I love the scene when Vader is choking the Admiral through the screen, and his monologue with orders directed at, at first, CAPTAIN Piett, and as Admiral Ozzel lets out his final breath, Vader says: "You are in command now, ADMIRAL Piett!" This is also referenced later in the movie when The Falcon goes "invisible" by latching onto a Star Destroyer, and Vader tells Piett: "Don't fail me again.. Admiral." as a reminder on how and why he was elevated to the rank of Admiral ..

BTW. I would personally classify Star Wars as "Space Fantasy" . Star Trek is actual Science-Fiction because it's assuming most of the time there's no magic, everything that happens is based in some kind of science, just in the far future where we have more technology.
@Stogie2112Ай бұрын
Space Fantasy, Space Opera, it's all good. It's supposed to be enjoyed - not analyzed. It's definitely not "hard" science fiction, where the story is based on plausible technology and people and events.

In this episode we get the "Introduction to Jedi Philosophy". We learn how the Force works and how a Jedi should control his emotions. The Jedi Order is somewhat like a Buddhist school, where priests learn to renounce their selfish desires and emotions, as they always lead to suffering. Selfishness, impatience, jealousy, fear, anger and hatred are all shunned. Romantic relationships are not allowed, as they can lead to selfish desire and jealousy. A Jedi Knight must be committed to loving "everyone" and not just a select few. My favorite part is when Luke asks Yoda, "Is the Dark Side stronger?" Yoda quickly says, "NO. Quicker, easier, more seductive." Luke: "How do I know the good side from the bad?" Yoda: "You will know when you are calm, at peace, passive. A Jedi uses the Force for knowledge and defense - never for attack."

This is as good of an in-universe reason as any. I think the main behind-the-scenes reason he disappeared was that they wanted to have something dramatic to indicate that this wasn't a normal death. As why he chose to sacrifice himself at all, I can only assume he knew there was no way he was escaping, and he chose to sacrifice himself so that Luke and everyone would leave without him. Also, if he hadn't voluntarily sacrificed himself, he might not have been come back as a ghost.

I have a story related to something said in the movie! I was in the Navy on submarines, and in January 2003 I was on my second submarine, and the end of my contract was coming up and I had already decided not to sign up for another four years. We were doing a fire drill on the nuclear powered fast attack submarine, USS Asheville SSN-758. All submariners must be "qualified in submarines" and also "advanced firefighter". So I was there with my FF gear on, which includes an "annunciator", device that makes it so others can hear you when you are wearing a FF mask. It also broadcasts the sound of your breathing if it it is heavy enough, so you can sound like Darth Vader. Since I was about the get out of the Navy, I made darth vader sounds, and then I said, "Luke, *I* am your father!" in a Darth Vader voice! And someone said "shut up [my last name]". I chuckled, but softly enough that the annunciator would not pick it up. I then said "search your feelings, luke! You know it to be true! Join me, and we will rule the galaxy as father and son!" lmao. Normally, I would probably get Captain's Mast for behaving that way, meaning, appear before the Captain so that he may punish me as he sees fit (in other branches, this would be known as "Article 15"). But, since I was getting out of the Navy, nobody cared. But some thought it was funny lmao. 😂🤣😂

There's a rumour going on for years that he shot the scene where he fells from Cloud City after the battle with Darth Vader (where he lost his hand) after staying up all the previous night, while his wife was giving birth. However, Mark himself set things straight, stating that he was originally given the day off for the birth of his son, but was called nine hours after delivery to come in for one shot. It was for a scene in the Battle of Hoth, where he was in front of a green screen firing up at an AT-AT and then had to dive headfirst in to some fake snow. During that shot he sprained his thumb, delaying filming of the lightsaber duel that was scheduled for the same week.

A city planet like one of the planets in one of the prequels ., Ice planet, water, planet, jungle planet, or swamp marsh planet. I’m sure there’s more but this is all I can think of at the time. Some of these planets, you will not experience until the sequels or prequels . Besides those, there are a lot of other Star Wars movies that you might enjoy or programs that have several seasons. One of my favorites is the Mandalorian. Or Ashoka. So the Obi-Wan series there’s a bunch more series on there that I’m just not familiar with including one on how they film some of the Star Wars stuff early on entitled light and magic

Star Wars has always been serious. Not for children really. Not very "realistic" is what i think you mean though. With each film the conflict becomes increasingly more internal and enotionally complex. In Empire Luke's flaws are exposed and in ROTJ he must show he's mastered them to succeed which is brilliant writing. However in ROTJ ewoks are silly lol.

I liked most of the Fast and the Furious movies. The series changed from being about racing to being action movies. Bringing in Jonathan Statham and Dwayne Johnson brought a breath of fresh air as well.

@user-im2ex9zw6j agreed. I tell folks, the OG trilogy, Rogue One and Andor. I got super jaded when the prequels came out and I lost my faith completely at the sequel trilogy. Some of the animated stuff was OK I guess but it's not for me.

A few things you'll notice as you watch the movies, is how the concept and construction of R2 changes. The prequels have him doing things he should have been able to do in the originals. I don't recall Lucas or anyone saying the movies were for kids.

Daniel & Lucy, do you know of the Star Wars cameo in "Raiders of The Lost Ark"? When Indiana Jones and his friend Sallah are first opening the Ark, we can see hieroglyphics on the column behind Indiana. Behind him and to his right. Among the hieroglyphics are the images of R2D2 and C3PO. You have to look quick, though! We only see it for a second or two.

As an admitted Old Head, I would say that if you finish the original trilogy and then show Lucy Rogue One, you will have done your due diligence toward the franchise. If she’s not interested in going any further after that, then it won’t be because of a lack of effort or for not giving it a fair chance. She pays really great attention, especially considering her lukewarm interest in the genre, which is all anyone can ask.

I admit that I also like Rogue One, which is an anomaly in more recent Star Wars movies 😅 Depending on the interest of people here on KZbin , we shall see how much more we will dvelve in this franchise. But Rogue One I Will show her for sure

As to why the body disappeared.. it is never explained. I think it is based on the fact that energy and matter are two sides to the same thing on the quantum level. I think the idea is that the sum total of the energy trapped in the mass of the body got transformed into energy, making them a lot stronger. Look at the amount of energy you get when matter and anti-matter collides and transforms into pure energy. The amount of energy you get from matter totally transforming into energy is stupendeous. I think parts of the spiritual community have been enamored with this ever since Einstein formulated E=mc² and that this idea found its way into Star Wars.

The "monkey", Chewbacca, is actually based off a dog. George Lucas had an Alaskan Malamute and that's where Chewey's design comes from .... so I've heard. Although I don't see much resemblance to that breed. Chewbacca looks closer to a Briard (dog breed) like the dog in the sitcom "Married with Children".

Fun fact, Leia insulting Han about being a stupid dirty and ugly peasant essentially (Nerfs are like sheep that you can look after and breed to make food in an Age of Empires style SW video game: Galactic Battlegrounds. It's only while playing this game that I understood the meaning of the insults), is a direct call back to her used to being royalty... Royalty that she's not anymore thanks to the Empire destroying Alderaan. What you've got to understand with the Empire is that their weapons are more designed to terrorize than being really effective. Real tanks would of course be much better.

George Lucas wrote this epic screenplay and realized it could not fit into one movie, so he began to break it apart into different movies. So he took the middle part which became episodes 4, 5 and 6. Many years later he made the prequels that led into the original movie. Once Lucas sold the rights to Disney was when it began to go a little crazy.

The organization of the movies is easy. There are three trilogies: prequel, original and sequel. There are also two movies between the prequel and original trilogies. She is correct. The three trilogies let the entire conflict play out. Aside from sideways stories which explore aspects of the universe, adding perspective on the trilogies, there is no further theme to play out before you begin repeating yourself.

That was really delightful. For a scifi hating wife, you really understood everything that was happening and had a lot of smart things to say - I loved that you noticed that the Imperial Walker was not a good design for a tank. Luke understood R2 when they were in the X-wing because R2 was texting him on the little screen Luke kept looking at. The changes made from the original are that the added lots of windows in the cloud city, which makes sense, but it ruined the claustrophobic atmosphere that contributed to the sense of hopelessness. Another was they cut up the final action sequence by having pointless cutaways to Vader geting on his shuttle and heading back to his ship. The snow monster was barely shown in the original, which made it scarier. But overall, this is the least mutilated of the trilogy. I almost forgot - in the original when the monster spit out R2, Luke said "It's a good think you don't taste very good" - it's incomprehensible why they changed that line. Finally, the color editing was messed with and shifted everything red, which reduced the coldness of the city - it was more blue and yellow in the original. Return of the Jedi has a horrible change at the end. Hint: "NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!"
