This is why Trisha is exhausting: She accuses this young woman Nin of trying to make money off of Trisha's video, when I'm quite sure it was explained that Nin only heard about the video because Trisha used her, by name, as an example of someone with DID - *and called her crazy* - in her video exploiting the diagnosis for money. Trisha's best argument of experiencing altered states is that her own brain cannot handle how exhausting, contradicting and repulsive her behavior is.
@tiredofitall9213

DissociaDID has been around for well over a year, I think almost 2 years. Nin and others were interviewed by Anthony Padilla. All of the sudden Trisha makes a video on her self diagnosis. Trisha is so full of herself is disgusting. I have never followed her, but I can't stand even to watch a full minute of any of her vids!

Zoe Wynne plus: trisha accusing Nin of making literally TWO videos for views where in both she (and kyle) are very hurt and stressed about the whole situation, while trisha made way more than the videos she posted on youtube since she went on a violent rant on her instagram stories too.

Tired of it All it’s so obvious that she watched anthony’s video and saw another opportunity to be a piece of shit and insert herself where she doesn’t belong 🙄 i hate saying shit like “she doesn’t have this disorder” because we can’t really say, but when you’re someone with the constant behavior of inserting yourself on marginalized communities *for views* and admitting to being a troll, yeah it’s extremely unlikely she’s telling the truth. EDIT: also having any disorder isn’t an excuse to be a piece of shit asshole like trisha.

I'm so glad that I'm not the only one who lost it when he said, well just about everything, with such a (mostly) straight face. I actually laughed so hard I cried almost as much as she did in her video. Thank you Dr. Grande, you made my night! I didn't want to watch Trisha's video of her "switching alters" because I didn't want to give her the view but I caved and watched one of her weeping videos and then just had to watch the jacka** in action and was completely disgusted. I want to have sympathy for her because she's obviously unwell but just can't muster it. This is a plea to anyone who is actually still willing to associate with her, get her some help and drag her a** away from the camera! I used to think watching Teletubbies with my children was going to be the most mind numbing experience of my life; I was wrong.

I can’t remember which of the H3 podcast clips she says it in, but it’s in the same podcast she talks about Anthony Padilla, Ethan mentions how she had “retired” from YT and then posted all these vids. She responded that she had already filmed a bunch of videos before that announcement on things that are “trending”. Really seems like she thought DID was a trending topic and saw a cash grab... 🙄

It makes me angry to know that if she did have the disorder she'd keep the little in the video. Nin talked about how they are extremely protective over their little alters and that they rarely show them to keep them safe, and Trish just put them forward like that. I know she most likely doesn't have the disorder, but it's annoying how misinformed she is, and how many people she's offending.
@bbrstrc
@bbrstrc 4 жыл бұрын
The Passenger Well the littles are the most vulnerable part of a system, they're just children and could get really naive (esp some that don't age), think protecting your baby from predators and harsh realities. Obviously some are more open than others when it comes to their littles but generally they're really really protected at all costs.

I have to say- my mom has DID... and the idea of "switching" so often- or on command- is ludicrous. My mom would often stay with one alter for days at a time- making her life (and those around her) very difficult. She was unable to ever have a job. She could not remember days at a time. She would "wake up" after switching and think that strange alternate timelines had occurred. These videos are so upsetting to watch. Honestly- I don't (personally) know a single person undergoing treatment that would want to make a video of what their life is like alternating between alternates. I don't know how this disk became "sexy", but I promise you... it is not. Not at all. It's not seem to wake up in the middle of the night and have your mother thinking you had died or been taken. It's not seem to watch her having seizures at the bus stop due to psychotropic medications used to "control" her illnesses. It's not sexy to watch her stealing and know that it's not right, but there's nothing you can do about it. It's not sexy to grow up knowing that this is as good as it gets for her. To those of you faking- you're doing so much damage, so much disservice to the people really facing this disorder.

I was diagnosed with DID and I agree with everything you said. I wake up in the middle of the night unable to recognize my surrounding, feeling like I'm a prisoner in my own home. I have looked at my partner's face and couldn't figure out who they were. I often thought I had early onset alzheimers and I'm in my 20s! I had break downs because I was so scared that one day I would forget everything and everyone I loved. I dissociate so much and my anxiety is sickening. I can't breathe correctly when I leave the house because I am so afraid of the world. I've only been able to manage 1-2 days a week at work and i dread having to leave the house to make my shift. I've had so many jobs because I have terrible fears that my colleagues hate me and actively sabotage me. I hate that this disorder has the reputation that it has because people romanticize it. I love some of my alters but I have had moments where I was screaming for them to "stop talking to me I don't want to be this way". It took so long to get a proper diagnosis because malingering makes this disorder so damn controversial. No one wants to diagnose and treat for it because the odds of being wrong are so damn high. It's like every other teen has it now because it's fun. It really breaks my heart. (I apologize for any typos. I can't be asked to go back and re read it. I'm already so angry.)

It only takes one “fake” to put a shade the entire community of legitimate claims. We’ve seen this in sexual assault too. What upsets me, is that I was diagnosed with DID when I was 27, I am 40 now.. my first couple different diagnoses were Borderline Personality disorder and Bipolar Disorder. DID isn't something that is fun or easy to deal with. It's not something that is glamorous. It actually ruins lives. I have lost my children, I can't hold down a job, I've lost my family, and my husband doesn't understand it. We are almost always fighting. I hardly ever look in the mirror because I don't recognize my own reflection! Literally! Yet people are making videos of themselves? How? @missymani I don’t think they meant to prove she was faking it or not. I think they just meant that DissociaDID did not create her channel as a part of a recent “trend” like Trisha Paytas videos seemed to be created for. As to whether she is faking it or exaggerating it. I don’t know for certain but she seems incredibly sincere from the content I have watched. She presents science based evidence (though only the kind that prove it’s existence), encourages people to treat those with DID with kindness and not like they are from the movie Split; and discourages people from thinking that it is cool to have DID. It just seems very different from what I would consider someone “faking” a disorder would be like. Trisha’s videos seem a lot more like what someone faking would act.

Nin is professionally diagnosed and has named her doctor who diagnosed her. She frequently links scholarly articles which she uses to make educational content about DID. She frequently lets us know that she does NOT relish in the fact that she has the disorder. Trisha called Nin crazy so she responded. Also you really should watch Anthony Padillas video on DID which features an interview with Nin. That video is what made Trisha release her “meet the alters” video and it seems as though she saw that attention that that video was getting and decided to hop on the bandwagon. Nin has made an incredibly educational reaction video to Trishas meet the alters video that I also suggest you watch. There is much more back story here that you need to be educated on.

Dr. Remy Aquarone is actually not licensed to diagnose DID, or any other mental health disorder. He's a psychotherapist, not a psychiatrist. They also diagnose 90% of patients who take their assessment (which has been challenged so much in the psychiatric community that only 2 facilities in all of the UK utilize it, one of which is the Pottergate Centre that Dr. Aquarone is the director of), and 60% of those they diagnose with DID, while only 10% they diagnose with more common disorders such as depersonalization disorder and derealization disorder. So many people come here to challenge a PhD clinician supervisor for saying that dramatizations/sensationalizing depictions of DID of this nature are commonly suspected to be malingering disorder, and not truly DID, because they don't match up with what the very rare authentic cases of DID look like.They more closely resemble media portrayals and miss less common, more debilitating aspects that aren't accounted for in those media portrayals, even ones based on true stories. The most publicized cases of DID, which happen to look very much like the ones Dr. Grande is discussing, over history have been proven to be fabrications, the most famous example being that of Sybil. He doesn't infer that she is or isn't faking or has or does not have the disorder, he simply is stating that he doesn't know, which is the ethical thing to do. It's his job to scrutinize and hold clinicians accountable for providing proper diagnoses and treatment plans. He's not going to say that either of them have or do not have this, because he's not treating either of them.

@AuroraCalifornica
@AuroraCalifornica 4 жыл бұрын
@@kategodfrey910 I already covered that Remy Aquarone is not licensed to diagnose mental disorders and illnesses. His standpoint is that her behavior does not match what you would typically see with someone with a dissociative disorder. Almost anyone can go to Pottergate and get a dissociative diagnosis because they ignore the fact that *everyone* dissociates, and they do not also consider the diagnostic criteria of evidence of prolonged childhood trauma (which is generally overwhelming because of childhood sexual abuse). They also ignore detachment from primary givers as a requirement. As a private practice, parents are often the ones lovingly supporting and footing the bill for treatment, and, like Nin's parents, are desperate to understand what they missed or did wrong. Typically, a clinician who assesses someone without evidence of sustained childhood trauma and broken parental relationships will rule out dissociative disorders at that point. They use a self-reporting diagnostic questionnaire and a chat with a psychotherapist that takes ~4 hours. You will be hard-pressed to find a mental health professional in the UK that isn't associated with one of these two clinics (Pottergate and the one in London) that will acknowledge that she is "professionally diagnosed". That being said, I'm not sure without discussing with Nin and her psychiatrist (if she had one) if he would acknowledge she had the disorder, or that she had been diagnosed. Many clinicians, like he alludes in his video, find channels like hers to be problematic. Mentioning that she believes she was professionally diagnosed would validate something clinicians don't want to validate.

And because of that, it seems damaging to focus on keeping the mind split and shattered, instead of showing the progress of bringing the pieces back together. It reminds me of someone who says they want to keep some of their aspects of their eating disorder, but that they have found a healthy way to live with it.

felt like listing the reasons why i'm still mad about his whole "situation": 1. trisha really went and MOCKED a little from Nin's system who fronted on Anthony Padilla's video. it was super obvious and disrespectful. 2. also her "defending herself" when Anthony called her out. so, yeah. 3. her implying that the one "faking it" is Nin 4. her still defending herself with something along the lines of "nobody know what's going on inside my head" 5. the f-ing thumbnail on her "switch caught on camera" thing 6. also shes know for being a "youtube troll", but the diSRESPECT IS UNBEARABLE. 7. in her "coming out as ftm transgender" video, she literally said that she had a problem with they/them pronouns because it sounds like "multiple people", then all of a sudden referring to herself as we/us. like, b*tch, make it make sense! 8. the thousand "switches" she had on the "switch caught on camera" thing. wasn't it supposed to be just one?? 9. Nin and her system do NOT deserve any of this. for years she's been trying to breaking the stigma around this disorder just for a fake tanned b*tch to come and f-ing claim it 10. i have a lot more reasons but im tired of typing. also nobody is going to read this lmao. i'll leave now. this is a mess and a half but at least i'm done ;-; ps. obviously i also have to say that i loved the subtle roast so i subscribed(:

As someone who has been diagnosed by a medical professional with DID I am angered when it is sensationalized. What many people don't understand is the absolute horrors someone has to go through for personalities or alters to form. For myself they were a blessing helping me to go away while the sexual abuse occured. My switching is never very obvious. For me they have been like assistants helping me navigate through my life and recovery. I have absolutely no idea why it is so interesting to have DID. I struggle every single day despite having an amazing treatment team. I wish people would realize to get DID you have to suffer horrific abuse. They help you cope. I can't see myself ever switching on camera. They aren't for entertaining the world through ridiculously offensive videos. Thanks for your great videos. I enjoy them and often learn a lot.

Nin explained in a few videos why she uses clickbait titles like "switch caught on camera" or "triggered on livestream". She prefers not to use those titles, but she still has to make money and those titles make a video very interesting to click on. Calling DissociaDID a "switching channel" doesn't feel right to me. Yes they do switch on camera but that's not what their channel is about. It's about education and insights in a life with DID. They are more than just a "switching channel", this just feels like minimizing their content to clickbait. (I didn't mean to sound rude or anything, I really liked the video)

Dr. Grande, this whole thing where Trisha started "claiming" that she has DID (I use the word claiming because I don't know if she actually does or not) all started when a popular KZbinr named Anthony Padilla posted a video about interviewing people/systems with DID, one of those interviewees were Nin, DissociaDID. The video was fairly popular. Trisha saw that it was popular and hoped on the band wagon and with that called Nin, DissociaDID a person/system who's been diagnosed with DID crazy. Nin and her system, along with Anthony Padilla found out about that particular video and have called Trisha out on it, saying that it's hurtful to people with DID. Trisha then posted a video on Instagram (I think) yelling and screaming at Anthony and Nin, cussing them out about it. That's the summary of the KZbin drama. And I ask for you to not go to Trisha's channel because that gives her the views that she wants and does not deserve. Please do checkout Anthony's video on DID, it will help you see how Nin and her system works. And once you see that video (which was posted before any of Trisha's DID videos) you will be able to tell that Trisha was mimicking Nin and her system, further hurting Nin's system and the rest of the DID community.

I have been diagnosed with emotional BPD, GAD and cPTSD, I hear a commentary through my head, not voices with definable characters but they are what I believe to be dissociative thoughts. The thoughts are always negative, they always tell me things that are beyond my control. Interesting when I went under general anaesthetic for 6 hours the thought went away for an entire week, the silence was bliss until I left the hospital. Interactions outside seemed to jolt me, and the thoughts found a way through again. I have had huge trauma all my life, from childhood all through to adulthood. The thoughts I have never surfaced into personalities, nor do they go into places and talk to each other. I just like to say to others going through these problems that there are coping mechanisms to get you through this, and there is a way to solve these problems, and as people who suffer them, I believe it is us that can heal ourselves from them. Love your videos Dr Todd, your awesome, thank you for the time you put into your channel. Mental health is the last sigma to be conquered.

It hurts me to hear people telling me that I’m faking or people pretend to have seizures because it ‘looks funny.’ It’s actually incredibly embarrassing and uncontrollable (don’t get me started on the time I seized while on a stage in a dress in front of 20+ people). In all seriousness, D.I.D isnt a fun "ooh i have friends or pals in my head. Or I'll just switch out and have this alter do the dishes and i can come back and do whatever. Or this is the angery/sad one" no. Its scary and confusing. It causes other symtoms too like headaches, body aches, dizziness, confusion, fear, denial. A lot of people spend YEARS feeling confused and alone because they're UNAWARE they even have the disorder and dnt know whats going on with them. It's not like "oh! I woke up today and now i have pals" no. Its a long and confusing ride. Communication varies system to system. it is absolutely a frusterating and terrifying disorder, especially if you dont have the knowledge or reassurance of what DID actually is and how to manage it safely. I spent 11 years in denial while being able to communicate with 1 of my alters. We kept it a secret because we refused to believe we were "crazy" 11 years of silence and fear and confusion. There were plenty of times i discredited my own alter as being real. Invalidating myself out of fear and confusion. So its not as simple as suddenly you're fully aware of alters and innerworlds and switches. It's a disorder. It's real. And no one should fake it. Because they didn't go through the trauma it took to have the disorder. Be smart about things guys. Please.

I can relate, we hid in fear for a while and when we told some friends it was a terrible feeling. A few wanted to have the disorder because it looked cool and the rest thought it was all just a big joke. As much as DID can look fun on the surface.... it’s just problem after problem after problem. Oh yeah I’m the host and have called my alters fake many times as well so this is really relatable. Anytime my friend wanted us to explain why it wasn’t cool we couldn’t really explain it because he said he’d be okay with having trauma and I had no way to tell him how scary the trauma or even the disorder was before we had good connection so he ended up trying tulpamancy, we haven’t spoken to him since... On top of this there’s people who fake it which make people think that it’s something to envy someone for having.

I'm writing a book, and one of my characters has DID (the book is not about DID, because I do not qualify to write a book about something I do not experience, but there is a character within the book who has it; the book is not centred on their DID, but rather includes it), so I would like to perform more research before putting certain things in it... So with this in mind, I can;t fathom how she’s able to dissociate so easily and so much so that she could catch it on camera, the whole idea of DID is that they experience amnesia with these episodes, so can she set up to film it? Unless I’m highly missing the mark in some way and attaching my own experiences of mental health and dissociation too much, I can’t see how it’d be possible for HER to catch the alters on camera? I could understand someone else catching it, but not herself. If she’s forcing an alter and aware of their presence, doesn’t that sort of go against a DID diagnosis? Since they experience amnesia? She’s very smart and honestly seems quite manipulative, in my impression of her. I do at least like that her channel is educational and raises awareness for this condition, at least she’s doing something good with it even if it’s a bit sus. It seems more attention-seeking to me, or at least, something she consciously does to separate herself from things.

@@asassynation9955 yeah well, as I said it's hard to tell but I believe her. I've had some dissociative episodes, nothing regular so maybe it's different but i just felt kind of exhausted for a few hours after and that was it. I'd imagine there is an extremely wide range of experiences when it comes to symptoms like that, and maybe you can even get accustomed to it when you have something like DID. Also seems like you might have other exhausting symptoms in your episodes that might add to that? idk (wish you the best for that btw, i'd recommend some practices if i would know you irl lul) For your other points i'd be going off of what she said in videos, so idk if that's convincing, but it doesn't seem unreasonable for a person with DID to be aware of their other alters and even start cooperating with them. I think she could totally set up to film, especially if her other main alters know what she's doing and just continue her actions or at least dont delete and break stuff. it's also not like she can't be aware of the other alters and therefore can't catch them on camera, she just can't be aware of the memories those alters protect, and they probably won't share those on camera, and even if they do and she hears some of it, i assume she would immediately start to dissociate and switch to the alter that deals with that memory. Idk, in the end i just don't really get why you would go through all that struggle to fake having an intense illness like that, i think there's easier ways to get views

@@vincnt0169 You make some very good points! And like I said, maybe I’m attaching my own experiences to it a bit too much because you’re right, I suppose you could become accustomed to the dissociative episodes if they happened that often, I don’t doubt that! My own dissociative episodes are thankfully not all that often, they get triggered with extreme stress or distress, and yes, I always feel like I have an awful hangover and mostly sleep for a few days afterwards. I find it horrifying and scary, to be honest. I don’t know how people can make a whole channel around this stuff! I’d never want to keep reliving that dissociation time after time! To my understanding of DID (though, I’m open to correction!) is that it involves amnesia and to my knowledge, their dissociative episodes are usually triggered as well - but, I could be wrong. I don’t have the disorder myself, so can’t comment too much on it - only on what I see - my opinion comes more from my gut feeling about her, she seems quite manipulative to me. I’m not trying to be judgemental, I’m just reserving some caution. It does seem plausible too, that she could have it but is exaggerating it as well? I do think she is maybe exaggerating for clicks if nothing else. Like I said, at least she’s doing something good with this and is very smart and informative and raising awareness, so I do at least respect her for that, it was probably well needed. When is it “dissociation” and when is it “imagination” - I agree, difficult to tell.

What can say from professional and personal experience that this disorder is 100% real. There appears to be a fascination with DID lately, not sure why but any fakery in the media does not help those who live this battle every day. It’s not like the movies portray, that’s for sure.

I am also a professional who has 2 mental health diagnoses..not DID but OCD and Generalized Anxiety..at one time I also had a psychotic break due to trauma I experienced that landed me in the psych hospital and jail..I literally lost my mind and went from calm..threatening suicide ..to fighting two police officers in a psychotic break with no drugs or alcohol involved. I am going to say this..cause some people need to hear it..especially professionals..if you have to say "managing my role with this disorder is difficult" I question your ability to perform your role. I did 3 years of deep intense therapy and stopped working in the field to get to a place where I knew I could be a competent counselor and manage my symptoms in a healthy manner. I still have OCD and GAD but it is not difficult for me to handle it and be a counselor. We have too many untreated or under treated counselors in this field who are doing serious damage to clients and damaging the work done by competent counselors. You can have a diagnosis and be a counselor but work on yourself first and get to a place where you can handle your symptoms most of the time in a healthy manner..we all have bad days and hard times. It just frustrates me when I see other counselors who need help themselves offering services and hurting clients..nothing personally against you.

Recently I've seen DID used as a mechanism to validate their own trauma and invalidate that of others. I recently stumbled upon a discord server full of people claiming to have DID. I've been told on multiple occasions that my trauma is not as bad as theirs, because I "merely" have CPTSD. I personally don't feel affected by their words, but a lot of other users did. They suddenly started claiming to have DID, multiple alters and episodes just to have their trauma acknowledged. This is just a reminder to not gatekeep trauma. It's not a competition. Not necessarily saying that they don't have DID, but almost every single person having a PTSD diagnosis started claiming to have DID. There was a lot of ostracizing towards non-DID persons.

Exactly. We and one other system (both diagnosed) have pretty similar system structure but the difference is trauma and members. Also the number of alters. Ours stands at 12 alters, most of whom never front while they have 50+ (idk haven’t counted) and since they are still going through stuff it changes all the time. We still struggle and I (Jynx, the current host) am a fusion and a lot of us are not the first “version” of ourselves because people grow and change.

This "switch caught on camera" began as an exercise to normalize the switching in DID because it can be terrifying and vulnerable and often people with DID hide their switches. People with DID felt validated seeing other people with DID and literally asked her to do more and to please leave the switches in the final video. There's one thing you kinda mentioned that brought this title in the first place: youtube's algorythm. Unfortunately click bait gets you views. Click per impression is highly valuable. Nin learned fast how to make her videos more clickable and attractive. "Meet my alters" is another click bait title that actually came out not exactly as click bait. You're spending time together and talking about something really deep and connecting. And suddenly you know someone is there, and they're pulling you away from the situation. You can almost watch your moment slip away and all the memory with it. And then your partner is spontaneously talking to your 5 year old alter. And if you're able to be co conscious you are watching all of it and you get no voice. You can just see what's going on and you're begging this 5 year old to let you talk and that it's your conversation... and if people have never seen this before they laugh, they get confused they think the 5 year old is a grown adult suddenly "acting crazy". They ask about meds or other issues and then they just don't treat the body or the alter with respect. And sometimes they don't understand or respect so much that they entirely stop talking to you once you're able to talk again. Or you just don't get any access to being co con and you have absolutely no idea where or what your body did a thing. And before you even know you have D.I.D. you think that you just "passed out" like predators will tell you. When really they learn that you get triggered and they really like to be sexual with your little. that's why its embarrassing.

Well that was savage. 😂 For what it's worth, DissociaDID cites the ISSTD treatment guidelines as the source of the claim that DID has a 1-3% rate of prevalence in the general population. The ISSTD treatment guidelines further claim that only 6% of people with DID make it obvious to outsiders, like in these switching videos. I can see how that would lead a skeptical clinician to believe that the true prevalence of DID is 6% of that 1-3%, or about .06-.18% of the general population. At the same time, it makes sense that this presentation would not be the only true presentation of DID, but rather an uncommon presentation, because the function of DID as it develops requires that it be undetectable.

With the 'advancement' of KZbin and other social media, More people are able to share their stories, learn about other peoples experiences, and become more comfortable about sharing things they felt only they experienced. This will bring many more cases to the forefront than before. this also has the added effect of people claiming they are what they aren't, whether they incorrect in their belief or deceptive in their claims. With the current 'trend' of people being more comfortable discussing their mental issues, there will be many more cases, and many more fakes. Only the person knows what they are experiencing or aren't. And if the Professionals who are supposed to help the people who think they need help are unwilling or unable to, we will never have accurate numbers on how many people actually have DID, and how many people who might think they have DID have something else, or how many people who claim to have a mental illness are just seeking attention , which is an illness in itself. It is hard enough to get a diagnosis of a Physical illness that doesn't have a visible sign. Until they have a machine that can show the doctor your pain, they don't believe you have it unless there is a visible sign of injury. If the Mind Doctors aren't even willing to consider that an illness is even real, how do you get help for it?

They shared SOME the HORRIFIC trauma and repeated trauma they went through as a child (CSA, COCSA, CP, Kidnapping, to name a few), and persistently while growing up through their teen years, all the way to the trauma they are suffering now as an adult. They didn't have to share that. No one should have to share such terrible facts of their life to prove their validation, or cry like that and be so vulnerable on camera, but Kya (formerly known as Nin, who runs the DissociaDID channel) did it anyway. Yes, their titles are clickbaity, but only to grab attention as they would most likely be lost to audiences otherwise. I've seen acting, I've seen fake tears, and those weren't fake, and I'll be damned thrice over if they were. Trisha -- we don't talk about Trisha. I'm 56 years old, and was officially diagnosed by a trauma specialist with DID about a month ago. It's only been in the last couple of years that I have been open about it with therapists and I have seen about 15 of them, over some 30 years. I didn't talk about my voices, bad memory, changes in perception; I just presented as someone with GAD, panic attacks and depression. I was too scared to tell the truth because I thought they would think Ivwas crazy. Because of this I was repeatedly misdiagnosed and because the disorder is constantly presented as 'controversial' and 'rare', therapists just didn't bother looking for it. I would also suggest that in the same way that those with a belief that this is real and prevalent and avoid negative articles, the same can be said about scientists and therapists who approach this with the belief that it is fake, rare, controversial, etc, they avoid articles which suggest significant results or deem them wrong, out of hand or don't give them a fair viewing. It goes both ways, meanwhile, people like me are caught in the middle. Dr Grande, I am a fan and I think you are a very good therapist, but you would have been on my list of therapists whom I would not have told my experience to, and misdiagnosed me, and continued to think it was a controversial and rare diagnosis, so rare that you would probably never see one. I'd be curious to know if you gave each ot your clients a DES-B what the result would be.

His critique over Nin's lack of counter-evidence is not saying that he doesn't believe them or isn't necessarily a critique that they don't know what they are talking about. It's just an academic would provide all of the perspectives in their research, including research that may seem counter to what they are trying to prove. So perhaps his critique is that as an educational channel he thinks that could be improved, and honestly maybe it would make for an interesting video. For sure though he is taking DID very seriously and compassionately.

And I just want to say that DID is as rare as people with Red hair. It’s about 1-2% but so few therapists study it it’s hard to find the expert that will properly diagnose you. I am so sorry it took so long to get your diagnoses and I hope you are doing so much better now.

Kirsten from what I can see I’m honestly not sure, some sites say that it was at one point but others say it’s becoming kind of more common. As beforehand, people with DID were often misdiagnosed with something like schizophrenia. Honestly though, I’m not sure. I would like to say it had started off as rare but over the years, as there are more psychologists growing familiar with it, it’s not so rare.

Im a bit disappointed... Nin literally links actual research to her videos... i don't think she or her system deserve to be in the same video as Trisha. Nin has been diagnosed, and does educate. I don't think it's fair to say she's not educating people. Her channel is very thorough, and is am amazing resource for people with mental health issues, not just DID. I didn't think i had it when i watched her, but i did relate to some of her experiences and found her to be inspiring and helpful, with lots of solid uplifting advice. Anyway, I'm not saying you dismissed her but i don't thon her channel is doing any harm, only good. People will always imitate things for attention. Runway doesn't mean those of us in tiny communities with different experiences should stay silent! Ugh.

“Did they die from embarrassment!” Oh you slayed me with that one!!!! Thank you for the information. I do feel NIN tries very hard to not make her channel a free for all. She has given her Dr ‘s name who diagnosed her and seems genuine. She talks about how these alters come from severe trauma as a young child and says it very scary and painful. The only reason she even brought up Trisha was because Trisha named her in a video and said she looked crazy. Anyway , thank you for you content. Love your channel. Love free m Alabama, USA ♥️

I’d like to note that Nin doesn’t display her switches as fun, she constantly states that it’s painful, disorienting, can be scary, and leaves her with a headache. You said there’s a lot of evidence against DID- do you have a video on that or anything?

Do your own independent research. Search for peer reviewed articles, there are tons out there on this disorder and the controversy surrounding it. Also, Nin absolutely does create entertaining and mediocre content surrounding DID. She also profits off of the content.

Marie Camille you seem incredibly biased and you cited no sources. Telling us to do our own research isn’t how science works. If you have evidence for your views and don’t feel like showing us then we don’t have to take you position as anything more than your biased opinion. Have a great day .

Nin and the system weren't allowed back to college by the university due to their disorder and couldn't continue their regular career. She began the channel on the premises of taking the stigma away and making the world more accepting of those with DID so that others like her wouldn't get discriminated against. Thus, she monetizes her videos as well to pay her bills. Your typical psychiatrist or therapist gets paid to help you, so why wouldn't she be allowed to that again?

I have to admit I thought DID was cool when I learnt about it and found all those switching videos interesting but people make use of the content for views and it's so sad to see information about DID falsely spread when there are channels only trying to promote awareness

@Olivia I agree but I was talking about professional opinions. Not all of them admit DID's existence. Plus there is no solid study around it, that's why there's hardly any proof. Also, I believe it's not entirely like how people at Tiktok and YT are claiming it to be.

Crucibelle i highly HIGHLY doubt this person is “faking the disorder”. if you’ve seen any of nin’s videos, you’d be able to see how genuine she (and the rest of the system) is. she also dives deep into explaining the science behind the disorder and tries to educate as much as possible, while debunking misconceptions about it.

I have been watching Nin's channel almost since the very beginning (before the integration Chloe was running the channel). I understand you could not possibly go through all of their videos, but I have. They did not start showing the switches for the views - their channel was extremely small when they started sharing and the system was just doing their best to explain what DID really was. For a person who have never experienced it - it is hard to understand the "switch". That is why they started to show it - just so people can understand (we can all agree that visual learning is very helpful). Nin and the entire system are very protective over showing switches on camera and clearly state that in almost all of their videos. Just wanted to mention that for clarification.

Hello Dr. Grande, I just wanted to share a personal experience on this topic. I’m a retired RN who worked in a large teaching hospital years ago. I was working on the psych. Ward one day and this hospital did get a few patients with true MPD, because one of the psychiatrists was considered an “expert” in the study and care of MPD. I was walking down the hall and glanced at a young woman sitting in the common area. I went in a room, did whatever, and when I came out, and passed this young woman the second time, I could tell she was someone different, without ever saying a word between us. Her entire demeanor and even her physical appearance had changed. And, to me, I was sure this new personality was a male sitting there. Just thought I’d share that with you as you might find it interesting.
