Jeff Bezos's Amazon Project Kuiper took a small win with their two satellite internet constellation late last week. Now Jeff has 1,616 more satellites to put into LEO (Low Earth Orbit) before July 2026 and another 1,616 (3,234 total) by July 2029 to not lose his FCC license. Can't he do it? Thank you for the star link content. I am 77 and moved my wife closer to our child as a backup to my care. There’s no cable internet available here. Thanks to your content I have been able to first choose the right provider and install myself. As a caregiver I use the internet as my assistant and safety net as a caregiver. Again thank you.

They approved it because Competition is good. The other reason is because Starlink would have the Monopoly because Viasat and Hughes net are not that great. I can't speak of Viasat but Hughes Net charges for every minute that you use. so you basically must watch your usage. Now for Amazon to get this project off the ground, he is going to need all of the outside help he can get or get extremely hot with Blue Origin because his rockets are not flying. Case in point, SpaceX just launched another Falcon9 with more Starlink Satellites. He has another Falcon9 scheduled this week. From what I understand Jeff Bezos has purchased 3 rides on SpaceX to get his project off the ground which is kinda odd buying rides on his competitors rocket.

With 3 confirmed launch partners, we could see 3 simultaneous launches a week at peek but that's not sustainable with those partners. Doable, but by the time they're online they're fighting full V2 Starlink sats when Starship is viable in the near future, not sure it's a target Bezos will hit reliably.

To also add: as a Starlink customer... my bill has only once gone up. Mainly it went down though. 🤓 I was paying the $99/month at the start of the BETA, then briefly it did go up one month to $110, now I'm at $90/month. All that said, I think the mobile/maritime versions are a bit high right now, probably because the satellites spend most of their time over water not doing anything(because most of earth is water, lol) so that makes the system more expensive. All of this is why I just don't think that anyone or any other country, until they develop reusability like SpaceX, can really do what SpaceX is doing...it's too expensive initially, but also a lot of work to maintain. SpaceX has said that without Starship, Starlink won't work long term either.... so, there's that too.

I look forward to competition but I am not complaining about Starlink and frankly, don't have a lot of patience for the wieners that do. We are rural. Before Starlink, the only viable option for our location was 4G on the Verizon network. No other network supports our location. I had to pay as much for my 4G router and directional antenna setup as I did for Starlink and I paid $150 /month for genuine unlimited data. Sure, I would be happy if Starlink cost less but I choose to be their customer and am elated with the service.

Jeffie better be praying for Elon to get Starship operating because that is the only way he could get enough launch volume to meet the first deadline. There is no way that ULA, Arianna & BO can manage that amount of launch volume in the next 31 months, none of them have a current vehicle in service and at least BO & Ariann aren't even test flighting until mid to late next year at best. With ULA using BO's be4 engines BO would need to get their production to several engines per week.😅😂 That is IF they actually work when ULA manages to test flight them next month maybe.

I am all for competition, even between players I don't necessarily like all that much... having said that however, when it comes to Kuiper, given Bezos'/Amazon's reputation for censorship (and worse things), I have absolutely NO desire to see Kuiper succeed in any fashion. I think competition for SpaceX/StarLink would be a great thing, just not from the likes of Amazon / Bezos.
@mauricegold937711 ай бұрын
What's the point of having ANY Kuiper satellites in orbit if there is no heads-up on receiver hardware and prices? I suppose that the kit could be sold on Amazon, but additionally, the ground receivers must be inexpensive enough for customers to ignore Starlink and go with this new system. What if the kit is unreliable? What if it can't be built down to a price that rivals Starlink? And just how could Kuiper rival Starlink until 2029, if it has only a fraction of the number of Starlink satellites in orbit? And no-one should ignore space-weather: 46 Starlink satellite orbits were degraded before they became operational, due to a sun-storm causing the Earth's atmosphere to become temporarily thicker at altitude, forcing the satellites to be prematurely de-orbited. That was not the end of the world for SpaceX as they have a high-cadence launch capability, and could make up the shortfall in a week or less. Kuiper cannot do that. No-one even knows if Kuiper is designed for commerce or consumers. There is no thrilled anticipation of a rival for Starlink that may be cheaper, faster, more reliable, will work everywhere, even in contended cities. In my opinion, Amazon is not serious enough to try to test public and commercial opinion, because they are terrified that they will fail to get enough satellites into orbit in time. Maybe they will just offer the FCC a few billion dollars so as to not lose their licence in 2029. They can call it 'lobbying'. SpaceX have also gone the extra mile to try to ameliorate a number of issues: the first is the problem with the satellites causing issues for astronomers, which is being addressed with coatings on the satellites; the second is that Starlink satellites are constructed with active de-orbit capability at the end of their lives. In order to maintain and even improve on the number of and the performance of Starlink satellites, SpaceX even now has a high-cadence launch capability. Looking into the future, when Starship comes online, the improved V2 full-size Starlink satellites will have improved capabilities. Kuiper can offer none of that. Every single Kuiper launch is a nail-biter, and every launch requires the construction of a whole new rocket. There cannot be a high-cadence launch system, made even worse if Blue Origin cannot build reliable BE-4 engines.
@klm06259911 ай бұрын

To put another pin on Amazon... They have a HUGE climb a head of them. SpaceX had already had a reusable rocket system designed and validated prior to even attempting their network. Blue Origin (Amazon space arm... lol) hasn't even developed a rocket that has reached orbit yet, New Glenn. Not saying they can't but it took SpaceX more than 3 years to even land one of the first stages after they started going into orbit. Again, they have a HUGE hill to climb. i want say, he will probably surprise us at some point and really get things moving. but its not looking too promising. i don't know blur origin much and the progress record on that and Kuiper but doesn't seem like no boom of progress is ever gonna happened. it might be one them cases though, where things are done perfectly, taking the overall project take a while to really get moving, but since all the little things are perfect, that its one day, a wow effect. cause things a rolling extremely fast and smooth. cause all the fine details and small/big problems have been ironed out along the way. i think it will be like one of them deals. might be something that i know a little about. when i finally create something that i've been wanted to do, i get caught up along the way, trying to make sure the ins and outs are full proof. aren't gonna be screwing me up later and slowing me down and pissing me off lol... it or Bezos's thing here might be more like that. not a sudden progress boom and suddenly you see all this stuff getting done in a short time frame. what im saying is, Bezos might be seeming to take a while, but when his shi8 is really ready to boom and launch. he might surprise us and be sending up 100 per launch but only doing one great launch per mothing for 6 months and then another boom...doing 300 per month. personally, im rooting for that, that would be pretty sweet to see. i use to wanna rag on Bezos. but in recent years, i like the fact that the guy puts insane shi8 loads of people to work, and around the world taboot. and doing so, all them people and guys can provide for their families and such. i treasure that about these mega money stars, billionaires. the right alot of their wrongs for how much good the actually do, do. through mass employment.
