The info in this video is flawed and missing several pieces to the puzzle. It totally missed the Ice CUbe/Jeru the Damaja angle which happened almost a year before the 2pac incident. It also missed the Rodney O and Joe Cooley angle. It gave more credit to Tim Dog, as the west coast saw that diss as more comedy than anything. Quik and MC Eiht were the ones who actually fired back before Snoop and Dre, but they did it more on a city level than on a coast level. I understand you having to leave certain street elements of the Pac and Big situation but even that was very fragmented and downplayed the Dogg Pound/Mobb Deep angle when the Dogg Pound trailer got shot at filming the, "New York, New York" video which is really what got Snoop and them into the beef. It made Puffy look like a Saint when he was the one who deliberately released, "Who Shot Ya" after Pac got shot, so he could capitalize off the situation and further submerging Big into the drama. Instead of trying to throw a shot at us elders, you should reach out to us for more accurate info and tighten up your game. Plus, no one looked at New York as lacking style. To be fair this is the only person in the world I’ve ever heard give Too Short credit for creating “gangster rap” and west coast music lol. If anything I’ve heard Too Short being credited for influencing early Southern rap and obviously the Bay. Everyone from Geto Boyz, Ugk and Goodie Mob credited Too Short w/ influencing their sound. Early Southern hiphop was slow and laid back. Ice T has always been viewed as the father of West Coast rap and “gangster rap” as a genre. He was far more aggressive and political aka “Cop Killa!!!”

All this culture an culture. My grandmother would play these tapes of random blues artists that didn't really pop off back in the 1950s. Blues and country singers would have verbal solos that didn't include singing the track. (Basically rapping on a beat). (Example: Louis jordan - "today you gotta have a beat" he grew in the mid south/memphis area in a small town called Brinkley Arkansas). Black New Yorkers know for a fact that they did not originate in the try state area. So the whole culture thing is BS considering that 90% of blacks in New York were asylum seekers from the south. New york rap was influenced by blues/jazz/classical/disco & west coast rap was influenced by blues/funk/disco. Hip hop definitely was founded in New York but takes alot of characteristics from southern musicians primarily in the Memphis metro and the new Orleans jazz era. Point is, you cant hate on and whole different area because they took something and made it better. That's the cycle of music. You dont see Memphis bitching about everybody using there style, they love it. (No It didn't come from zaytoven or Atlanta. I heard zaytovens old beats, it is clear that he had to adapt to a southern bounce. His tracts with jt the bigga figga is nothing like today)
