All of Schechter‘s guitars are set up in the US before they go out to the dealers. That’s why whenever I go to guitar shop at want to check out an amp I always grab a Schechter. Great company.

Might be worth a brief mention that the PT stands for Pete Townshend who played a Schecter tele style in the early 80s.

YES! FYII just heard the backstory about that in a Schector Bass video. Schecter was a parts & performance shop, not makers per se. They had a reputation for "souped-up" and "hot rodding" instruments with their superior parts etc. So...Pete Townsend had built a schecter Tele from parts and toured with it. After that, schecter started making guitars and made the PT. Townsend never was sponsored by Schector, hence the PT, not Pete Townsend models. That said, it's quite the testament that Townsend wasn't paid to play em, but did when any guitar maker would have paid big $ to get his name. 👍

Great review, Darrell! (I enjoy all of your reviews). Been a drummer for 55 years and due to spinal complications, I'm finally moving over to guitar. I've had some beautiful acoustics and electrics but had to sell them when the market tanked in '09. I've been looking for one guitar that would do most anything, an all-around work-horse for a good price, mostly to play at home and with a few friends down the road. This guitar checks all of the boxes while looking great, sounding great, and it looks very comfortable to play. Plus, if I ever dropped it or dinged it I wouldn't be freaking out like with some $2,000.00+ guitar. I really like it and thanks for the thorough and excellent review! Michael ~ Santa Barbara, Ca.

I have to say, I really like these. I was never really a schecter fan. there is nothing wrong with them, I've always just seen them as metal guitars and not my style. I've always been a Strat player. I've worked on countless Teles, but only actually got one for myself a couple years ago. I decided I wanted to do a "sessions"- type guitar, I haven't actually done any sessions for a decade but I wanted something I could grab to cover anything I might end up playing, and Teles are IMO designed for that. I wanted to do an H-S layout with vintage output pickups and install a preamp in it for higher output and to change up the EQ. I wasn't going to buy a Fender to do it because I wasn't planning on paying for a US model, but I really dislike the heavy polyester finish on the MIMs so I looked at other brands. First I looked at G&L but the bodies were either poplar or basswood or something like that so that was out. The ESPs also had some materials I didn't like and while even the 12" radius on the Schecter was a bit flatter that I wanted, especially with the huge frets, the ESP was close to 14" and I didn't like the chambered routing up at the neck pocket area. With the Ash body, vintage still bridge and more traditional looks I decided on this, the black one. I really thought it looked killer and actually wanted something with a more Strat type belly contour. The routing for the pickups allowed me to put in the preamp without all the routing I thought I was going to have to do, plus while this is a bit neck heavy, with the preamp and battery it balances really well. I went with a Lollar Filtertron type Humbucker for the neck *(side note: due to the fact that those type pickups are MUCH lower output than a typical Humbucker, even compared to a PAF, and it's naturally brighter voice, I personally find them to be the best Humbucker to use in the neck with a singlecoil in the bridge) and Tele Special in the bridge (a slightly lower output Texas Special). I had to do a some cutting and filing to get everything to for properly, but at the end of the day, this thing was perfect for what I wanted. I say that for the price relative to design and quality, I find these to be a much better choice than any of the Fenders in the same class.

I don't like to be a "wiring Nazi", but a series/parallel switch would do nothing with just a single pickup engaged. The pickup should just be sent to the volume and tone controls. Only when both pickups are selected should series or parallel wiring even be noticed. The same thing also applies to phase switching.
@ranger_a6953
@ranger_a6953 4 жыл бұрын
Yes, agreed. The only thing that would make any difference is if the pickups are actually split coil, and the switch changes each one from parallel to series individually. I have an old SG with a split DiMarzio installed and it works like that. It has a three way selector for even more options too. Single coil, parallel HB and series HB
@77fonebone
@77fonebone 3 жыл бұрын
Nah. He had it correct. When you are wired in parallel the signal has a much shorter distance to travel because its going from the selected pickup straight through to the pots while when in series the signal has to travel from one pickup to through the other regardless of which pickup is currently selected. It creates more resistance in series and thus changes the tone from the parallel wiring. There is a great article on it on haloguitars.

You’ve got me confused. Why would the “bridge pickup in the ‘in series with the neck pickup’ setting” sound different from the “neck pickup in the ‘in series with the bridge pickup’ setting”? I thought series/parallel switching only applied when both pickups are on (3-way switch in middle position). (Hope you can follow that. Will restate if necessary.)
@Lowtech14
@Lowtech14 4 жыл бұрын
MattWhatsGoinOn Not sure but my guess is it engages series wiring, with the same resultant sound, from any toggle position. The tonal difference is greatest when done when toggle is on bridge position , and least from neck position.
@byronofcalgary6985
@byronofcalgary6985 3 жыл бұрын
both have the same pickups in series - what's diff is which comes first the last one will prob sound clearere than the pickup acting as a preamp. Speaking of pickup output... the lower one first will provide a cleaner tone. Just like your gain + vol dials on an amp are in Series ... bridge pickups are usually higher output to compensate for weaker signal from string so close to bridge A biased set of pickups in a strat have 3 diff ohm readings.

@@TheRycooder Hey man ! Honestly I can't answer that question considering I've never played nor handled a MIM. Sorry Hooter Bear. I have an '02 Tradition CAB10 Tele that i already previously installed a 4-way switch and the factory-installed G&B Alnico 5 bridge pickup has plenty of bite, twang and snap @8.5K ohms; the P90 is fatter than Strat pickup which is fatter than a Tele neck pickup and that's how far I want it to be without resulting to a humbucking pickup and this Schecter has reinforced the P90 process to my guitar... great video by the way!

Adjustable neck and 2 way truss rod, (whatever that is...) So, even though I didn't like your tones, a great value, versatile guitar which is a very tempting alternative to a Mexican. I had a Schecter loaded pick guard on my Strat for years. The pickups sounded GREAT! Strat guys were always complimenting me on my tone. Those pickups eventually just fell apart (after about 25 years) and I replaced them with Fender Custom Shop pickups. The tone isn't nearly as good as the Schecter pickups.

I have the purple one. My only complaint is I must have gotten one where the nut was installed on a Friday at 4:15pm. It’s a mess. 3rd string slot is too wide and pings when I bend the string, the nut sticks out too far on both sides.

@jnorthrop70

@@Benke01 the guitar needs a 2nd string tree which I am installing. There is not enough tension on the nut. The bridge pickup is ice pick shrill and in order to get my amp dialed in to take the edge off, the neck pickup becomes a muddy mess.

Nice review on this one. My first guitar was a Schecter. Didn't know nothing about guitars back in those days but I felt in love right away with the guitar. This one sounds really good. I really like the colour and the binding. Dont have a tele right now and this one is certainly going to my list of guitar to get in the future!!!

@@iamdansimons He’s reviewed Yamahas, and while they also offer great quality for their price point, Darrell has shown where Yamaha cuts some corners with cheaper electronics and fretwork. As far as Charvel, they’re great if you’re into shred guitars. Reverends compare well with Schecter in terms of price/quality, but Reverends start at a higher price ($1000).

I adapted my self made Tele Deluxe into something similar to this Schecter. I bought a new scratchplate routed to take a Tele bridge single coil and a humbucker in the neck. For the neck pickup I've installed a humbucker sized P90 and it's a great combination that sounds very nice. I've always had wide range humbuckers on my Deluxe since I made it, but I've found myself wanting a traditional Tele sound but because I already own 9 guitars I didn't want to, nor could I afford to, buy another guitar. Then one day I had a brainwave that I could adapt my Deluxe just by buying a new scratchplate and changing the pickup routing on it, and luckily I found a seller on ebay who did just that 😎 So now I have my original scratchplate with the wide range humbuckers on it, and also the one with my new single coil configuration and I can just swap the scratchplates over when I feel like a change. What I might do next is buy another scratchplate (or maybe 2) and get them routed to take filtertron type pickups or maybe regular humbuckers to give me even more options for my Deluxe. I'm pretty sure that when I measured the pickup cavities there wasn't enough room for regular P90s otherwise I'd be getting a scratchplate made for those as well 😆 I still can't get over what a good idea I had, and if anyone reading this owns a Tele Deluxe, you can now effectively turn it into multiple different guitars by buying new scratchplates with different routing for different pickup configurations. Tele Deluxes must be the most versatile guitars you can buy. 👍
