A year ago, I did this cert along with my A+, and honestly, I had way more fun and learned a lot more from the Google IT cert. With the A+, I felt I spent more time cramming useless legacy BS than gaining any sort of practical skills. The hands-on labs in both Windows and Linux are a brilliant addition. I've said it before, and I'll say it again. If this cert had a proctored final exam, it would be the best beginner cert. If they added the more practical aspects of A+ then no one could touch it as an entry-level cert.

TOTALLY agree - I have Google IT support and CompTIA A+ and studied for each of them in unison. The Google cert helped me pass the A+ cert, just because it filled in learning gaps with the A+ cert, in my opinion, especially the networking and binary math sections. Oh, and BTW, I did get the 1st module for free via finical aid, however, you have to fill out a separate finical aid request for each & every module (just a heads up), do that in advance (if possible) if you apply for finical aid.

@@doomtrooper24 You can do it in a month or so if you power through it. I thought the ENTIRE cert was pretty good. There are 5 parts that make up the Support Professional cert, the one in this video is just part one. But overall I enjoyed the command line exercises and the virtual machine tests. There is a lot of overlap with both sections of the A+ so I would do them next to each other. Coursera charges around 50 dollars a month - so if you knock it out in 30 days it isn't very costly to be able to put the word Google on your resume.

@@uunz4435 I did complete the whole thing. I went through it within the trial period. This was due to me finding out that it would let me get admitted into WGU as I had no prior college credits or certifications. The material was easy to breeze through due to having a lot of time sunk into learning about this stuff over the years. @@Ze_Moose This certificate will immediately qualify you for remote help desk positions. Which were paying $17-$20 an hour (I got an offer for penzoil last year soon after getting the cert) I was already working for Kawasaki though so my pay got a raise there. If you are already working for a company like that, having this cert will qualify you to work as a generalist for their IT department, which should be a decent jump in pay if you communicate with management about your desire to work in IT. You may also be able to contact a local business that has an IT department such as a data company. Many companies who are short on technically inclined employees may want to work with you if you show initiative and capability to be trained. If you are in college or enrolled in other education programs you may be eligible for an apprenticeship or internship style employment/training program.

The courses actually provide a lot of value for someone who wants to make that transition from hobbyist to professional. Sure, you can race through the courses, but I would highly recommend to actually take your time & learn from it; very inexpensive too (something like $40 a month). There is a trade off though, it is at its core, very foundational. There's a lot of specifics that you'll need to do your own research on / etc. There's not a huge emphasis on the labs- maybe a handful throughout all of it. Personally, I feel labs are KEY- so definitely look into branching some of your own projects from the material learned.. Invest time into running VMs/etc while learning steps in whatever OS they're teaching.

Hi Josh, thanks so much for these wonderful info. I am in the process of starting my journey into IT. I am totally new and have so much passion for IT. These days, i have been doing a lot of research on how to kick-start. Two things comes to mind: either to do the certs first then try getting a job and then later on do a degree or do the certs simultaneously with a degree. Please what would be your advise? Secondly, in your other video, you shared some strategies on how to obtain a BS degree for 6 months. Please will this degree be acceptable for a Masters program in a different university apart from WGU? Thanks so much bro.
@JoshMadakor
@JoshMadakor 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Idrisou, Technically, you can start working well before a degree has been completed, so if you want to start working as soon as possible, I would recommend just getting a cert or two, building out your resume, and start applying for jobs--this will get you working much faster. Once you've started working, you can take your time and start working on the degree. Alternatively, if you started a degree program at WGU, got a couple certs a few months in, nothing is stopping you from just starting to apply for jobs at that point. Just do what is most comfortable for you imo :) As far as the WGU BS being accepted at other colleges, it really depends on the college. WGU has a page that lists out graduate programs that have accepted WGU credits here, you can check that out: www.wgu.edu/alumni/career-support/education-and-professional-paths.html Hope this helps! and good luck! Thanks for commenting :)

Would you recommend this Cert for getting into Cybersecurity? Out of the other Certs Google is offering this one seems like the best. They also have Project Management, UX Design, Data Analytics, and Digital Marketing.
@JoshMadakor
@JoshMadakor 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Eric! I would not only recommend this for people interested in Cyber, but anyone interested in tech in general. It has a really low barrier to entry and is much lighter than even CompTIA A+, since it's relatively inexpensive, has built-in study-material, and the actual exam is not proctored. After doing this, generally people will have a better idea of IT and can choose whether or not they want to progress. That's just how I see it :)

So I completed the 1st certification from Google in 2 days. but it showed that there were still 4 more courses. 1st is Technical Support Certification, 2nd is networking, 3rd is OS's and becoming a power user, 4th is System admin & IT infrastructure, and 5th is IT Security. I thought you had to complete all the courses to get the actual cert? They also said that they teamed up with CompTIA to offer cert holders a discount (20%) on the CompTIA A+ cert after completing all their courses. Just Subbed, Great video and i'm going to check out some of your other content since I'm trying to make a career change for myself.

Hello Josh. Google IT Support Professional Certificate, do I still need to take N+ and A+? Cause, I don't know if you remember, You suggested a path for me to follow since I wanted to go into penetration testing. You said, S+ then eJPT...So, do I need to take the N+?
@JoshMadakor
@JoshMadakor 2 жыл бұрын
Hey! you don't _NEED_ to get it, but I would recommend studying some of the curriculum. You should have a strong grasp on IP addressing in general and perhaps some basic knowledge of routing and switching. The more you know the better. But no, you don't need to hold the actual cert if you're getting sec+ and eJPT already, just networking knowledge is enough.

Was wondering if this was worth it bc the WGU Counselor I spoke to told me that I either had to have the Google cert or CompTIA A+ as a prerequisite to get into an IT program. Hey! I wouldn't bother getting CompTIA A+ if you don't have to. Not sure if your curriculum is going to require it after getting the Google cert, but both A+ and the Google Pro cert kind of fulfil the same area (overlap), so I wouldn't spend the time/money on it if you don't have to. Hope this helps :P. Thanks for watching!

I'm not sure about the curriculum of those, but they are probably legit since it's good. The other question is how long they might take. Having PM skills of any kind is only going to help you, but I'm not sure of the opportunity cost vs studying something directly related to security. That being said, whenever I have interest in a credential, I usually end up getting it, haha. GL if that's what you decide to do, I'm sure it will help one way or another!
