My advice. Use the certificate and apply to a tech school. I just applied for my BS in Cloud Computing. It transfers in as 12 credits, and if you have it, they won't need your transcripts. The IT certification just basically gives you knowledge and an introduction into the tech world. Use it to advance in the tech industry.

*** REAL TALK NOT TO OFFEND *** Dude, I am African American trust me you need to update your resume. Whenever you can't get a job speaking to minorities it's 1) Your name 2) YOur resume getting past the tracking system 3) You lack networking with people who work for the company 4)People who had a better resume and more experience than you. I am about to do the program and I went back to school to get my associates than go for a bachelor's to get into Computers. I wish more blacks would go for Tech, Science, Health, or International Businesses more because we usually go for Social Worker/Teacher/Business and other B.S> for degrees. One thing I admire about Asians is you know you are in a white world so you guys usually give your kids first name a European name and last names your heritage. My group African- Americans haven't got this concept to go for names that appeal to the dominant class that controls the nation. Even African names are more appealing than some, not all Africa American names we get too unique and it draws easy what you are on appreciation which could lead to secret discrimination for work. African-Americans, my group please use White names like Asians we need jobs too.

Juniorrr taking this course and receiving the certification is proof that you are comfortable being hands on with information technology within the Google platform. Acquiring certifications like this one develop technological literacy and set you apart from your peers. Gaining certification also allows you to have an active speaking point in your resume. In interview, feel free to share your experience coursing through the certification and how the exposure would prepare for the job in focus. Highlight Tech & Customer Service on your resume at the top under Skills.

I had this course recommended to me a week ago, so I searched for entry level positions to get an idea if it would be of any benefit. Almost every posting required a bachelor's degree, several certifications, and programming skills. The small handful of jobs I saw not requiring any of that still required a year or 2 of experience with IT customer service. They were all call center jobs being posted by temp staffing agencies too. I don't think this will do much finding an IT job worth having.

I wonder the same about these certificates. From my understanding, these certs were intended for people who already have post secondary education and were meant as an additional cert for specialized training that employers required from new employees. So it would be nice if we could see how well these certs help people find employment without a prior educational background, especially since alot of people view them as a way to enter the industry

Why not just get the A+ for entry level IT it still is the most sought after. Before you go for a cert look at what you want to gain from it. If it is a job look at how often it shows up on the job boards. If it is just knowledge pick anything that pikes your interest. BTW NO IT CERT IS NEEDED TO GET AN ENTRY LEVEL IT JOB, just sell that you love tech in your resume and are more comfortable with it then the average user.

I make a comfortable salary of $90k in law enforcement but I’m interested in learning basic computer skills and maybe get into cyber crimes but it seems like there’s a big discrepancy in salary ranges. Big difference in public vs private sector is that y’all make more (way more) money than public sector but nobody likes to talk about their salary. Maybe it depends on what kind of position you're applying for? I think the Google certificate is designed to help you get an entry level job, like an internship perhaps, so you can work your way towards higher level positions which normally prefer college degrees. Also I think it is worth mentioning that the Google certificate is fairly new and not much is known about whether it's valuable in comparison to an A+ or MS certificate. So it may not be the fault of the program itself, but rather the timeliness of it.
@awesomeferret
@awesomeferret 4 жыл бұрын
maybe, maybe not. Internships are normally annoyingly reserved for college students, and often aren't even paid (don't know how that's still legal). Anything is better than an A+ cert though.

In this job market, you should have an entry level position already. The Google IT certificate does not sound like it helped you at all. The District has the most IT positions in the entire USA. I suggest that you get your A+, Network +, Linux +, Security +, Server + (if possible, this one is hard to find) and ITIL V.3 Foundation and at least an MCSA in Microsoft certifications.
@DerrickWeil
@DerrickWeil 4 жыл бұрын
I would chose the A+ or Net+ first and then a SEC+ , Linux is big is you want to move in the system admin/security route after you have some experience in a entry lv role that you would get from a A+ or Net+. ITIL is for infrastructure, Project managers and IT managers. MCSA has a few different certs but mostly systems admin.

I went to college for M.E for two years then quit and started working in Amazon warehouse and I got to see engineers working in the field. I do not like what M.E do but I saw IT guys. I asked both of them and IT is what I want to do. So I’m going for it now.

@QuestForGood
@QuestForGood Жыл бұрын
@@aroobatariq9123 The chance of finding a job after just completing a google certification is very low. I doubt he found a job or even started the program, but hear this, you need to learn/practice outside of the program. These programs are an introductory and will not teach everything you need to learn in order to be ready for a job. Hiring manager are probably not just gonna invite someone who got a google certification, as they will find people with a specific degree in that field, or someone who has more relevant work experience prior to applying with the certification.

I just got my google IT certificate a few weeks ago. I used to maintain printers/scanners at a job site. Had to install printers and work with IP addresses often. At work, I'd see laptops that didn't print due to bad images or ran too slow because of full hard drives. Saw printers that wouldn't print because the IP address of the printer didn't match the ip address of the wall socket. I don't think the technology exists in the google IT course to expose the student to diagnosing a virtual dead or poorly operating laptop.
