I never understood how THE MEDIA got blamed for the East vs West rivalry. If the RAPPERS didn’t start that garbage then the media wouldn’t be able to create a coastal beef. Speaking on The Source not every single east coast rapper got five mics just because. I don’t really know what a lot of the west coast rappers got rated back in those times but I know OutKast got disrespected in their debut album’s review for in The Source. Something not appealing to your ears is different than just blatantly being disrespectful. I’m sure some west coast reviews were the same too. People from all over got exposure in that magazine. Check the Fat Tape section and they were fair to all regions in that regard. Too bad you couldn’t listen to all of them at the click of a mouse in those days. Tim Dog’s Compton record kicked off that whole thing. Rodney O and Joe Cooley made an ENTIRE ALBUM called F New York and the media is to blame for all the madness. Big L was taking shots at the west on his first album. Roxanne Shante. Das Efx. Jay-Z. Q-Tip. LL Cool J. Onyx. Scientifik. CNN. This is just the stuff I heard. If you comb through some other east coast albums you might find more. ‘95 Source Awards there was just far too much macho EAST COAST posturing for me. Snoop got up there and said what he said then there was the NY NY video. Despite what MC New York aka 2Pac said, Ice Cube was pushing back on the east in ‘95 with West Up!! and Westside Slaughterhouse. Ice Cube was explaining the whole East vs West thing in the May 1996 issue of The Source. Pac thought he started everything talking about Cube was trying to ride his wave since Hit Em Up was out then Cube made Bow Down because of that. In that same issue I just mentioned guess what was in Fat Tape? All The Critics In New York. There’s about a 25 minute video online of west coast rappers dissing the east. It was all real. I just really hate that it took Biggie’s death in LA for people to be like this is crazy we need to stop the madness. It’s gotten out of hand.

I went to the army in 94....I was in basic training with a bunch of East Coast hip hop people... They thought our music sucked and made fun of gangs and lowriders.. they wore big ass ski jackets and didn't even ride gangster cars..regals , Cutlass, monte Carlos... They were lame ass hell . I'm coming from a place were they pop the doors open on a astro van and bust with a bunch of A-Ks or mac-10s....I go to basic training and talk to street people from New York and they talked about razor blades in their mouth... I was laughing my ass off... They walk around on foot with big ass ski jackets on listening to busta rymes with a razor blade in their mouths...lol. Now they bloods?? Lol

The funk was based off James brown sound on tha 1 boots Collins was in browns band and took the 1 to George Clinton when he joined his band.The hip hop break beat and rap was based off James browns music.

The Artifacts dissed the west coast on their first album. CL Smooth said "If you ain't from NY you're soft" on The Main Ingredient album. I wonder who that was directed towards.
