in terms of price to performance pure fire king is the best deck in a 30$ budget and tenpai would be a close second at 2 or 3x the cost. but keep in mind we are missing cards for both archetypes. Genroku, Dora Draco, Kaihou for Tenpai and Consort for Fire Kings which are all consistency cards. I expect both decks to perform way outside of their budget bracket.

Thats why a lot of times I think Ash Blossom is more of a side deck card. Most decks now are 1 card combos and in my opinion your generally better off just hitting a monster with a negate at those choke points because I find that the material your opponent gets is less important than making your opponent waste their one card combos trying to fight through your hand traps. Its kind of how with Branded you want your opponent to resolve Branded Opening and Aluber so that You can hit Branded Fusion with Ash Blossom. But because Ashing the field spell or that Bonfire isn't that good you want wait for that specific card or cards that either stops your opponent or places a big a enough cap on what they can make that will allow you to win.

As a person playing tenpai dragon, I find the handtrap approach a lot better because often your combos lose to 1 or 2 interruptuons yourself and make you miss lethal due to it so if youre conservative with your hand traps you can bring them into a weird grind game where they end on half boards and flip a turn skip since you can just draw so many of them. Its unfortunate that it doesnt feel like board breakers are the best approach though.

Today I learned about Runick Tenpai
@jacobwoodard8184 ай бұрын
In the TCG board breakers are better for Tenpai because it helps you play through your opponents interruptions. Tenpai doesn't want to have to go through hand traps and have to struggle with your opponents board at the same time. Its the reason why I said wouldn't make the deck unbalanced if they gave Tenpai a monster that does what Baidora does but can special summon itself for a cost because compared to Floowandereeze it desperately needs more help. Its win condition isn't really that toxic considering its more about Otks than mixing Otks with cards like Seals at the same time and what its go to do get there is darn near impossible without getting a out. Nibiru and Lava Golem should really take page out of Tenpais note book and learn how to do their jobs without taking the back and forth away or ban themselves for taking the back and forth away. You can run maybe 6 hand traps and Forbidden Droplets can be a replacement for your 7th,8th, and 9th hand trap. If you do it like this your less likely to get hand traps when you don't want them. The only thing is a lot of decks can use it. But there are decks that can't afford to lose 1 or more cards to Forbidden Droplets activation cost.

I made a Shaddoll Runick deck. The theory is that you draw so many cards that with Hedgehog Grysta and Shekhinaga are a lot better and because you go through so many cards that aren't going back to deck in one turn you'll see more of your Runick cards in your draws that much more. Winda is also a fantastic card for decks like Snake-Eyes. I like it because unlike Summon Limit I think its fair because it is vulnerable to cards like Kaiju's, Lava Golem, and Fenrir. Thats the genuine problem with floodgates. Spell/trap floodgates such as Summon Limit are bad for the modern format because we don't see spell/trap removal often enough when drawing our cards due to the modern format going away from spell/trap removal and you can't Kaiju or Lava Golem a Jowgen either. Maybe Arise-Heart wasn't fair but you could still use hand traps and board breakers to deal with it and the number of different cards you could use against full power Kashtira that was still good against everything else was pretty huge.
@valff57704 ай бұрын
What a horrible take. Winda is as bad for the game as summon limit. Yeah it has outs such as kaijus and lava golem (cards that nobody really plays right now) so what? Even summon limit can be outed by cyclone and you can use evenly to hurt stun decks (these are cards that people play more than kaijus). If you play winda get off your high horse, honestly you are no better than old runick stun players.
@jacobwoodard8184 ай бұрын
@@valff5770 Evenly can be used to get rid of Winda. Your argument doesn't disprove my statement that there are a higher volume of cards that are good into cards like Winda that are better into the meta than Cosmic Cyclone than spell/trap based floodgates and that suits modern Yugioh deck design better. You comment about Evenly made my statement stronger. The surprise factor makes spell/trap based floodgates a unhealthy existence in best of 1 formats and people playing stun decks are such a small minority of people who don't want these cards banned that Konami wouldn't lose money banning all of the spell/trap based floodgates and would make more money off the people who left because of spell/trap based Yugioh decks continued existence coming back. I'm using whats within the present rules of the game. Your just getting worked up from the thought of not having a space for casual extremists. There isn't single perfect person on this earth and if there aren't people to tell people what they need to hear instead of what they want hear the world would be way worse for it. I play Shaddoll Runick because I want Grysta and Shekhinaga to be good without running a bunch of really bad engine pieces. Winds I primarily only use to get the wins I have almost shot of getting without opening or drawing cards like Evenly or Forbidden Droplet , Snake-Eyes an Fire King Snake-Eyes can be one of them. Anyways feel free to come up another with a better argument. I'm sure you can up with something that at least makes you look like you know what your talking about.

A turn 2 deck is just never going to be the best deck. Mikanko has that ability, but it didn't win a YCS until it became a reliable turn 1 deck with the Ken & Gen + Acid Golem lock. There are just too many very powerful turn 1 decks to ever be a truly successful deck that needs to go 2nd. I mean, just look at the new Gimmick Puppet deck. Who knows how good it is going 2nd, but you can't let that deck go 1st or you have a very good chance of not even getting a turn. I think Tenpai in the context of master duel could easily be one of the best decks. because your ranked match-ups heavily rely on whether or not you win the coin flip. Tenpai can just ignore the coin flip most of the time. it also helps that your opponents cannot tell what deck you are playing until you play those cards.

@jeremiahriley663 yea that's been my though process as well. Just wouldn't mind seeing a discussion video on it

@@Matthew-he6idlook at the results of the latest japanese YCS, Tenpai was overall the best deck in that best of one environment.

I'm disenchanting my numeron deck once they hit MD. It's Numeron 2.0 on crack.

It's probably for the best if tenpai doesn't dominate top cuts. Horrendous mirror and overall frustrating to play against. It's one of those decks that will just always win a set percentage of it's games similar to floo, or least that's how it feels in testing. Maybe just me tho.

God if people were hyping this shit up for weeks and then this deck is terrible (which it is). It'll be so funny. I feel so bad for the people who spent like $100+ on their dragion xd

I have Tenpai in my arsenal. Sometimes I just want something a bit different than my other decks. At least it makes the battle phase important again. Should be interesting once the next wave of support drops.
