? Because Clapton was in his shop, picked it up, and played a few parts of Layla and some blues scales on it. Clapton bought something then left the store. The original price on the tag of the Strat was $449.90. Although quality is everything with any instrument, some builders have priced themselves out of customers. One thing I know for a fact. A well built guitar play's and sounds wonderful to the ears. Learning and understanding how to play makes that step up to an expensive guitar everything. Start with a lower priced instrument and learn to play it well. Save a little money along the way until all of your friends tell you how good you are. Then buy that Gibson "Hummingbird". When you hear yourself playing that instrument you'll blush, then when you hear everyone around you clapping you know that your dream has come true.

Since you asked, I almost bought this guitar. The specs are *exactly* what I look for. I went with a LP variant because I prefer the 24.75" scale. One point, and please don't @ me: A few brands are doing pickups that look like Filtertrons. They aren't 'trons. Dylan Talks tone will back me up on this. Excellent guitar! The "standard" configuration is comfortable, it's familiar. The upside is filtertrons w/split coils and a flat neck w/jumbo frets. It gives you viable alternative or addition to a deluxe.

Hi, Phillip, I discovered Schecter after you recommended them as one of the best companies for making a good selection of left-handed guitars, and you were right. I fell in love with a pink lefty Nick Johnston guitar that I'm saving up for, and it's a lot like the guitar you just showcased in that it looks a lot like a strat, but it has some more modern features and it's similar in price to the mid-range strats or even slightly cheaper, and well, Fender doesn't currently have any affordable pink lefty strats. I like classic guitar shapes with subtle but useful modern features and upgrades.

Great demo Phillip. I really like my Schecter guitars. I have two of them and love the quality in craftsmanship and sound of both. One is their bottom rung C6 Deluxe a $300 guitar in which has flawless build quality and plays really well. The second I bought is their PT SPECIAL in the three color Sunburst with a single could bridge and P90 neck configuration with a push/pull pot to change them from series to parallel. It also has C shaped neck instead of the thin C and a 12" radius finger board. This South Korean made beauty is such a pleasure to play and ,again, a beautifully crafted instrument. The one you played in this video will be my next purchase except in the White . I'm not big on black guitars for they show every speck of dust, lent, and finger prints much too well for my liking. But to each their own on color choices. I'm glad to see you doing on vid on this guitar at this time for I'm only about a couple of weeks away from doing that purchase. Totally looking forward to playing it when I get it home. Thanks Phillip for all you do for the guitar communitu. I especially like your maintenance/ luthier type videos. I really like that they put the knobs out of the way for fast rhythm strumming and I love the sound of Filtertrons. The one thing I can't buy anywhere is a slightly wider string spacing. I'm a Travis picking monster with a Taylor style acoustic, but my fingers a just a little too fat for Travis picking my Tele. My LP is almost wide enough. Another 2 mm would do it.

I have a Schecter Stiletto Stage 4 bass and absolutely love it... I traded someone straight up for a Jackson SLX X-Series Soloist that I found at a pawn shop for $150. Want familiar with Schecter at all until I traded and now it's become my go to bass. Sounds awesome, plays great, feels amazing and the quality was way better then some of my more expensive basses...

2020 might be the year guitar manufactures all recognized the Les Paul. It seems to be the year that the design elements of the Les Paul started being incorporated into other styles more than ever before. Holy Poop! Once you started playing it I instantly fell in love with it. It sounds like every setting is beyond just usable. Every setting sounds BEAUTIFUL! I have a cheap $200 Schecter Damien from many years ago, one of my first guitars. I picked it up the other day and was blown away at the quality of the thing. Seems as though those EMG Hz pickups were designed for solid state amps because the guitar sounds great on my Yamaha Thr30ii, but not so good on my Blackstar tube amp. I recommend Schecter to everyone who is in the market for that entry level guitar.

Phil, I have not considered Schecter before I saw this PT review. I am not a schredder style player and thought this to be another screamer guitar until you switched to the Fender amp and a clean sound. That really demonstrated the kind of sound I like. I would be interested to know what magnets are used in these "warmer" 'tron style PUPs. I have heard you talk about liking Alnico II and I have a custom set in a partscaster I built with Planet Tone PUPs. I have a Fender Strat USA made and like the tone of the warmer Alnico II in the Planet Tones a lot better. These PT guitar PUPs remind me of that warmth. I will have to give this guitar a closer look. BUT, you almost lost me with the initial amp hookup with all the attack and distortion. I want to hear a CLEAN guitar in a review, not somebodys pedal train. Cool to add at the end, but you almost lost me with the initial distortion. If it is so loud and distorted you have to put the amp in another room, you could be beating any piece of pawn shop junk. A clean signal is always the starting point. If I know what that sounds like I can take it from there. Love the reviews. Keep it up.

I think Schecter guitars have always been a good value because you get more options for the money then some of the other companies offer. I actually bought a Fender Strat a few years ago because of you saying how much you like them. You were right and now I have 2 Strats and a Tele. I personally don't want a slimmer neck then my Fenders but I can see why someone would prefer that.
